I think after playing Scholar.(Bear in Mind I haven't moved from 70 on them yet) that this way is alot better. Is it less engaging yeah most definitely, however it like that they made micromanagement of the heals and fairie an actual thing. if they could do that with the healing aspect then I rather hope that they will find a way to do the same with the damaging aspect eventually I'm looking at it from the perspective that once you start where you're at then things can only improve from that point. thus bringing them to a baseline point in order to work from the ground up makes a bit of sense. Actual healing should be about micromanagement, memorization, and thinking not what you're going to do at THIS point but rather being prepared 30 seconds from this point.
While I hope in the future that they find a way to make damage just as much fun as they did the actual healing aspect, I can appreciate what it took to make said changes in the face of inevitable griefing and complaining that they were sure to receive for doing it in such a manner. And to all the people pretending that white mage losing Aero 3 was a huge loss it really wasn't considering the change to Holy to eliminate the diminishing returns Just as the people pretending that 1-50 in leveling wasn't the same old thing in previous expansions. Would it be nice for a few more damage buttons sure it would be but NOT at the cost of boring healing management and I think that's what people are forgetting we're healers first and damage dealers second.
On a personal note Imy own suggestion to make the DPS interesting is have it do something aside from just damage in the first place maybe have it pop a low potency heal when the timer is done or slow on the AoE for an AST and maybe a dull for the SCHs AoE to lower the damage the enemy puts off for a few precious seconds just as Holy Adds Stun then each one would have something to bring to the table.
This. Been a SCH main since HW and this is terribly clunky. I feel like my Aetherstacks are unnecessary? I basically only use them for the occasional indom, and that one panic lustrate. Spamming the one DPS button the whole time because I have nothing better to do is downright boring. The whole thing just feels unpleasant to play, which is a shame, really.
I feel like adding Energy Drain back and letting us cast Aertherflow out of combat would fix most of the current SCH problems. I could nitpick a lot of other things, but those are the most glaring issues.
This, that and fixing some of the other AI issues that the faerie has would put us in a decent, balanced spot. We don't need huge buffs. What wee need is just some basic quality of life changes and part of our kit back. That's it.
It's less that it was a mistake I feel and more that SE didn't like the complexity it had and considered it hard to balance because of it. Their idea this expansion seems to be to make everything the same for the sake of balance, at least in terms of healers and from what I've heard to a lesser extent tanks. The sad thing is that I can almost guarantee we're going to be having balanace issues by 5.5 because they fundamentally don't seem to understand how healers work anymore. I'd stake money on it.
We really need community advocates at the table when classes are being designed/redesigned. A lot of good ideas for balance have popped up on this very forum that kept the complexity of the jobs while also making each a viable choice, but most of them just got ignored if they were even seen at all.
We must undo the 8th umbral healer calamity.
Become what you must
Warrior of white mage.
No, thank you. Only an Aetherflow dump in some form (Energy Drain or other).
Returning to the mediocre DPS button bloat we had before will only make it harder to improve in the future.
