    Concerns Regarding Chocobo Cost

    Hello all,

I have some concerns about the Chocobo system being implemented in 1.19 (or 1.19a if it's late).

In an earlier dev post (it might have even been a Yoshi-P post) we were told that Chocobos will be something that everyone will easily be able to afford, specifically, even players under rank 20. If someone can provide a link to the exact post, that would be greatly appreciated.

    On to my concern:
I feel that making Chocobos "cheap" is not only going be hugely detrimental to the economy (face it, we need gil sinks, now), but it will also take away from the sense of accomplishment for earning a Chocobo, or Chocobo access. If even players under rank 20 can get them (and you can get from rank 1 - 23 in a day, easily) then we have a real problem with "goals" for the Chocobo system in FFXIV.

I propose that perhaps just "gil" is not a solution to this problem. I would prefer that Chocobo rentals have two requirements, let's say, for example... 10,000g for an hour, and also, you must feed the Chocobo (gyashl greens) periodically or before you rent, where the greens are an "untradable" item that you must hunt for and can't simply just be lazy and buy.

This not only removes some gil from the economy at a reasonable rate, but ensures player participation, and also keeps new players where they should be (lower areas) until they are strong enough (and wealthy enough) to venture into new and more dangerous areas.

SE has led me to believe that we're moving away from easymodexiv to a better, brighter future, but when I see posts like what I mentioned, it makes my faith waiver.

    Thoughts?

10,000 gil an hour is allot for someone under rank 20. Rentals should be 500-1000 gil, and when you dismount they run away and leave you stranded. thats all.

I think there is a confusion with what the Dev Team refers to gil sinks and what we think they are for.

I believe any gil sinks introduce in the game are not for draining the current players of their wealth but instead measures set in place to stop new players reaching outrageous amounts of gil like the current playerbase. I agree with the Dev Team in wanting the rental chocobos to be highly accessible to anyone who wants to use them. As for keeping players where they should be, chocobos can be attacked by fiends, so that will keep most of low levels under restrain when exploring with their chocobos.

Rental chocobos are easy to get, but the goal, and your sense of accomplishment comes with personal chocobos

    This.

Also rental chocobo need to be accessible for as low rank as possible. Rental chocobo won't be as convenient as Personal chocobo of course, and the way they said it I think there are many things you can do only with Personal chocobo.

Love the 'easy mode' quip, guess that makes it clear the camp you're in.

Whether or not your characterisation is accurate, I've not seen anything the makes me think SE are going to pander to the elitists in the way you seem to want.

Well when you think about it, with Personal Chocobos you'll most likely be able to call on them from anywhere in the world at anytime, were as with rentals you'll only be able to access to them in city-states, make a trip, lets say out into the middle of nowhere, and if you have to dismount it will run off (and if your strapped for anima, you'll have to make make the long walk home.)

In an interview I read with yoshi, It appears that you'll be able to equip armor onto your personal chocobo and have it fight along side you. (I think rentals are just for quick one-way trips, and when you get off that's it.) =p

I say to hell with the elitism. If lower ranked players want to Chocobo out into the borderlands of The Black Shroud and get stranded in the middle of rank 80 mobs, why stop them?

Sorry pal, but you're not better than the players who haven't started yet, just 'cause you were foolish enough to pick up the game at launch. In fact, I'd say they've got at least one up on you there.

Love how the first mention of anything difficult or having effort being required for something is automatically associated with "elitism" lol
