There is nothing negative about suggesting to try out a server, but that was not the point of the thread.

For some of us, when you are paying roughly 15 bucks for a game monthly, whats another 18 bucks to throw at Square Enix..seems petty to balk over the cost of the transfer. I am sure we have all given Square Enix much more than 18 bucks over the course of the 30 year FF franchise. Just sayin.

I can't give it a strong recommendation for you because you said you are looking for "a more populated server" and I believe we are considered "mid-pop". Leviathan and Malboro are in the same data center so assuming that you are playing during NA active times, there should be people around. There is a definite lull from ~1AM-6AM Pacific with the majority of people being on ~2PM-8PM Pacific. We are not a hardcore raiding server, which seems like a plus for you.
I don't really have experience with other servers so I can't speak to them.

The suggestion to create a new character on any servers you were interested in served 2 purposes.
First, it would confirm that the items you are concerned about are bound to your account. Create a new character, go through the tutorial quest, and check mogmail to see what items are waiting for you. That was the primary reason as that was your stated concern for not creating a new character already.
Second, while you are correct that we've all thrown a lot more than $18 at SE over the years, I've also seen a lot of stories with people who server transferred several times (with associated delays and costs) until they found somewhere they like and I wouldn't want you to be frustrated by transferring only to find you didn't like it. There was an assumption there that you have an account type that allows creation of multiple characters, of course.

I wasn't trying to be curt or dismissive in my earlier response. I had a limited time to write out a response before being offline for 4 days and realize I could have elaborated more.

I'm on Faerie and I've found people here have been overwhelmingly friendly. I assumed it was like that across all the servers, since most people that actually talk in dungeon finder groups have been friendly as well. Faerie is a medium population server, but I've never felt isolated at all. I'm in two good social linkshells and a good FC. Between the three of them, there is almost always some conversation going on. If I goof around in the crowds of Limsa Lominsa or Idyllshire, I can make new friends in minutes. Probably the only thing that would have been troublesome would have been a lack of party finder groups for specific content... but cross-server party finder fixed that! I'd say, give a medium population server a try. Faerie is nice! I think maybe the name attracts extra friendly people. Of course, whatever you decide, the $18 transfer option is on the table.

If you're interested in housing, do consider that as well. Housing is more difficult to acquire on higher population servers. If you aren't focused on roleplay, stay away from Balmung in particular. You won't get a house there and when new housing blocks are released, they'll be snapped up in minutes. Only the lowest population servers will have unowned houses, but houses do open up from time to time, and the more people there are around, they quicker they get snapped up. Then there is the open secret of the black market housing trade where people pay gil to others to release houses for them, with the prices being set by relative demand.

I transferred to Balmung and the difference in players between Leviathan and Balmung is a complete 180 degrees. I don't RP, but it is nice to walk around and see RP happening in the chat window...it makes my play experience more immersive.

I am hearing, people just join FCs to have a room rather than go through the trouble and money to purchase a house. Perhaps housing needs to be reworked to make them more appealing. Also, housing should have an inactivity window and houses/apartments go vacant so that the housing area doesn't look stagnant.

Thanks for the suggestion on Faerie server, I will most likely create a character on there to 1) confirm items are account bound and 2) check out the community

On another note: I could sub for a month and never log in and one could say that money was wasted, just like server transferring to a server you don't end up liking. Ultimately, I see it as supporting the devs, look at the game we've got..money certainly not wasted at all!

People do not get housing because it is hard to find from so many people being here. Also if you see me online I can show you a nice house my friend has.

Thank you! I am hoping with the new expansion (and new housing area) coming out, hopefully housing will be more available on Balmung.

hi :D I'm reporting in from Faerie as well and can say our city's are very, very active with all sorts of people running around. Im also seeing lots of sprouts running around as well (very nice sight). I transferred from Exodus, and am very much enjoying this server much muuuuch more. Also, aside from FC's rooms you can also purchase an apartment as well. Each housing district has an apartment complex that are very nice, have their own teleports/MB/stables menders and all, so they are very much a complete package. also just because you have an apartment or fc room, doesn't limit you to only having that. you can have a FC room, an apartment and a house all at the same time :D

Hi, it is nice to hear housing is still very much available on Faerie server..I have been considering transferring there for this very reason. It seems on Balmung, houses and apartments, even for the new expansion, are already unofficially reserved. I would say that the difference between a Legacy and non-Legacy servers are still very much apparent, which deters sprouts like me. Thank you for posting, it helped greatly!
