Concerns Regarding Chocobo Cost

It's not elitism, it's to prevent the inevitable whining that will ensue afterwards. If you let low rank players go anywhere they please, they will do so, then the forum will flood with people complaining that "hard mobs are preventing my r10 character from travelling to places they shouldn't go in the first place". Then of course SE will have to do something about it, and make the game even easier. Why can't you see the bigger picture?

Don't worry I'm sure SE can think of plenty of ways to throw your gil back into the system seconds after earning it.

Does a low ranked player need to walk to Camp Broken Water, Coerthas, or Mor Dhona for ANY reason? No.
Should a low ranked player have to walk to camps to "acquire them" first just like everyone else? Yes.
Does a low ranked player have access to 100 anima just like everyone else? Yes.
Does a low ranked player need a Chocobo to get to Camp Black Brush, Camp Horizon, or even Nanawa Mines? No.

Maybe I will run for office :D

I imagine the high level mobs will knock them off Chocobo and have them for dinner anyway.

You're right they don't "need" chocobos to get around. But then again, neither do we high level players.

People seem to want chocs for two reasons: 1) They're Final Fantasy; and 2) to get to far away places more quickly and without using anima. Those reasons apply just as much to new players as to higher ranked players. New players need to move between all 3 cities, too. The idea is to make the game more enjoyable for everyone, new players and old.

Why? Just because something sucked for us doesn't mean it has to suck for everyone. We want the game to be more enjoyable for new players, so they'll stick around.

I can't think of any benefit to excluding new players from using chocs. And I imagine that lots of new players will really enjoy them. We want new players to have more fun. So that's a good thing. :)

O_O Chocobos being attacked by fiends? Dear Jeebus... Never! That's a horrible idea! Why would you ever want to discourage an exploration of your world? What's the harm in just looking around a place?

Korbei kinda went there too. I approve with ... well, ALL of what he said. Especially the bit about elitism.

However, MY concern about chocobos is simply this.

Let's take a step back and look at FFXI for a moment and let it lead into FFXIV.

Yes, you can rent chocobos after doing a god awful, 4hr quest. (Hint, hint SE. Don't do that again, please)
And yes, after you do that quest you can rent a chocobo from cities, certain outposts and teleport crystals.
Also, you can raise your own chocobo. Which is all fine and dandy until you realize that you can raise it to be slower than the damned rent-a-birds. However, you cannot make it faster than the rental chickens.
Did I mention that it takes about a month to raise?

Dear, SE, if I have to do do an initial quest that takes 4 real life hours to be able to ride a chocobo and then, if I decide/have (the personal ones are really the way to go since every zone does not have a chocobo vendor-person) to raise a chicken of my own.... And that raising process takes a month- Then let the damn bird be faster than the rentals!

Which is also, a rather huge hint to SE. = =;;;

I agree in that the rental chickens really will be more like you rent from city, get to where you need to and then they run off into the distance when you dismount/enough time has elapsed. However, I do not agree that players should be charged 10k for a rental. That's just dumb and it won't stabilize the economy. It'll just make the lower level players annoyed.

The economy will stabilize itself once there is something to spend money on (for those players who have accumulated a stupid amount of it. I am not one of those players lulz).

For example:
I suggested a while ago that SE brings about Mog Houses and Gardens (Only updated and made more awesome). The only other game that I've played with Houses was LOTRO. The difference was that MH's had a better handle on how you can decorate than LOTRO but LOTRO actually had you buy the house and I think they also had a 'rent' thing that took money every 'month'. In any case, things like furnishings and barber shops will eat up money just as well as a 10k/hr chicken.

And buddy, for 10k/hr chicken that bird better be made of gold and have the ability to fly. D=

I feel as if far too many people are stuck on the "Well because I had to do it the 'hard' way so should everyone else" bandwagon of angst, instead of for pushing for the game to be more enjoyable for everyone.

actually you can raise chocos faster than that of the rental chocos in xi, as I did.

However the arguement that lowbies shouldn't be able to explore but High levels can is a bit daft. that means that lowbies shouldnt go to areas with mobs rank 50, makes rank 50 players shouldn't be able to visit places with mobs rank 99 which you have done getting to those hard nodes.

As mentioned just because it was hard for us, doesn't mean it should be that hard. And as the choco's do get attacked they will not be able to explore those high end nodes anyway without some skill.

so basically your just bitter cause you couldn't have a choc when you were rank 15 or 20 and think every new player needs to suffer.gotcha.

It is confirmed that being on a chocobo in FFXIV will not make you immune to mobs. This is partly, I guess, because mounted fights will be made possible.

Also, to answer OP, how about the rental cost of a chocobo to be like 1% of your total gils or .5%, that way, it's a good gil sink for over the top rich people who got rich while playing in the beta we are in so that maybe, eventually new players might catch up. Plus it will make it so that you will always be able to rent a chocobo, unless you have 1gil left...

As for the level at which you should be able to start renting, I think 15 would be a good level to access a quest for it.
