No where on the site does it mention reduced prices. There is information on what you pay per month. You knew this going in, AND the next months feature exclusive events and content that will not be available after 2.0 occurs.Quote:

Paying only half the price sound reasonably enough. Not only this will encourage a lot more people to stay and play, but it could even mean a lot more of newer subscriptions.

10-19-2011, 11:35 PMZanfirewell you need to give those poles some credit too. i am one of those people who arent completely willing to pay full price until 2.0 and im sure as hell not alone, plenty of people who do play on this site feel the same. Of course it may be a small % or for all we know those polls may be right it and might be a large %. The deal here is will SE risk it? the safer route is the lower price, its revenue they need and more people (no matter how many more do it) and less chance of losing them as future customers.Quote:

These threads have been following a curious progression, they map almost perfectly to the five stages of grief
First there were threads disbelieving that pay to play was going to happen.
Next came the slew of threads with much wailing and gnashing of teeth over the price
It looks now like everyone has had a good cry, now we have moved on to bargaining with begging a cold and unfeeling god for half price, with several of the people who said they would NEVER pay actually saying they'd be willing to pay a cut price, curious, it makes it seem like the only thing we really care about is the act of paying not so much the actual "doneness" of the game.
I'm looking forward to when we all get to acceptance and we can just move on, with people willing to pay, paying. And those unwilling, not.
Starting billing is an all or nothing kind of thing. They have gone with free for the past year and now when they say there will be a price we have pushed back, we got comfortable with the fact that it was free. If they go with a half price until 2.0 all that will happen is a slew of threads, most likely started by the same people making these ones, wailing and gnashing their teeth over the "price increase" that they asked for. There will be the same arguments that the game is not ready or that they don't feel it is worth it. We'll just go through this same rigamarole a second time. Also, to the statemnt that going with half price would be "good PR", this is true in the short term with those of us who are actually playing the game, reveiwers won't even notice. In the Long term though it will be "Bad PR". Once 2.0 goes live and if there was a "price increase", trust me, that is what all the reviews will latch on to as well as the inevitabe wailing that will happen on the forums. SE and FFXIV will gain a reputation of pissing off it's community and seeing them as nothing more than dollar signs to be harvested. Half price may draw in new players in the short term, but like most here now, they will also balk at the purposed "price hike" and we'll have yet another round of people threatening to quit because it is "unfair". Basically in the short term SE may lose current players, but may gain future customers after 2.0, going with half price and a price increase at 2.0 they will most likely only retain current players and lose future players due to "unfair billing increases"
as some one else said...It is better to rip off the bandage, rather than to prolong the agony by pulling it off slowly. -
