Just got wheeling thrust.... Can someone explain the point of it to me?

This whole thing kills me, if you followed this logic you would be fine with it if you got both abilities at 56 instead of one at 56, one at 58? After all the complaining I thought it would be a pain, after playing my DRG to 60 I still don't understand the complaining. It really isn't that big of a deal and it is added (and necessary) complexity to the class.

Complexity for the sake of complexity is never necessary and never fun. It is objectively terrible game design, but we just have to deal with it until the devs realize that. It's a shame. I've given enough feedback already on how to simply fix it. It really is as bad and stupid as it looks.

I beg to differ, I find mastering things fun.

It's complexity for the sake of skill differentiation. I'm no game designer, but I'd consider that good game design. *shrug*.

It's not like it's difficult with practice anyway.

This. If dragoon was much easier it wouldnt be very fun and rewarding. if i were you, id consider yourself lucky that your refresh mechanic isnt anything like Enochian and all you have to worry about is a random positional affecting your potency for one gcd.

Or they could have made it a 100% chance not to move after chaos thrust. Seems like a wasted skill to me.

@OP, I agree it's a waste of a skill and those saying that it's there for the complexity of the job fail to understand there could have been other methods introduced to the class to make it more complex, even though it's not, without wasting an entire skill that has no benefit other than to force you to keep a eye on your hot bar or buffs bar and move two to five steps.

Luckily I don't take DRG seriously, but really they could have done the same thing they did with monk's meditation and Forbidden Chakra and made it one skill while keeping the level 58 one for something new.

Would you rather wheeling thrust have a higher potency and your dps suffer for proccing fang and claw? what exactly is it that you want?

When a BLM casts fire and doesn't proc firestarter are they losing dps? Or are they gaining dps when they do proc it?

If wheeling thrust had a higher potency are they losing dps when they proc fang and claw or are they gaining dps when they do proc wheeling thrust?

Yes, I would be fine if we got them both at 56, because that would mean we'd get something else at 58, that's what people seem to be missing here. I don't care that it makes it more complex, it's not that wheeling thrust is difficult to use, it's that this is the skill we get at 58. We don't get something new and useful, we get the second part of something we got at 56 that just makes what we got at 56 "more complex" not stronger or better.

This whole it's fine cause it adds more complexity argument is basically like saying if MCH got gauss barrel at 54 but all it did was stop your auto attacks and raise your damage by 30%, then at 56 they didn't get any new skill all they got was "gauss charge trait: adds a cast time to all skills while under the effect of gauss barrel" that it's fine cause it's just adding more complexity to the mechanic.

A better comparison would be tgat DRG has a 50% chance to proc WT and nothing else. Which is a terrible comparison either way because firestarter isn't a huge component of BLM's dps (espesically not now with enochian) while DRG is directly tied to using and maintaining BotD (the latter you can't do if you don't proc wheeling thrust). They wanted to add a risk/reward element to situational awareness/planning to all jobs for better dps payoff, otherwise you'd play exactly as you did in 2.0 (which would be pretty damn boring honestly)

And in the end, the same could be said for MCH and BRD; Gauss or minuet was not an steady damage increase until 54-56 for BRD, and 60 for MCH (for a skill gained at 52). All the while that this is their only "3.0" skill they had that directly adds onto their gameplay, and that's not even a huge margin since all it does is give them cast times.
