The game is such an easy single player experience then you are awkwardly thrust into scenarios with other people without truly knowing what you should be doing. I will say that Hall of Novice helped bridge the gap a little, but I learned so much more finally joining duties and watching people and having them share advice in real time scenarios.
I think the biggest disservice in the game is that you can breeze along and not need to even talk to any other person for days if not months (if you are a father, husband, bread earner like myself who can't play all day) and then you are put in to a party and it changes the whole dynamics. Yet when you get put in a party you are playing with grumpy people who have cleared that scenario 100 times already and expect me to follow suit.
I wish the game had a way of ramping up cooperative play immediately. The idea that we are dependant on each other to survive in Eorzea instead of becoming a burden to each other because it cramps are solo play styles.
To answer the op - yes, there should be someway to train people their roles and it should be more community based and beneficial to each other as we learn and make strides as a family. It is hard to do this when you don't really need another living soul for your first 40-50 levels.
