Last night did qarn leveling. All group leveling. Tank is clueless but we get to final boss after like 60 min. Final boss (we wiped on all) imhav to tell team what to do. Dps isn't grabbig adds so I do. I die. Next try they blame it on me and say since I'm fooling around its my fault. I'm fooling around cause were going horribly slow. This time I try to just heal and am mobbed but kill a couple adds on podiums. Third run I'm told to do nothing but heal even though adds are just murdering me because I'm healing too much. We had about 20 adds by the time they killed me, it was hilarious
Halatali HM run with randoms. Apparently I was a "terrible healer" because the BLM in the party got hit by one of the random traps early in the dungeon and lost like 1/4 health. I heal, while at the same time the Tank had been Paralyzed by one of the enemies. Couple seconds go by after healing the BLM, I proceed to top of the Tank and then Leeches to remove the paralysis.
The Tank flips out on me saying "You know, you could actually Leech me in a timely manner next time." Literally no more than two seconds go by where the tank is paralyzed.
But that wasn't all. I mean sure, I could, and arguably should have, Leeched the tank first and then topped them off. Well, then the BLM chimed. "You are a terrible healer. I have healed in MMOs for over ten years, and you are the worst I have ever had to run with."
At this point I'm scratching my head, and more than a bit upset because I had had a long day at work and came home to enjoy the game, not to listen to stupid people. I give the BLM some not so kind words, and say that perhaps next time I'll let them die and only concentrate on healing the tank ever. BLM scoffs and we move on to the first boss of Halatali. But before the pull begins my screen goes black and I get a message saying I had been kicked from the instance and party.
That sucks tsurayu but eh it's life as a healer if something anything goes wrong in any dun it's the healers fault even if it's the tank standing in aoes or pulling to much it's our fault cuz we are suppose to heal them thru the screw ups lol and do it without taking hate pft the things healers gotta go thru and honestly people wonder why for the most part healer roles are under populated gee lol
Lately every Brayflox HM can turn into a healing horror story. I have never had problems with speed runs but after the first boss if tank pulls all the illuminati gliders of the area, chances are that they will start attacking me interrupting my healing or instant killing me and the little self esteem I had treasured untill that moment.
I'm full AF ilvl90 so higher than the lvl required. I don't think i'm pulling aggro but in this case i'm really clueless as to what I should/shouldn't do.
When you get disconnected (90k) during what seemed to be a T8 kill.
mine is a pretty recent one. had gone into trail roulette as sch to finish getting tomes. 10 min later i end up exactly where i thought i would be; titan hm. the last few times i had titan, the groups were great. this time, not so much. we had some new people, so i expected deaths to happen. i didnt expect the slightly more geared whm to die 3 times, pretty much forcing me to solo heal the fight.
Went into AK the other day, had a look at the dps, the blm has a level 41 weapon, the drg at least has their i55 weapon, but the rest of the gear was trash, both admit their new. Thought to myself, this'll be interesting, as we get to the first boss and the tank rushes straight in while I'm typing an explanation of what to do, only get time to write stay out of aoe and kill adds before I need to heal. End up having to solo all the gloum adds myself, but not too hard with my gear. We carry on, and get to the wall, this time the tank listens to me and waits. I know he's gonna go in any second, and advise our dps to just shadow me and the tank. The dps get hit by every set of goo after ignoring my advice completely, so I don't get any dps off myself. Second set of repel goes off, we're not even 1/3 through the boss's hp bar, so I make an emergency decision, DS medica II, and the dps are on their own as I CS and burn the boss. Both dps go down but I managed to burn down the wall just before the final repel that would have crushed us. Have a proper look at the dps, both are about i45. Tell em their gonna have a bad time if they go out of their depth on gear, and we go to the final boss. Again, explaine about catastroph and the pulsers and adds, and we start. Ended up soloing the the first add, moving through the second add when I get the first pulser, run away and drop it in a safe spot, watch the blm drop it on the tank ; ;. Panic DS SC Medica II, both dps go down due to non existant hp pools, ended up burning the boss on my own. Get the final hit in with both me and the tank on our last 100 hp, 3 adds waleing on me, and the fifth catastroph just about to go off. What a rush!
On my alt in a Bray HM run a couple weeks back I got a very well geared tank and DPS group. I was ilvl 56 or so (mostly AF1 and 48/49 accessories with the CT head and crafted i70 weapon). Tank does the speed run tactic pulling mobs for two pulls. I was able to keep him alive spamming Cure II and burning SoS. Asked if we could slow down since I was way undergeared for a speed run, tank said I was doing fine and pressed on.
Second pull I didn't have half my MP back and SoS was still on cooldown. Barely managed keep him up. Boss was no issue. The part where you need to free the gobbies was a problem, I was barely keeping the tank alive while being bombarded by the gliders. DPS were able to kill at least half of the enemies before I bit the dust (got benediction onto the tank right before I died), followed by the tank's death. Everyone says it's alright about the wipe and goes on (phew).
Again another big pull after the 2nd boss. Barely managed to keep the tank alive (again). We ultimately won with little issue, but it was rough for the undergeared heals lol.
I have a healing horror story for you guys. Was in Brayflox Hard and the SCH was cross class healing, with CURE. Tank kept dying and this person has animus weapon I ask them, "why using cure? it's weaker because your cross classing it - why not use psychic? s/p"
Tank gets all apeshit MAD and told me "to back off. Chill out its just on her bar man."
I tell them "Well if its a mistake, I understand but it shouldn't even be on her bar to begin with." Brd agrees.
Sch then finally talks, "You've never played sch don't tell me what to do." (I'm on my alt monk.) So I reply, "Yes I do. You should pull it off your bar so you don't make the mistake."
Tank tells me to, "CHILL OUT MAN." in caps. lol. I tell him, "I am just explaining."
Next fight tank dies again, sch still cure spamming.
I say, "She's still cure spamming." Tank said, "Let her be bro."
I said, "Okay if you want to teach her the wrong thing at 50, that's on you bro. I don't know but when she gets into groups with pug tanks, those people wont be as pleasant as me. So GL with that."
They stay silent for rest of the run. Sch is healing with psychic and we stop wiping on first trash/ beat dungeon.
Also I think brd gave me a commedation, thanks man I returned the favor.
I don“t really see using "Cure" being such a problem. Beside the animation, they are practically they same ability with the same potency(400). There is no trait that makes the "Physic" superior. Although I do agree that it is a waste to spend a cross-class slot on "Cure".
Brayflox HM. FC friend and I join a PF that has ilvl80 dps, hoping for a more relaxed run. He's tanking and I'm healing. I've never had much issue, except for the gliders until I discovered the stacking method. However dps was too slow and we wiped twice on the glider pull, due to me going oom from the cure 3 spam so tank and I can stay alive. DPS are standing too far away for cure3 to work on them.
Then they proceed to tell me I'm a bad healer since I'm not AoE healing. Wut?
I want to point out here: Cure and Physick have the same healing potency (400). So aside from a different animation, I actually don't know why it really matters that they were using it? It will heal for the same regardless. I tried this with my Level 50 WHM and both of them cured for exactly the same average amount. Physick doesn't get any sort of Procs as a Scholar (unlike Cure does for a White Mage.) Maybe they just liked the animation better.
Honestly, you probably just wiped because the Scholar was getting used to damage outputs and stuff (because the trash in Brayflox HM can hit hard and fast and takes some adjusting as a healer, especially if the group is trying to SR and large mobs are being pulled.) Remember - a Scholars most powerful heal aside from Lustrate is Physick. They don't get a 600 heal Potency spell like White Mages do with Cure II. And if the Tank was taking a ton of damage and not popping cooldowns properly, even Eos might not be able to keep up with that.
I think it's less of a case of "Bad healer" and more of a case of "Healer attempting to figure out the best way to heal in that dungeon." You getting onto them also might not have helped and possibly shaken their confidence a little.
This happened just yesterday:
Queued up for Hard Mode Roulette and got AK.
A few mobs later I was wondering why we were taking awhile to kill mobs even with my Holy spam.
I thought the Summoner was in Battlemage glamour but he was in Battlemage gear... lvl 34 gear... in a lvl 50 dungeon...
I asked him nicely "Hey (Name of Summoner), did you ever get your AF body? ^^;"
The Summoner said "lol yes but I left it in my safe and gave my retainer my crimson gear"
/facepalm
The party was like w...t...f...
We didn't kick him but it was pretty unbelievable that someone would do that...
Sacred Coil, Eye4eye, Succor and Lustrate - i had no idea people can struggle with gliders. Pld can also cover you.
Cure2 is 650 potency, Adloquium is 600 potency with a 25% chance of 1350 potency. But what that sch really needed is to macro Cure with Embrace and it would be a viable endgame build.
Healing horror stories... I have so many that it would probably take me a few posts to post them all, where do I begin?
It was a dark and stormy night. A group of four was trapped within a dank and gloomy cavern. The girl in white timidly looked at the others of the group and nervously spoke, "It is my first time, so please be gentle with me. Ah, but it wouldn't be too bad if there was a little... Sorry, I was fantasizing a little." The others looked at the girl and after a long pause, two more voices were heard. "This is my first time too." "I've never been here before." And finally, the gruff man in heavy silver spoke: "I'm new." With great nervousness, the group slowly moved on into the toxic cavern. Slow footsteps could be heard, six sets of footsteps could be heard as the group of four walked... Six? The girl paused as she looked around, worried. She counted the number in the group. Four, including her. So why then was there six? And she saw them, odd creatures with beating wings. And then the gruff man charged in as if crazed... After a lengthy battle, the four vanquished the creatures. Their journey had just begun and the girl had learned one thing from the battle-the monsters either really loved her or really hated her because they charged straight at her and seemed to ignore the others in the group. The group continued on at that pace until they reached a second blue circle. There, they fought a giant plant-like creature-innocent enough until two more appeared, quickly attacking the girl and pouring out their foul poison. Suddenly, the girl felt sluggish and her health quickly deteriorated. As she perished, she uttered her last words... "Why did you do nothing as they brutally murdered me?" To this day, you can sometimes hear the hateful sobs of the girl as you wander those caverns. They say that the girl wanders those caverns to this day, haunting adventurers with her hate. And some say, if a group of three enters the caverns, they may be accompanied by a strange girl-a girl bearing odd resemblance to the one who died in those caverns...

Ok, lets go with shorthand for the next stories. This time: Stone Vigil will be the dungeon. (Feel free to let me know if you want to hear the lengthy version of any of these-but I know nobody will).
There was also this time in Stone Vigil when the tank turned the boss and wiped out all the dps and died himself almost at the start of the fight. I ended up soloing the boss for like 30 minutes. Including when people kept leaving and joining-the boss turned invincible a few times because of this. I am NEVER soloing the boss again. I could've finished a dungeon in that time.
There was another time in Stone Vigil when we reach the first enemies and we find that the tank just flat out died, couldn't hold aggro, and was just horrid. After that fight, I looked at the tank's gear. GRAY level 10 gear. Let me say that again for those that didn't catch that. GREY RARITY LEVEL TEN EQUIPMENT.
Another time in Stone Vigil. Same issue. Looked at his gear. NO EQUIPMENT EXCEPT FOR A LEVEL 1 WEAPON. Let me say that again. NO ARMOR, NO ACCESSORIES, ONLY A LEVEL ONE GRAY WEAPON BOUGHT FROM AN NPC.
Another time in Stone Vigil, tank decided-in the middle of the second battle, after I had JUST put regen on, to suddenly sprint. And decided to aggro what must have been half the dungeon up to the first boss. Without actually grabbing aggro on any. Needless to say, I suddenly had a lot of enemies after me.
Another time in Stone Vigil, tank decided to be funny and EVERY boss and enemy, would bring them to the party so that they'd aoe the party. Needless to say, mages don't cast very well when being forced to constantly move. This included bringing the second boss to the cannons and facing it towards whatever cannon was needed.
Another time, reached last boss, entire party started the battle and then suddenly left pretty much at the same time (not dc) without warning and without bothering to attack the boss past aggroing it and making sure I was inside.
Another time, tank decided that it would be funny to tank the enemy in the middle of a dragon firebreath spot with two melee dps in the party.
Another time, tank started the battle and as soon as I healed, started dancing. Aggro quickly turned on me.
Another time, DPS decided to pull every enemy they could find and brought them to the tank while he was trying to hold aggro on a group of enemies. Needless to say, a badly timed flash...
Ok, do I really even need to list all of the times?

Next stories, random assortment of dungeons/trials.
Ifrit: DPS refused to attack the nail several times in a row. Finally killed the nail after a bunch of tries by ignoring healing when the nail spawned.
Coil T4: After a party wipe on the last dread, one of the healers refused to heal.
Coil T4: Healer DC'ed mid-dread. Stuck solo healing the rest of the fight-which ended fairly quickly since I drew ALL the aggro next wave and shroud couldn't drop it enough-the healing was fine, it was all the enemies attacking me that was the problem.
Coil T4: Healer accused me of not healing and not using cure. Despite the fact that I was spamming cure and cure 2 on the main tank (and was better geared). Entire time, had a dps and a healer spending more time accusing me of doing things wrong than doing their roles.
Aurum Vale: Tank decided to pull every enemy in the first room without warning (after I had mentioned that it was my first time). Lost aggro on like all the enemies and then said: I guess you aren't geared well enough for me to do a speed run.
Brayflox Longstop (Hard): Tank decides to do a speed run. Pulls all the enemies and couldn't hold aggro. Like, at all. Like cure 1 pulled ALL the aggro off him after making sure he had grabbed aggro. Complains about my healing not being good enough and calls me undergeared.
Brayflox Longstop (Hard): Tank decides to do a speed run. Doesn't check that the party is ready. Starts the run with the BLM afk. Party wipes because I run out of MP. Blames me for not being geared. I say that there is no point doing a multi-pull if there is no AoE. He says BLM is AoE. I say that BLM wasn't there. Other DPS agrees, the BLM even admits it. Tank tries again. Can't hold aggro and loses it to the entire party despite not getting paralyzed.
I was playing titan ex with a PF group, we manage to reach after heart everything going well till the adds spawn, its like got in panic and start to eat plumes or got hitted by bombs well we manage to kill adds but when that happen the MT die and the OT take titan, my healer partner die at the first set of bombs, so here you can see me healing the rest of the fight and DPS dying one by one, finally when reach the superbombs only the MT and I are alive next Tank die and me tanking trying the imposible mission of destroying a bomb (LOL) but I look at my LB bar and see its on lvl3 I wait to the last second to use it, titan jumps -> throw LB3 -> all party get revived with the inmortality in the exact time when bombs explode and titan landed, I was the only who died xD... but nobody I think expect that beacuse they are standing still without doing nothing like 1 or 2 sec and start moving (maybe that was the server latency) at the end... we still wipe xD, but thats my best healer LB3 use till today.
I'm a White Mage, not a Scholar, so I don't have the ability to do that. This was also in a DF group, not a Party Finder group, and I wasn't geared for a Speed Run. The WAR didn't check with the party before pulling all of the mobs (although he broke up the area before the first boss into two pulls instead of one, which I was able to heal through.)
He pulled everything in the second zone prior to the second boss (which isn't a lot, but if they all choose one target to use Glider Ram on, that person's going to get hurt). And yes, I had stoneskin on. Getting about nine Glider Rams into the face when I wasn't really expecting it, on top of the fact that I didn't really have the gear to do a speed run of the dungeon means that I basically just took a dirt nap where I stood.
I do not understand why did you:
- start a sch strategy discussion while being a whm;
- start a speedrun while being undergeared for it;
- expect a smooth speed run in DF.
I cannot really give you advices on whm as i never did a speed run on whm.
What only comes in mind is:
- eye4eye before the pull so mobs would already have a debuff on them;
- stoneskin self before the pull to increase ehp;
- keep both regen and medica 2 on self because heal over time can make a difference between a wipe;
- use cure3 a lot (standing near the tank) so you will have more healing incoming.
While gliders attacks are rapid - there is a small delay between them, goal is to get a HoT proc/pre-casted heal during their attacks.
950/hit base, 9 gliders = 8.5k damage. Sacred Soil + eye4eye = 6800, adlo = 6000, embrace = 5400, lustrate = 1.2k each. Can stoneskin self on top of that. Seriously, i did a lot of speed runs and was never 1-shot, but it was not in DF, i am not undergeared and i know how to use heal under heavy fire. If healer starts casting adlo while below 60% life of course they will die.
Horror story...sort of.
I realised that I need to start my relic quest for my SCH and I am incredibly nervous!
Ooh, you're on my server!
If you want help send me a tell, I'll be your backup heals =P
1. I was commenting on someone bitching about how a Scholar was using Cure instead of Physick and commenting on how Cure has less Cure potency than Physick (which it doesn't.) and the conversation moved from there to discussing cure potency overall. I obviously got the thing about Cure II wrong, but in my defense I was going by memory and didn't have the actual skill description in front of me, so I assumed it was 600. I was obviously wrong there, so apologies.
2. I didn't start the speedrun in Brayflox via Duty Finder. Re-read my posts. The WAR did a speed run pull without giving ANYONE the chance to respond and say "Hey we're not geared for a speedrun" otherwise I would have done so. They literally charged ahead right off the bat and did one pull of the first area, we wiped, I mentioned "I'm undergeared for a speed run." He said "Okay, I'll slow down". And then when we got to the pulls before the second boss, he pulled everything again anyways and we wiped a second time. I can't be faulted for the Tank choosing not to take five seconds to make sure the group is capable of a speed run. So let me re-iterate again to be clear: I did not instigate the speedrun, the Tank did. We wiped because I was unprepared and undergeared for it. I entered Brayflox Hard through Roulette to get Soldiery tomes, not to speedrun.
Had what felt like a 15+ minute Garuda HM run last night.
Did my Trial DR for the night and ended up with Garuda HM. Alright, no problem. A cursory glance at the HP values indicated to me that people were relatively new but both PLDs were at least 6K HP+ and the other healer was sitting at around 3.8K HP, so the core of the team had a good amount of HP and indicated to me we were over geared.
Got to the fight, MT has no idea where to actually pull Garuda after Aerial Blast. People were eating constant tornadoes and slipstreams due to positioning and the OT wasn't picking up the sisters very well at all. On the 4th Mistral Shriek, we all wipe.
MNK in party asks if we can swap tanks. Promptly gets kicked for harassment. I mimic the sentiment and told the MT plainly that they didn't know how to position Garuda and then was going to start to explain the positioning when the MT left. Then the other healer left. Well poop.
I poke my FC and get a SCH and PLD to que in progress to join up. At this time, a new BRD also joins and we're back up to a full party AND 10% Echo. This should go well.
We do the pulls again, get post Aerial Blast and then the crap starts to hit the fan. DPS is having issues downing sisters and when the tornados bisect the arena and start to rotate, neither BLM, BRD, or SMN move from the rotation (most likely unable to understand the mechanics) and are promptly splattered on the ground. The OT has issues positioning the sisters properly and getting people Wicked Wheeled and Slipstreamed constantly. This goes on for several rotations as myself and the SCH do our best to maintain party health and raise people while going through the ordeal. Garuda's life is barely moving as the green beam sister manages to regenerate all life we did from the previous phase. You know it's bad when my SCH friend is constantly riding close to 500MP due to massive amounts of healing to be done. I was popping Shroud on cool down and X-Ethers like they're candy.
Thankfully, the DRG with an Ifrit weapon is in full myth and can survive several single sister Mistral Shrieks and the BLM begins to understand the fight more often and is able to dodge mechanics more frequently as the fight progresses. When prompted to AoE Limit Break 3, we started to finally make some headway, but it was still hardly making a dent in Garuda's HP pool. Eventually, trusting in my healing partner, I started to DPS, with my Stone II's taking chunks of life off the sisters and Garuda thanks to being i94 and 10% Echo (I'm pretty certain I was out DPSing the BRD + SMN + BLM combined). Things go on like this for a while more and we were able to get a second Limit Break 3.
Yes, I repeat myself. A SECOND LIMIT BREAK THREE.
Eventually, we down the feathery fiend thanks to a LB1 from our DRG once he realized Garuda was weak enough to finish on before the next sister spawn.
As my SCH friend put it: "The Garuda HM of the century"
Apparently, double post time. Trial DR is disliking me lately.
Ifrit HM tonight. 4K HP PLD, 5.4KHP WAR, 3K HP BRD + SCH, 3.8KHP DRG. Okay, I can live with that. Most of them look like fresh 50s based on HP and appearance. I'll just compensate for any tardy play and keep people maintained. I can heal Ifrit HM with my eyes closed. I do notice our DPS was 3x BRD + DRG so I know our nail phase is gonna be a bit harder than most, but I'll just help through DPS onto the nails as we go to it.
Right off the bat, MT and OT can't decide who's tanking. WAR thought it was tanking first then I guess there was a disagreement, so the PLD started to MT. Mind you, they were both standing in front of Ifrit, getting cleaved, and they kept bouncing hate off each other so it was difficult to tell who to heal. All good, Regen both, pop heals as needed, stay out of Cleric's Stance since the tanks are bumbling a bit - no issue.
The BRD with 4.2K HP + Atma weapon pulls hate while the tanks decide "who's MTing". They're standing beside the poor little SCH who promptly gets cleaved and breathed and dies a horrible death. Ouch. I Swiftcast + Raise and resume normal duties while the tanks bumble with positioning Ifrit in a relatively safe area (relatively - still not quite at the edge). Because of bouncing hate at the positioning of the tanks, the DRG gets cleaved on occasion, but easily handled. Eventually, hate stabilizes onto the PLD.
One of the BRDs is having issues dodging tackles and erruptions, again, can be healed through, since nothing in Ifrit HM is particularly deadly at this stage of the game. There is a sense of foreboding here with the inadequacy of the dodging and how the tanks are handled Ifrit earlier, but I swallow that feeling and keep going.
Nails come and pass without issue (and surprisingly no need to LB either - I contributed DoTs while keeping the MT up). Inferno happens, we survive.
Not sure what happens, but the MT goes splat at this point in the stage when plumes happen (I'm going to guess he got hit with a stacked plume + an attack from Ifrit immediately afterwards). Ifrit comes chasing after me. I put Ifrit into position, give myself a few Cure IIs and wonder if the WAR will Provoke off me. I don't see Provoke for 15 seconds and determined the person hasn't gotten all their cross classes yet, so I Shroud and hate goes back to the OT. At this point in time, SCH gets the MT back up.
The full party is only alive for a few seconds as Ifrit uses his 4 x 4 players erruption trick. This wipes two party members as most players don't know how to dodge this and it wasn't stunned. Then the 95% Arena plumes come and take out two more people. Without further ado, I run to the middle and Limit Break 3 to get everyone back up. For some reason, my Limit Break is consumed but no one is raised at all (I feel like I half bugged it by accidentally tapping my move button at just the right interval to cancel the LB but consume the bars) At this point in time the 4.2K HP BRD drops party (one of the theories my FC has is this BRD dropped while I was LBing hence why it didn't do anything, I wasn't paying attention as I was confused in general). Since that trick didn't work, the next Vulcan Burst killed the DRG and PLD leaving myself and the WAR alive.
Well, this sucks.
So I'm healing the WAR through everything weighing the options in my head and trying to determine if its better to wipe and reset and wait for a DPS or keep fighting it out. The WAR wasn't really dodging Eruptions making it hard to focus on much else short of heals. After one full rotation from Ifrit I decide to say "Ah, to hell with it" and Swiftcast + Raise the SCH during Tackles. SCH gets the other PLD back up and slowly we put the party back together, one Swiftcast at a time. One of the issues was the OT wasn't stunning the 4 x 4 Eruptions, instead he was stunning Plumes which made me go "Bwah?!", so the one BRD who couldn't really dodge kept dying. But we trucked on.
And 15 minutes later, we won.
My fingers hurt.
See... as a tank going into DF, I never assume that people want a speed run, even if they look like they're geared for it. Not everyone is down with that kind of thing. I didn't realize exactly how stressful it was on the healer until I ran into a tank that did a speed run of Stone Vigil. Jesus. She had two Aevis beating on her and pulled more mobs in and it was all I could do to keep her alive. The entire run was like that. As soon as a pull would get down to the last 1-2 mobs barely clinging to life, she'd run off to pull the next ones with them still tagging along behind her. At least we only had one death (the BLM stood in the AoE of three Aevis at once, not much I can do about that).
I think the absolute worst run I've ever been on so far was a Brayflox run with a level 33 Gladiator (yes, Gladiator; she hadn't done her job change) that had no idea whatsoever how to hold aggro. She would kind of halfheartedly hit things and use Flash every so often at random, but it was pretty clear she didn't even know what her primary hate combo was. Explanations seemed to fall on deaf ears, so I spent half the dungeon kiting mobs. Since I'm a tank first and a healer second, I know to run TO the tank when I'm getting hit so they can pull the mobs off me... except this one never did. The worst part was we ended up with a Monk tanking the dragon. -.-
Close behind that was a T1 coil run where one of the tanks was using a Gallant surcoat and Strength-based PVP accessories. She didn't even make it to the point where Cadeuces has stacks on him and starts hitting really hard. Right from the get-go, three attacks and she's down. We tried. Oh lord, we tried. I finally ended up telling her that she needed to fix her gear; I was nice about it. I even told her what stats she *should* be stacking (Strength and Morale isn't gonna cut it, I'm sorry...) She said: Well, if you can't finish it with me then just kick me. So... we did. We all felt pretty bad afterward as it was clear she was trying, but she couldn't survive more than a minute or so into the fight, and during that minute she had a hard time holding hate off the DPS. There was no way that we would've finished that run with the way that she was geared.
T2 enrage mode.
We wipe.
Before that, I noticed the WHM I was healing with died with 40% of her MP remaining. I was empty from having to over-use succor as a SCH because the WHM didn't aoe heal. She didn't even keep medica 2 up.
Before that I noticed she was at 75% to my 33%.
I assure you, i used aetherflow, energy drain, and ethers.
That WHM was literally being a jerk to me.
Her excuse was 'I'm not going to use MP when everyone was at full HP'.
This is T2 enrage. That never happens, I rouse->whispering dawn, which is only 1/3rd of the time.
A SCH should never have to make up for a WHM in AOE healing... ESPECIALLY NOT ON T2 ENRAGE MODE!
Recently had my first run in Cutter's Cry, which is what prompted my memory of this thread. Here are 3 tales of healing fails:
My bad:
Queued for Low Level DR, and up pops Cutter's Cry...which I didn't realize I had already unlocked, so I hadn't watched any videos, read any strategy guides, nada. I also had forgotten to repair my gear before the run, and had also completely forgotten that I had recently acquired Regen. Bad news bears.
I told the group I was new, and off we went. I started to get a little worried somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd pull, when my heals weren't restoring as much HP as I'm used to seeing. We hit the first boss, and the wipes began. After about 5 or 6 wipes -- which I'm pretty sure were primarily my fault -- the tank and summoner (bless their hearts) managed to finish it off alone while the other DPS and I were down. We got to the second boss, and someone said it was much easier than the first...which made me feel even worse when I again got repeatedly destroyed, and eventually ran out of mana. By the time we hit the last boss, I felt so horrible that I tried to volunteer to leave & eat the lockout penalty so they could find someone who was less of a moron. Around 5 wipes later, I ate a blue attack and a violet attack in quick succession, and died while trying to keep myself & the other DPS alive. The tank and summoner were again left to themselves, and proceeded to finish the boss while I watched, cheered, and thanked them profusely.
So many jumps into the Shifting Sands, so much running to link back up with the group, so much staring in horror at HP bars draining to zero. Ughhhhhhh. Promptly repaired & upgraded my gear & read about 20 strategy guides. I'll get you next time, you nasty sand cave, you.
Tank's bad:
A few days later, I jumped into Brayflox in DF because it's one of my favorites, and I had never had a bad experience, despite the horror stories I had read on here. On the first pull, the tank never got aggro and I had to resort to popping Medicas to keep the group alive. After round 1, I decided to just skip trying to cure normally, and started to preemptively shoot off a cure II as the 2nd pull started (bad bad bad). While the timer is going, the tank takes 2 hits (one from each monster) and promptly dies. One DPS quits, and the other goes down with me shortly after the tank. Tank thankfully quits after that, and the remaining DPS and I bailed shortly after. Queued up again 15 minutes later & had a perfect trip (I still <3 you Brayflox).
DPS's bad:
Trusty DR pulled up the "More than a Feeler" guildhest. The 2 DPS (who I suspect were new) decided to ignore the advice of the wise NPC dude AND the advice of the tank & myself, and solely targeted the boss while completely ignoring the bubbles. I started to try to DPS as many of the bubbles as possible while healing, but they all started to pop, and it all went to hell in a handbasket. After I went down twice in a spam of Esuna with 10+ poisons stacked on me, I decided to quit -- only time I've ever been the first to bail on a duty. Got the same hest the next day, and it was so easy that the tank said "so booooring" 3/4 of the way through.
Despite the horror stories, I have to say I love healing so far -- dancing the line between exercising restraint and going all-out is really a blast!
I absolutely hate that guildhest, precisely because no one ever follows directions and everyone just decides to burn the boss, which inevitably turns out horribly. My last attempt resulted in a number of wipes before I ended up kiting the adds (using swiftcast + cure II or regen as needed, I don't remember which) while everyone else focused the boss down. That was so much easier, and what I will be doing in the future if the situation presents itself.
