TERA does. They put a region lock preventing all access from China and the asian region. As a result the game has little to no RMT whatsoever. Yeah yeah I've heard there are allegedly ways around this, but TERA has remained almost entirely RMT free for it's duration because of this blocking asian traffic and any attempts around it as far as we know have been very unsuccessful. The very few RMT that do pop up from time to time are usually dealt with very swiftly. Any of you that think this wouldn't put a dent in them or wouldn't work are mistaken. TERA proves it.
No one is saying that it won't stop RMT, but that RMT itself isn't all from China, which needed to be cleared up. As someone else have said, keeping servers region locked would destroy FCs and statics and that is going to cause an uproar bigger than any RMT would hope to achieve.
You just prove my point. TERA have the block and RMT still exist. There are more far between but they still exist. What about the people that live there that like to play with people outside their country? What about the people that want to play with people from over there?
I know plenty of people that play from Asian regions, hell it makes up at least half of the English population on Tonberry. I believe even some Chinese players play on our version, but I can't say if it's large amount there. SE isn't going to do anything that is going to make them lose money, and blocking regions will make them quite a bit of subscribers I'd assume. Besides that, I'm 99% sure TERA only has IP blocked regions due to licenses in those regions that they weren't able to secure as it is with almost all KR MMORPGs.
I could understand this if it was originally implemented, but people have already made friends, bought houses, and enjoy the server they already play on regardless of the data centre they're on and where they live in real life. This would be completely unfair and actually a really over-excessive solution for something that can be solved in other ways.
Another note is the RMT can already be banned and easily prevented if SE really wanted to. What makes you think they would go to this amount of effort when the RMT's still exist in the first place? They are obviously not that much of a priority.
Look it's not going to work for the simple fact that RMT are not bored internet trolls that give up when new hurdles are put up. This is a job for them, they are going to clock in cause not doing so means they don't get a pay check. Having things like lights, food, water, and a roof over your head are far more powerful motivators than anything SE or you can ever think of to make them stop.
Region locking will only effect the legit players who play on servers outside their region, and at best will buy you 2 weeks without RMT spam before they get all their ducks in a row and come back just as hard as before.
