Hell if I know, the only thing I remember about that game involved me ragequiting when I ended up using all my potions on a battle that, it turned out, I was supposed to lose only to be thrown into the "real" boss battle right after.

Stuff like that in general bug me. If I'm supposed to actively lose, you better damn well tell me, especially if consumables are on the line. Either say it, or make it blatantly obvious I'm not supposed to win (AKA, boss healing to full after every attack, boss decides to just oneshot people/party). If I have to let myself die on a hunch, it's a problem.
OH yes, and FF has done such battles right in the past including in this game. IX for instance had Beatrice who you would always end up losing too, BUT you could steal stuff from her so trying to get to her hidden timer ending was preferable to try and get her stuff. Meanwhile here in XIV we've had A.) Zenos's health bar barely moving while we took a lot of damage from the unavoidable attacks, and B.) Right before Ifrit the endless reinforcments before being put to cutscene sleep (seriously best use of CC in the game.)
I could have just reset the save but that game was just a chore to play anyways...also this opinion isn't exactly unpopular so whoops.
Indeed...I have to add in that Beatrix also didn't draw out the battle, either. Unless you were already low on supplies trying to get to this fight, she would end it pretty fast in a boss fight, compared to many of the other boss fights you had. That said, she definitely will kill you if you slack. God, I miss that fight...the whole setup was perfect in that, yes, you were now fighting out of your element against someone superior to you.
Mhm, I always preferred fights you were supposed to lose but could win anyway if you were overleveled/geared to get a little extra goodie. Even if it's just the bad guy sweating and panting in the cutscene afterwards, I like a bit of acknowledgement.
If it's clear that what you do is meant to be entirely pointless for the sake of showing the enemy off, honestly, I just roll over, attack my own allies, whatever. And then get frustrated because you were supposed to lose, but you weren't supposed to lose that fast and need to do it all over again >_>
Zenos's fights were particularly annoying since, as a SCH with decent resource management, I dragged those fights out way beyond what I assume SE intended. The fact there was no goodie for timing him out verses the curbstomp was a disappointment, for sure.
I mean, change his dialogue a bit or something.
Thats the beauty of Beatrix's first fight, it ISN'T clear that you are supposed to lose initially but it also doesn't pull on your resources too much. The second fight works well as well even though one might expect it at that point. The ball was dropped on the third one since she switches sides afterwards but it was also much shorter atleast. Also dropped in that on the NA version her attacks were bugged when you could use em making her "insta defeat you' ones literally tickle enemies.
However I do also enjoy battles that you aren't supposed to win but manage to anyways (Like Leon in the first KH) but there is a degree of story and gameplay seperation when one wants to tell a story in a certain way. Forcing a player to lose will always rub off worse for some compared to the hero losing in a book or movie.
I'm pretty sure both Zenos fights that you lose story-wise are always at the scripted point, atleast I lost at the same point on my RDM as I did on my alts SAM despite having less healing options for the latter.
I felt more like I timed him out than hit some sort of sweet spot in his HP, and genuinely felt like I could've kept dragging on to a win by attrition.
(But I was also recovering from some surgery at home during the launch weeks of Stormblood, so it may not have been as long as I recall, but the amount of time it took and the win forced away from me was my take on both fights.)
I think small house basements are too big. I would prefer an attic instead.
I don't like the way common looking things are rare and pricey. A simple skirt or a common stove for my house both cost more than a house. Flaming swords and rare furniture should cost alot of money, not a simple tatami mat.
I was very disappointed I will not be able to get the songbird emote this year. I know they have added these kinds of things to Mog station before but after seeing how much the maid outfits cost, I am terrified this emote is gonna cost more than my sub does! :)
I really want the glowstick emotes though.
It'll be available.

My unpopular opinions:
1. Most of the community is pve orientated, but I love pvp, and I wish there were more pvp options. (Although, every time we get a new map (once in a blue moon), PVErs always harp on about it being a waste of resources).
2. There should be more incentive for chocobo races. I have a max stat P9, 300 rating racing chocobo and nobody is here to race me! I literally spent over 1mil MGP on it!
They should probably dial back the delay it takes to switch lanes and jump, to make it more appealing for those who could never be bothered to learn how it works.
3. Bring out more commendation rewards. I am just stealing commendations that could go to other people's achievements at this stage.
I empathize. I see a lot of non-raiders call Ultimate, and some even going so far as savage, "a waste of resources." I've seen glam log called "waste of resources", countless qol additions are "wastes of resources". Especially when the people calling these things a waste of resources can only say they want the specific part of this themepark that caters to them to have more resources poured into it.
I find it really disappointing that despite their popularity, 9 out of 10 Au Ra girls use the same 5 or so peachy, caucasian looking skin tones when SE overloaded the race with a veritable rainbow of color options not available on any other race.
This is also an issue with Duskwights, Moonkeepers, and all Roes, but it's so much more pointed on Au Ra as they have so few human-like skin tones, but despite being scaled, horned, lizard-y monster girls, they need to being as human-like as possible.
/facepalm
Edit to add: This curiously is less common on MALE Au Ra, but not by much. I can't even count how many blue Xeala players I've met...
Well, in fairness: It's very hard to work with the scales.
They aren't jet black, they are blue-ish, which means that blue-ish skin colors are the only ones that really go well with them. Everything else just looks weird in one way or the other. I personally settled on purple in order to get a bit of warmth into the color palette without sacrificng the scale compatibility but it was an ordeal to find a nice hue.
It's a bit better with Raen, they can use the warmer colors without looking entirely weird. My own Raen is pale like a ghost, but I quite like the contrast a tan can provide.
I don't know, I've seen a number of gorgeous Xaela girls who dipped into the "stranger" skin tones a la green or other such not-so-common shades. It is a bit meh that female Xaela scales have that weird bluish tone to them that the men don't possess, but it isn't so noticeable (especially when you aren't right up in their face) as to make any sort of non-pale or non-blue/purple tone look weird. You'd be very surprised how pretty someone can make a Xaela girl in the green spectrum.
Raen are similar in that regard, as I've seen a good number of not-pale Raen who made a skin tone work with the (admittedly sickly-ivory) color of their scales. It's really just about experimenting in the character creator and not being afraid to go out of the box a bit.
I'd have preferred it for two reasons.
It's consistent, I understand there has to be some gameplay and story segregation but I'd prefer as little as possible. RDM and SAM start at 50 purely for gameplay reasons.
And two, I wanted to see the class/job system expanded rather than scrapped. I could get really into it, but it's not the thread for it ;) .
I don't like naked female glam. Or even naked front, like Lyse (for me she should close her dress). Showing underpants is a no-no to me and armorkini is disgusting. The same goes to naked or half-naked male characters.
Once, I gone to YouTube to see some WHM solo clear (as I love to solo content). But when I saw that the character (a fem miqo'te) was using only bikini, I felt bad for her (and disgusted from that youtuber). The primal he was soloing? Shiva EX. I couldn't watch even 10 seconds.
I've actually been every race in the game multiple times at this point, but when the Au Ra race launched, I went straight for a plum skintone on Xeala. Later I swapped to deep green. Further later I tried out a lavender skinned Raen.
So yes. I really love the face linked to the crab claw looking horns, too.
Atleast for myself its because prior to changing to a Xaela I had made my character based on one from another series (easy points to those who know said series). I've actually been debating a name change because the character literally acts nothing like them in my head, though it would be slightly based on a different series so probably wouldn't fantasia to a different skin tone. Not an expy atleast though.
As for more opinions!: I don't think that just because someone uses a name from a different series has a bad imagination, they just felt like it/it was on their brain at the time. That said people who complain that the name they want from another series is taken, more so ones that are popular characters, are kinda idiots.
Some more opinions that may cause some players an aneurysm (trigger warning!)
The concept of the cross-class system was much more interesting than role abilities (saying nothing of execution). Also, role abilities have pretty much failed at what they were supposed to be, since they’re literally the exact same as the cross class system but without the need to spend a short amount of time on another job.
They should really separate classes/jobs that shouldn’t have been paired in the first place because of the differences in identity, purpose and general aesthetic (Ranger/Bard, Summoner/Scholar).
The ‘eastern Samurai aesthetic’ that they keep using to design gear for all jobs (particularly tomestone gear) is so boring and uninspired.
The game desperately needs the addition of secondary mechanics to dps such as healing requirements, debuff abilities, actual GCD support abilities, along with actual mechanics for them to make using them fun and exciting. Also, fights (especially raid fights like savage) should be designed to require most strategy than ‘listen to someone on a third-party voice communication program call out what’s coming next’. I’m not saying the entirety of every fight should be totally randomised, but there should be more to them than a ‘conveyer belt’ of predictable mechanics that either one-shot you or don’t do enough damage to be worth dealing with.
Like, if your party made good use of certain buff and debuff abilities, you could survive X attack. But another party could instead focus on passing it through sheer healing power. Party 3 could have better gear than party 1&2, so they aren’t as at risk and can simply use mitigation to pass the mechanics (e.g Succor, Divine Veil, w/e)
Opinion, no worries. I mean, the toon you play is the one YOU have to stare at for countless hours, not me, and I'm the type who get's bored fast and changes often. I'm coming from the position of a player that wants to try everything and get's annoyed the moment I resemble another player's toon.
I think if I could even call it a "problem," it comes more to the fact that Auri toons have fewer human-like skin tone options, coupled with how popular two faces are, you end up with more "twins" in the world.
So it's both being disappointed other players ignore my favorite quality of the race, and my personal pet peeve of being "samey." (My current highlander self was to mess with my lalafellin bond partner. Big Wife.)
