Why Thank you sir! I can only hope to continue this fashion and find even more, posisbly better ideas to throw into this giant thread! The more ideas the better.

Square needs to do something or game will die really fast
Thanks for the bumps guys!
But lets keep the thread on topic please :)
Thanks sir, but this idea has been talked about many many times throughout this long thread!
I am all for lottery spawns, as that is an aspect of FFXI I loved. Just the respawn timers need to be raised, albeit not to incredible times between respawns... but not 2-5 minutes. Notorious Monsters should be rare, and cause excitement when they are seen unclaimed. Not boring regular monsters that everyone passes by.
If this new art is of 'Ultima Weapon' instead of a different style of Bahamut, they could make it work like VII's Ultima Weapon fight (which they somewhat incorporated into XI with Sandworm, Dark Ixion and the VNM Yilbegan) where it's a world spawn (minus VNM version) but it travels through zones and while you can attack it, it'll run away from you (Ixion) unless you use a specific item to keep it in place and claim it.
Much like in VII Ultima Weapon will fight then run away after x damage and go to a random location (or straight to where the ancient forest is iirc, but I hate that game so I may have forgotten) and be the final showdown, so whoever gets the ultimate claim at it's 'resting spot' will be the victorious party, unless the alliance system is implemented at that point in time.
I prefer special conditions met. You should put in hard work and effort to fight HNMs with your group. Not wait and twiddle your thumbs until it pops.
This is fair. I agree as well, I think some NM's/HNM's should have requirements that have to be met before the fight can begin. But some is the key word used here.
Why can't we have HNM/NM's that cater to multiple crowds. How about some force pops. Some instanced HNM/NM's for the ones who despise open world content.
How about Open World HNM/NM's for those who despise Instanced content?
How about crazy 21-24h HNM's for the mass of XI fans who miss the chaos?
We need it all.
Thats actually the best thing about this thread... You're not asking for any one specific thing... just a variety of NM content of all types...
Also, I said this in another thread but I think it could deserve to be said here:
In the spirit of fairness, you could also make it so the Sandworm got weaker, the longer he was up... so after like 3 or 4 weeks of not being killed he would be easy enough for a party of 8. That way, if the entire server loses interest at some point then small groups of people aren't completely locked out of that zone... They'd just have to wait until the worm was weak enough to be killed by a single party. The lore could even say that the longer the sandworm spends above ground and away from his Aether source, the weaker he gets. (And therefore you never actually beat him.. you just do enough damage to drive him back under the ground to recuperate)
Or not.. you could just keep him the same difficulty and if a server can't get the people together to beat him... tough luck
While this is off topic, I think your statement is unfair.
XI's Fanbase, according to MMOStats, in 2007 was almost 600,000 people. Yet you consider that "tiny", before WoW came out it was the highest subbed MMO on the market. (yes, it beat EQ/DAoC/UO).
Yet, regardless of how many players a game had; That does not take away from the fact that alot of people absolutely loved Final Fantasy XI. Just because the game didn't sell 20 million copies wordwise, does not lessen its appeal to most. Why should people get bashed for wanting aspects of a game they so loved put into another game? I may not like certain games, but if a number of people really want content similar to something from that title, then by all means! If it makes people happy, and keeps this game alive, then damnit put all the content in that you can possibly muster up. And I don't think anyone can argue the playerbase's interest in NM/HNM content.
All these one sided remarks do nothing for this game. We need to stop looking at content in terms of black and white, and more of the grey area and do our best to come up with as much stuff to throw in SE's direction. The worst that could happen is the game stays the way it is.
I'll stop your right there.... 600K highest MMO in the market? Try Ragnarok Online and it's more than 40 Million subs. Yes 40 000 000.
As for the HNM yes yes i'm all for that, got nothing against it being from XI. Just when someone praises XI as the god of the FF series and then turn around to say they hate VII, well as a true Final Fantasy fan it just makes puke in my mouth.
Keep your which-FF-is-best discussion to gamefaqs.
Most important thread in these forums. Period.
ADD HNM long timer PVP accessible- ---- ****No complaining rules**** if you get sabotaged - Just fight back - that's what competition is. Competition = claim/ wars/ battle
not just Oh here's my notorious monster Yay I got claim yay i got item ok i dont need this nm no more- this is plain boring if it had no competition, They added boring stuff for the Noob players (Leves), they added boring stuff for the Casual players (Ifrit, Moogle, Dungeons) for god sake let them add HNM for hardcore players- I'm not a hardcore player myself but I truly understand the Standard of competing vs other hardcore players.
So all the casual and noobs out there stop complaining you got nothing to do, se has done stuff for you players who can't play a game to it's perfection, se has done stuff for those who can't play this game for a long period of time. Now let the other % of the population have what they want instead of being so selfish and only wanting stuff you want.
I agree to needing NMs, HNMs, and all of that. Definitely need more of this in the game. I just hope the drops and all the stats on those drops from the NMs/HNMs make a difference while battling, etc.
Comparing to FFXI, the game catered to this due to the fact that leveling was much slower, enemies were much tougher, and death easier to come by. The slower leveling caused ppl to seek out these drops from NMs/HNMs with good stats even at lower levels so they could party/battle and do more damage without being made fun of by others or dying as easily lol. This also helped out crafters because those same players might need a certain piece of crafted gear with better stats than the average gear. FFXIV lacks a little of all of this currently and I hope this changes in the future with patches and 2.0 coming.
Saw the idea roaming in a couple of other threads...
all the Weapons (Ruby Emerald, etc), floating around the world as roaming NM/HNM's (possibly instanced fights? rather not, but if it makes people happy)
Thought it was kinda cool, once I find some time at work i'll update OP
First time on in several months, Bump!
I'd like to see this in FFXIV, and along with it.... Perhaps some achievements with witty titles for killing each NM/HNM. Like we have now when you complete a "set" of them in certain areas. +1
agreed. i thought the use of titles in XI when you killed HNMs and certain rare NMs was a really nice touch.
I agree. It felt good to be the first Vrtra Vanquishers on ramuh :)
It brought a sense of accomplishment through titles and gear, that FFXIV could benefit from (edit: XIV has the gear, but walking around with a cool title would be sweet)
And also, just the overall excitement of that first kill, along with the title to prove it.
No, I don't want a repeat of doing the samething in FFXI. Kiting for thirty minutes and stacking twenty BLM. No thanks.
I understand what you are getting at, but that is not at all what we are asking for.
Denying the implementation of HNM's in general solely dye to a small amount of them requiring a kiting strategy is not a realistic approach. I understand that you may not like the kiting method, and I hope that we have so many other options that you will never have to partake in that certain content; But some of us enjoyed the kited fights :)
There were numerous fun NM's/HNM's. In the earlier days (before we had killed them all 10,000 times) Fafnir was a fun fight, Tiamat was exciting, Alabastor Antlion, Bahamut V2, etc. And this example contains only a handful out of hundreds, if not thousands of fights.. Open world/Instanced/BCNM/KSNM,etc)
We are not just asking for 1 type of monster, we are asking for a wide variety of fights that require many different strategies :)
Look at a wider picture of content!
/edit And Hi Rokien, long time no see
Yea, because you were the only one to claim all HNMs for your shell or you can swear that other mebers never used a bot. Of course you wouldn't say here that you used a bot but every single person that played the HNM game knew it was a matter of who had the best bot for claim.
Either that or lose 90% of claims. If you pretend otherwise you are just a liar and hoping to use your new bot to get those HNM again.
I clearly stated that we won about 40% of claim. Back in those days, alot of HNM's were not heavily camped due to the nature, i.e. Tiamat, Khimaira, etc. And even then, at camps with heavy competition, we were still under 50% claim.
Not sure why it is so hard for people to believe that not everyone used a bot. And this discussion was had almost 50 pages ago, good sir. Please feel free to read the following pages! :)
And even then, please read more on how we DO NOT want just normal window spawn HNM's like FFXI. Should they implement some? Why not? But we want more. We want a system that discourages botting, or atleast makes it so difficult that botting would be pointless.
Instanced HNM.
Wide spawn area HNM.
The list goes on and on... I know not everyone will read the majority of this thread, but there are some very good ideas listed by many users throughout the pages. I posted quite a few in my OP, including ways to may botting irrelevant :)
Rather than berate my ideas, and call me a liar, how about something constructive? :) We would get farther.
only if they implement kill stealing otherwise its pointless
I don't think the problem is how many claim you got at your times, the problem is HNM a-là FFXI are a real downer. Huge time frame and good drops bring the everlasting problem of claim bots. It isn't important if you used them or not, sooner or later somebody will use them. And usually after someone start using happens two thing :
1) mpk
2)after the 20 lost claim due bots, start botting on your own
3) give up camping
Believe it or not, in a forum of my country some idiot planned to buy claim bots because "japanese have huge advantage on claim and we can't let that happens, we need to claim". Do you know how he started planning ? Looking a fucking ARTWORK of a behemoth in 2.0 pdf. Retard guys at his finest, but if camping means dealing with people like this, istance. Istance forever, and good grief on open world nm
wouldnt mind having those 1 per 3-5days instance like dynamis/limbus
or quests like old promi where part of the (frustrating) fun was farming items to open the quest instance.
trigger NMs (zippa anyone?)
