In your opinion, should the game be free? Or cost less per month?

Can we have Tanaka back? I believe Tanaka had a better vision for FFXIV and that 1.0 only failed because of the forced release of an unfinished game. (I know we can't have Tanaka back though, I think I read he's retired now)

Population is going down! SE creativity down! B2P is prolly the best option now

How do you know this?
I agree that some people in each of those groups are upset, sure.
But, really, there are some people in each of those groups that are very happy with the current state of the game, too.

How are you measuring which is the majority?

Of course, those who are upset and complain are more likely to come to the forums and voice their opinion. It's human nature to not complain if you're having fun. So... counting up all the people complaining on the forums doesn't do much of anything unless you're comparing that to some group of total-players or having-fun players. Have you done that? Or is your opinion useless?

If it was as you described, then no, they wouldn't deserve $15 a month.
But I don't see the game as you've described. And yes, I still think they deserve $15 a month for the fun I'm having. That's why I'm still paying.

I like enough of the content that's come out in the last 7 months.

I think improvements should be made in places that really do need improvements... like housing availability, we'll see what happens after Christmas with that.
I can see why people are upset about the relic, though. The last one started more... story-ish... But I don't really care. I'm on the "screw relic" side of things. I don't have enough time to do all the things I want to do in the game, let alone do relic. So I have to skip it. It does make a pretty glamour, though :D

I'm perfectly content with the game still and have very much enjoyed Heavensward as I've put around 1600 hours into 3.x alone so far. I have found no shortage of things to do or occupy myself with.

Oh yay, another thread for doomsayers to congregate in and pronounce the game dead because they are pissed off that the 3.1 content patch took longer than normal...

To address the question, no, the price should not be reduced. This is really a very big game overall. From a raider's perspective, there is limited content and due to it being a vertical progression game, the raid content has a shelf life. But for anyone with a broader focus than raiding, there is so very much to do here, you could spend hundreds and hundreds of hours without seeing/doing everything you want to.

God, no. I despise F2P games with all my heart. I'll gladly pay my 10-15€ a month to get a fun and engaging experience. The problem, though, is that FFXIV is neither currently. The dungeons were fun. The raids as well. But you can run them only so many times, before they start to feel dull. Guess I'll go with my original plan, to subscribe every 6 months for a single month. That way I don't have to pay ~80€ for 1 month worth of content. The MSQ is still worth it. Along with a few runs of the future dungeons and raids. But I certainly won't run Alexander a whooping 400-600 times. I was fed up after my 10th run.

Too bad, though, since armour/character/world design really excel in this game. I'd happily throw my money at SE, if there only was enough to do with my Catgirl.

Not even FFXI is free.

This game should never be free. When they use that model the dev's efforts go towards what will generate revenue, which would be cash-shop content, rather than gameplay content.

Suggesting this game go F2P is nothing short of a horrible, terrible idea.

Indeed, but you know, the previous relic quests are still there and much easier to complete because the requirements have been eased and the RNG has been improved. If you play behind the patch curve and are content with not being part of the leading group of players, the game offers amazing value. Things like the previous relic upgrade path are doable with far greater ease, in less time now. It's fairly practical to go after the relic upgrade if you want it.

Nyah! Indeed. I think a lot of the dissatisfaction comes from players with a more focused view of the game and it's content, as well as a considerable number of hours played already. But I do think that to an extent, the game is as good as we make it. For players who have a very task oriented style of play and focus mostly on end-game/raiding the problem is that this game, like any can only deliver so much over a finite period of time. So they complete the content, get bored, become dissatisfied and complain. This is not a criticism, it's just the way things appear to me. The answer is to either broaden their horizons and take a more relaxed approach, or possibly play this a bit less, and play something else a bit more until the next patch.

I don't know, it just seems to me that there is a group of players who have exhausted the content and don't know what to do about it, except hang out at the forum and complain bitterly about everything being crap, boring, a grind, or pointless...

Hanging around in the forums playing the jaded and bitter veteran player doesn't seem like it would be very satisfying, and it certainly isn't very helpful to the community. Nor does it help them have more fun.
