What does sch do now with no dps options

Honestly, I think SCH is going to be on the sidelines this round. WHM DPS is too good and AST buffs are overpowered.

But on the plus side, you can level SMN while SE has to deal with the healer firestorm post launch, then switch over when they get a clue?

Since you play SCH yourself, I do not have to ask that first. But saying that the changes are not as bad as people say is wrong. Because in case of OP question, SCH's changes are as bad as people say and see. The skillcap of SCH is now as equal as all other healers because even the pet management is gone. Therefore all what is about SCH, the skillcap, being a hybrid healer with a lot of DPS toolkit and emergency shield healing while managing a healing pet, there is only 1 thing left. The shield healing. Nothing more.
So as a SCH player, no matter which content you play, mediocore to high end, or even low, even leveling, the whole job has changed.

I don't even know why they did this to the healers, all I know is that I and a lot of other healers, and I read alot, even on Twitter which is pretty bubbly and lovey dovey towards Yoshida and the devs, that people are confused, scared and angry about the changes. All healers because WHM didn't get anything that they wished for. That is btw another proof that the SE devs do not know anything about what the community wants and that they do not really play the healer jobs to the fullest. Maybe just a bit testing in DGs if things work but they do not really play them.

No, SCH is going to be top-pick for healers for yet another expansion. Even though their DPS kit has suffered, their healing kit is simply too good. Shields, regens, plenty of raid utility, oGCDs out the ass, a pet...

I'm not saying SCH has been changed for the better, but it's crazy to me that people think they will be passed up in favor of an AST or WHM. They might even be able to solo-heal content alongside jobs that have decent self-heals and shields. In their current state (future buffs notwithstanding), there is literally no reason to replace a SCH with an AST or - god forbid - a WHM.

This part I doubt. While it definitely looks like they drained a bunch of optimization nuance and fun out of Scholar, there are a few things that have always, always kept it the best healer in the game. They (frustratingly, from a constantly-benched WHM perspective) appear to have buffed the crap out of one of them (the strong low cooldown off-GCDs), and only sort of nerfed the fairy.

Embrace is and has always been the elephant in the room. If it's too weak to make a difference, Scholar is -way- behind the other two. If it's not, Scholar has an enormous, unchallengeable, unignorable efficiency advantage. Without an answer to it, the other healers lose a lot of uptime that Scholar never has to pay for.

It's bewildering that Yoshi-P is on record saying something like "WHM ends up healing a lot so SCH can keep doing damage". No, it's the other way around. You want the Scholar healing because WHM's damage spam is more of a gain for the party. And they do this. Scholars at the high end will out-damage and out-heal a WHM in current encounters, because mobility + oGCDs + Embrace means the Scholar never has to stop doing both at the same time. While damage rotations are undeniably simpler, this higher level internal kit synergy difference between the healers has, ironically, not shifted even with all of these nerfs.

Hmm, It seems like with WHM have the strongest DPS skills and SCH losing DPS and just keeping Chain that WHM would nose ahead in that fight. More so when paired with an AST. But then again I didn't factor the oGCDs giving SCH the wiggle room to cast DPS.

just a copy paste from another thread but tldr: This is where they want SCH DPS to be. Any changes made cannot increase their dps/rdps, without upsetting the balance they are trying to achieve. Changes need to be made to increase the "fun" of the class, but can't affect their potential dps by much.

The thing with the healer changes isn't really about the need for balance. Its the result of this balance they've achieved thats caused issues.

Players want:
1) Healers that can make an impact doing damage, but damage isn't 100% their only focus. They want stuff that keeps from checking out while healing. They want good use of downtime and opportunity to weave useful OGCD abilities.
2) They want the healers to all be nearly as desirable as one another for raiding.

SE has made the 2nd one possible at the cost of the 1st.

The DPS rankings is (and should be):

PDPS: WHM>>SCH>AST.
RDPS: AST>SCH>>WHM.

The problem is that they've cut all the more engaging DPS skills to compensate for button bloat. Namely SCH. In order for SCH to get a more "complex" rotation back they would have to suffer net DPS losses to their other skills to bring in this new skill and this would set the skill ceiling higher again, making the class less desirable to newer players. Yoshi-P wants to try and keep it inclusive. SE cannot buff SCH's DPS kit without causing WHM and AST to become secondary. They will need to do multiple adjustments to keep it fair for new players, complex enough for old players and within the same DPS parameters as it already is.

[Personally, I think a neat role skill would have been to give each healer a GCD AOE bravery on a short timer of like 30 seconds, just to give them one more thing to manage, and something else to optimize during downtime, but SE is fickle with what they consider to be button bloat.]

WHM is bringing their new Afflatus lilly mechanic allowing them to actually gain DPS with their use (if properly weaving 3 OGCD abilities between the four casts), SCH is bringing a small bit of RDPs from chain strat and more reliable Broil Spam via fairy upgrades and lots of healing only aetherflow stacks (boo), AST is bringing low personal DPS but still packing cards (at a lower but more consistent RDPS, their personal DPS being so close to SCH, but with less uptime lets their RDPS + PDPS closely compare to SCH's 5.0 kit (ideally.)
