Why do the Egis appearance look awful and unimpressive

I think you are forgetting to include X and XIII in that. Esper-Terra in FF6, which is semi-summon. Not sure about 8,9 and 12... Can't remember those that much.

Summons first appeared as we know them in FF4. From 4 until 9 they were single use "spells" that popped out, did their thing, then vanished. 7,8, and 9 had some fairly lengthy summon CSs but that was it. 10 introduced somewhat persistent avatars but they replaced your entire party while they were out and a lot of bosses were given abilities specifically to one shot your eidolon. 11 took it a step farther with them being part of the party but they cost constant MP (perp cost) and could only do something other than autoattack once per minute (30 secs after they split blood pacts into two categories). Just like spells in the game, avatar abilities also became obsoleted by higher level abilities so basically they were one ability wonders. The fights to get them were kind of bland as well. Same recolored arena every time (other than a select few) and avatars I always felt should be larger. Why weren't they larger? Because they had to be of a size that they wouldn't look ridiculous following the SMN around and cause lag etc. The devs in 14 separated the full fledged Primals from the summoned versions so they could make the fights as impressive as possible without feeling limited by the fact the model would have to follow a PC around. I prefer the Egis to little shrunk down versions of the Primals themselves.

I agree, I personally don't want them to look like the original primals, but what we have now is just a joke, they look like if they were rushed (and they probably were).

Not really. As I said, they wouldn't use the full sized avatar models from the battles, they'd be shrunk down with a lower polygon count as to not be obtrusive and clipping through everything (Titan would clip thorugh a lot of cave roofs and overhangs lol). They'd use no more system resources than the Egis really, plus the game only every has to load each one once and replicate for each person who has an avatar out. They would have the same affect the egis do currently in that they take up a spot in the maximum number of NPCs/PCs visible at any one time onscreen on the PS3.

What about them seems rushed? I think the Egi models are well done. Just because people disagree with the design doesn't make them bad or rushed. Some people think modern art is garbage, others think it's awesome, either way the artist expressed their vision and they aren't going to back and redo their sculpture because of a few critics. Same here. The graphics artists, and Yoshi, had a vision. We got their vision. It's their art and they aren't going to change it because some players don't share that vision.
