Well it already has effected pve. What a lot of 2.0 players don't know is mages use to be move and cast. Which was changed solely on the belief that it was going to be over powered in pvp. So instead of a compromise like in eqoa having a Mage at least be able to walk and cast not run they just made it you can't move even worse if some one sprint and just gets behind you before you cast your spell is cancelled.
Melee are getting buffed because they can't keep up with ranged classes in many bosses due having to move in and out interrumping their DPS, could you imagine if the only drawback of a caster (being rooted while casting) was gone? their DPS would sky rocket because they wouldn't have to stop casting, ever. It also applies to healers, being able to heal and dodge AoEs at the same time would be very broken.
I haven't read Yoshi saying it was changed solely because PvP, if you provide a source I'll eat my hat and shut up :<

Search that for pvp and you'll see where he says it.

We had QQing about BRD before we even got pvp, so I expect the whine factor to be a whole new level here.
