when they showed that in the LL, it was so surreal. also the timing, it's like they did that to test the waters, but they didn't read the Data afterwards.

Almost enough to elicit a Dark Chuckle where one looks at prey.

Yeah, see... I'd get that. I truly would. Them showing something that's a little on the poorer quality and try to work on improving it and collect feedback as they went along...

...but that's not what they did.

Not only did they release the hairstyles anyway as-was. Not only did they make off-handed comments about "well, if we did as the fans asked for, it'd take a lot more effort" despite us knowing very well that effort had nothing to do with it when they're hired professionals (again: amateur modder on a bachelor course did it in a week. Man up, Square*). They also told us specifically "well, we certainly weren't expecting that reaction".

...I'm sorry, what sort of reaction would you have if to fit new outfits for Lalafell we'd have to cut out their fingers, Mr. Producer????

*I know people will nitpick on this. I'm telling them to nut up over them saying that it'd be too hard and they needed a larger effort and resources. Because it certainly isn't so. However, they do have other justifications for why it happened. It's just that the one they provided isn't one when the community solved it in a week.

"Test the waters" is so so funny because well...6.1 recently dropped in korea. And despite the fact that hrothgar hairstyles have had ears since August, this is not the case with the newly released patch on korean servers. Which means they deliberately removed ears so they could affix them later and not have to work on extra hairstyles. We know this because hrothgar got none of the new styles viera got in 6.1 with the release of 6.2, even Rainmaker, yknow the hairstyle that everyone was screaming about getting back in the game. Nope, we now have proof they deliberately made hrothgar options a travesty just to do slightly less later. Hrothgar still only have 5 options character creation (4 options tied directly to facetype and Emmanellain) while viera have 5x that amount because...I have no idea.
And that is unacceptable and lame.

I think it's pretty simple: they try to get away with the bare minimum possible. Typically, the community has been accepting of anything they do, so that's probably why they were surprised they got any pushback.

They really messed up on that one. It's the one subject where you can trash SE on the main subreddit's front page and have most people in full agreement. The ears drama was the turning point where it became impossible to defend them anymore.

Yeah it was pretty hard to ignore. The Hrothgar with the 2B haircut, smiling at us... It looks like it's mocking the Hrothgar players.

I'm baffled they thought it was acceptable, they really expected the players to be happy about this ? Do they actually think they don't have to put as much effort (if not more) in this race as the rest ?

They would never release an hairstyle that removes Miqo'te's ears, so they should strive to treat all players characters with as much serious as the others.

I'd expect this sort of garbage behaviour from Alim/Gumi, not extremely vaunted Creative Business Unit 3.

Honestly it's posts like these that helped me cope with the ear issue. Non-hroth players saw it and were upset for us, we weren't just a whiny child that no one wanted to listen to that some people wanted to make us out to be. It was a big deal despite some people saying stuff like "you should just be happy you have more options now" and "your race wasn't supposed to get anything anyways". Other players saw this and were on our side.

And man, it's just so appreciated.
