I'm not bitter enough to think SE are going to be like "here's your new viera hair female viera players but you have to fantasia to male to access it!". I would far sooner believe they would add nothing at all.

I know hrothgar hair is locked to faces and you do need to fantasia to change it but it's still not the same as telling players they need to literally change the gender of their character to have access to new hair and trying to market that as some cool feature.

I'm really sad that they are keeping the Viera's and Hrothgar update silent. They didn't even touch the subject during the whole fan fest. Please say something, a no is better than being silent I guess. It's sad that that I farmed toons of hairs in the game and I can't use them as a Viera. I'm not even asking for hats, which would be nice, but at least give us the modern aesthetics since every other race has access to it. I wanna go back to be a bunny girl but the lack of customization is keeping me from playing as my favorite race. Don't get me wrong I love my elezen, but it's not the same thing. C'mon Yoshi P. don't let us down T_T

Yeah I remember that quote too, even though I remember them saying they would add the legacy hairstyles as well (but I think we can forget those). I can imagine them just adding viera hairs with each expansion instead of patchwise. So instead of getting one here and there, they will just give us a 4 at the same time. They can't really create content to farm a hairsyle only available for vieras so I can't really see them doing it any other way. Unless they actually start putting in the hours to make hairstyles for all.

I will say this: I am both elated for male viera, even though I won’t play them, and disappointed we didn’t hear a peep about the state of viera/hroth hair the whole stream.

That said, I do not think this team is as scummy to be like “well TECHNICALLY we SAID a slower rate hehe....so anything we do isn’t lying :)”. While I do think it’s ridiculous and frankly bad taste they are just ignoring it while giving out a ton of hairs to everyone else, I am going to try to give them the benefit of the doubt that there’s a reason for it. We still have the 14 hour stream. We also still have the huge live letter and media tour before the launch. This whole fanfest, while cool, seemed kinda poorly organized (to be expected- it was an experiment). They didn’t allot nearly enough time to events. The Q&A got cut off after like 5 questions. The VA panel went way over schedule. 2 hours for a keynote that was supposed to encompass 2 fanfests worth of content reveal- they didn’t even touch on huge swaths of upcoming content. It’s possible that they simply didn’t have the time.

I try to keep in mind that the way they announced all that hard work that their team did on headgear in a really lowkey way- I believe a forum post? So it’s possible we can expect something similar.

I’ll keep the faith until EW. The addition of male viera and the promise of female hrothgar, while I always expected them to show up eventually, shows that they are listening and care about these races. But if by any chance this feedback gets back to the dev team: a little word on the matter sooner than later would go a long way!

Just switched back to my veena as well. I need to catch up in story (haven't even unlocked the latest dungeon), and prep for the main story leading into EW come the 25th. I was hoping with good news during fanfest I would want to stay Viera, now I'll just be thinking of the hairstyle I paid 8 million gil for that I could use on Miqo'te, and that new one (someone mentioned) that I won't be able to use, with no alternatives for viera. Thing is I'll want to be viera for EW launch too (For story) so it'd be even more of a waste of money if I switched back and forth again..

Miqo'te just isn't my thing for story cutscenes, I can't take her seriously. Viera is my favorite. :(

What some optimists say is that with male viera, viera as a race is 'complete', so now we should start receiving updates. I still think it's quite a bit late, they could have at least said something. Not to mention all the jumping around the question of male viera for the past couple years, and how they just couldn't add them.. I guess they really did want that to be there hit 'surprise' announcement.

i think its far more likely you will get something rushed and will be just as broken as their counter parts and stuck with the same amount of hair and having to fantasia to change it

Yeah. It’s possible that they wanted the focus completely on that, and later in the other events they’ll focus on racial updates. Hrothgar aesthetician and expanded hair library would be ideal. Again I’ll point out that male viera are noticeable less floofy than female viera...it could be possible they are working on a way to make viera compatible with the current hair system, and possibly hats.

With Male Viera coming out of left field, literally anything is possible at this point.

Just in case anyone is curious about what I said I found a screenshot of my boyfriend and I facing each other in game and as you can see the height difference is pretty small between a max height male miqo and a min height female viera. Perhaps from this we can say that male viera are going to be able to be at least as tall as male miqos? Whether that means it would be min, mid or max slider height we don't know. Have to wait and see.

It may be because I made my Viera fairly tall, i fifty realize the min height ones was barely taller than the male Miqo’te. I kinda like that, makes me happy that my male Viera can hopefully be taller than at least some females.

I mean, to be fair, they never said they couldnt add them, they just said that they werent coming in ShB and that they didnt know about the future (months ago before their reveal, he said we are doing our best a/trying to iirc)

They don’t have a date pinned down yet because of corona. But somewhere between now and November. It was supposed to happen in Feb I think but they were unable to because of restrictions.

Oh, this was a request for a good while that almost completely died out by the end of HW. Padjal or characters built like the Twins as a playable option were the more prominent ideas but the argument that FFXIV had standards regarding potential loli/shota playable avatars thankfully shut that crap down.

By "two races at once is too much" they likely meant "two races with both sexes", meaning four character models. Female Viera and male Hrothgar together count as one "race" in development terms, and now male Viera and female Hrothgar are one "race".

Hey, if they have them ready by the benchmark that's fantastic.

But if they're not coming this expansion I just hope they put some of that time towards some of the things that were also supposed to be coming later, or in future patches.

I'll be glad if they take their time with female hrothgar. Not only would that give them more time to work on viera hairs, the hairs we were definitely going to get, it may also give them the time they need to not rush out another beast race that has to fantasia to change their hair.. their one other hair..

Yes I want the hrothgirls to be beautiful and for them not to rush them. They worked so hard on the bun boys so to demand the lion gals next and so fast would be so much pressure. We know they're coming and I'm so delighted in that.

I will say that I hope in the new expansion or in a patch afterwards, existing Viera and Hrothgar can have more hair and better customization. I love the hair I have on my girl but it's limiting especially on the male lion side of things.

I swore said they weren't coming this expansion, but are planning on introducing them in the future because they wanted to take time to work them.

But then again, skeptical me says, its hard to say anymore considering at lot of "its coming" and "in the future" is very very difficult to take at face value anymore. Considering we are still in our 'future state' of waiting on hair. lol

They said that they wouldn't be coming at the same time as male Viera, but that they were indeed coming. That could mean anything, really, but I'm guessing 7.0 at the latest.

I believe all that was said was that they'll be revealed later. Which, to me, sounds like they're saving another reveal for later, because we've still got a few months to go until launch and they need to keep the hype train going. But we'll see.

I would love them to add female hrotgar at 6.0, but they did explicitly state that they would not be coming alongside male viera and not on 6.0, so I personally doubt they're gonna be released on launch, as much as I'd like them to. That being said, they did say they couldnt do male viera so who knows at this point.

Problem is what is right for even male viera during EW? They most definitely aren't going to have hats.. Maybe they will release a couple unisex styles in the next couple years, or be able to use female hairs? They are being released too early, in my opinion. I was saying this just now in another thread actually.

I think we should have got our graphical update first, where races would supposedly be easier, and less time consuming to implement. It will be a gigantic shame if female hrothgar are just as limited as male hrothgar because they get released to early. Male hrothgar have so many glaring issues.. those should have been, and should be addressed before piling on the problems. MAYBE, there is a chance, that during the implementation of female hrothgar, they won't inherit male hrothgar issues, but we really don't know. All this prior to the graphical update has me concerned.
