"The meta" is for every job to use their given toolkit as efficiently as possible within the context of the content. DPS demands on healers are a consequence of that meta.
You still optimize for DPS with all the resources/time not required for healing, because that's still the most efficient, because healing is still only as useful as it is required - healing has no intrinsic value. That hasn't changed. You only pull lower numbers while optimizing your DPS. It's not a meta-change, it's a nerf and an inconsequential one.
It's completely irrelevant how much DPS you end up pulling. Any DPS is better than overhealing and unused resources and that's the only alternative. Big whoop.
The healer dps required in raid is not a fixed number, it depends on the healer dps kit and ability. We'll end up doing less dps, sure, but we'll still do dps.
The nerf to bane was stupid and only impactful in dungeons, which will be a pain and many of us will try leveling as SMN or every dungeon will be sastasha in trash pulls: set the fairy, dot, bane, SF, afk while Eos does everything because using a single target skill in a 5+ pull can be done even while alt-tabbed.
Because tanks are already starting to find ways around it. They also got several abilities that more than make up for the slight loss they'll incur for being forced into Fending accessories. The devs can nerf things however they fancy, until fights actually demand stronger mitigation and healing, people will focus on damage above everything else.
The concern as I see it is that SCH DPS was never a problem, so the nerfs are unwarranted. The problem as I saw it was that Lily was so powerful, a SCH would literally never have to leave Cleric except for the occasional lustrate and pre-pull adlo. And in the worst cases, could go AFK completely in a dungeon and just follow the tank.
SCH's truly did need to start having to be more attentive towards the HP gauges of their comrades, but they didn't need to gut their DPS potential to do so. I think the end result won't be as bad as some envision it, and adjustments will be made in the future, but as of now I am scratching my head. It's almost like the devs spite the SCH job.
I believe it is no surprise that the devs are very adverse to speed runs in dungeons.
Most aoes are pretty much nerfed throughout all the roles, but I agree that Scholar really got hit bad.
This doesn't actually make us more attentive. In fact, it makes us less because Cleric Stance is gone.
As always, what do we do if we suddenly need to heal? Throw a lustrate, keep DPSing. And if the DPS took damage instead? Indomitability, keep DPSing. And now we don't even have to stance dance, so gameplay is like it was back in ARR when lustrate wasn't effected by Cleric. The only change to our gameplay with healing in dungeons, where AoE matters, is that we have even less to do, increasing the monotony and lack of thought needed to play the class. This is disappointing.
They didn't nerf WHM/AST aoe though. They were actually already better than SCH at AOE in dungeons because things die fast, so it doesn't matter they can't sustain it as long. And if the DPS is actually good, SCH dots don't even have much chance to tick. Really only thing this nerf does is tell SCH they shouldn't do dungeons anymore.
