Yoshi-P says WHM was not nerfed, situation similar to "warrior is strong" fiasco

Just to touch on the comparison to DPS DoT being "halved" in DPS - it actually has the same net DPS over the course of 30 seconds. There is no nerf, unless you use it and it clips because a target dies. It arguably becomes more efficient presuming the resource cost doesn't change, since the DoT needs to be refreshed half as much (and DoT abilities on DPS typically have higher TP costs than straight damage abilities).

Same deal with Medica II. Now we can cast more Medica/Cure III. It's not all front-loaded, but it just requires slight adjustments now.

I do agree that there's been a lot of knee-jerk reactions from the Devs/Yoshi-P about some of the "controversial" topics in this patch, though.

No it wasn't, you guys just want to interpret it that way because you don't like the nerf to begin with. Please don't act like martyrs because Yoshi wants a healing class to play like...a healing class. Holy was clearly not as niche as anybody thought it would be when in the context of 4 man dungeons and was clearly stealing BLM's thunder.


But don't worry, it still has an AOE stun, decent potency, and is still useless for top end content anyway which is where we should be focusing our attention...ie the Medica II nerf.

Didn't Yoshi also say something about housing being affordable?

That is not true, any time you are spending cast time on Thunder instead of Ruin is an increase in dps.

That extra 2s you save every 30s on casting a half potency, longer duration thunder would not be made up for by the extra ruin cast you are able to do.


Moreover, as far as Medica II goes, it forces WHM to spend MORE MANA to quickly top off party members. That or they will not use Medica II at all, which is just a complete failure as far as class design goes. WHM doesn't need to be any simpler than it already is.

Honestly, I'm perfectly fine with all the pure-WHM changes. And yes, I know how to WHM.

Medica II has less "upfront" healing than Medica, and costs more mana, so even pre-patch you should be casting Medica II then spamming Medica to AoE heal...which is not something I actually saw very often. The change makes AoE healing more mana efficient, and maybe even more healing efficient since Medica II overhealed a lot. It will also be less of an aggro-grab, which is a major WHM issue

Holy needed a nerf. Stop kidding yourselves. A Healer having one of the best AoE attacks, just on potency alone, AND has a long-duration AoE stun on it too? Yeah, it needed a nerf. Be glad the stun is still the same.

Cure 3 now can actually be used. When it procs, it AoE heals a good amount for less mana than a Cure II. Even if it just heals the tank(s) and a melee, that's ahead on hp/mana ratio. And it will be the go-to AoE heal on fights like Titan, when everyone's stacked on each other thanks to the range increase and cast time decrease.

Everything Yoshida has said in this unscheduled live letter was disingenuous. I'm not even a white mage, but I can still see that his comment about Medica 2 either implies Yoshida really doesn't understand combat or is just trying to be politic. This whole debacle is ruining his credibility as well as his notion of transparency.

If any white mage felt compelled to fire off a Holy in any serious situation they soon would learn the folly of their ways. It had some very (hilariously) situational uses, but I don't think anyone felt compelled to use Holy for it's damage thinking that it was more important than curing.

You do realize that DPS means Damage Per Second, yes? For your argument to be correct it would need to do the SAME damage over double the time.

If I have a DoT attack that does 300 damage every three seconds it is effectively doing 100 DPS provided it is active. If it suddenly does 150 damage every three seconds it doesn't matter how long it is active for, it is now only doing 50 dps.

The cost of the ability is the ONLY thing being mitigated here, you essentially use half the cost and do half the dps.

The fact that it was OP is what caused people to demand WHM to aoe too, I mean a good WHM should but they should not be forced to so here we are
