"YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO PLAY! IT'S MY MONEY! YOU'RE NOT MY REAL DAD!!!11!!1!!!!"
Ran a fc healer through brayflox reg. Me as war, random dps (drg synched 59, and mch) drg wasn't using heavy thrust. .. at all, popping keen flurry on cooldown. Mch not using any ammo or hot shot. Painful painful painful run
The irony of a DPS telling a healer to DPS is... stunning. A healer should never need to DPS, and if there's a DPS check the party can't meet, it's on the DPS. Exception being when the party can't meet a DPS check due to DPS dying from too much unavoidable damage and too little healing.
I find it annoying how a good player is only considered as such when they do something that their job is not designed to do. When I was leveling THM/BLM, the majority of the comms I got were not because I did well as a DPS, but because I stepped in to serve as a backup tank or healer, or put mobs to sleep, or basically did a ton of other things that had nothing to do with my primary job, which was to DPS.
Which is why it's nice whenever I get comms as BLM in Expert roulette, where I'm not tanking or healing, simply blasting through the dungeon in less than 20 minutes. Why can't people comm healers for good healing and not for DPSing, why can't people comm DPS for good DPS and not for tanking/healing?
Yeah. There's definitely been a bit of a shift on healers. That's mostly due to higher ilvls. More tank hp, higher hitting heals. Healers in expert dungeon barely have to heal at all anymore, so... yeah might as well be a third dps, otherwise you're just standing around for 80% of the run
Because, unless you're solo healing a difficult 8 person instance or the rest of your group is absolutely awful, there are no opportunities for good healing without DPS in this game. In most scenarios, good healing is keeping up with healing requirements (= healing as little as possible while keeping everyone alive) and reacting fast to possible mistakes of others (deaths etc.) while keeping up respectable DPS numbers. It's just how the jobs and fights work in this game.
Well I think it is mainly because the level 60 dungeons are just so easy to heal for most players because you over gear them very quickly (or if you kept up with the item level from the last patch then you immediately over gear it) since SE makes the new dungeons item level lower to include everyone even if they didn't cap their item level the patch before. I wish they could make the dungeons more difficult to heal, but I doubt this will change because they tune the dungeons so that people can go in even if they are a bit behind in gear.
I think some players who don't play healer don't realize there is a huge difference between DPSing as a healer in level 60 content versus DPSing as a healer in any content that is sync'd below 50. I've seen people go off on healers not DPSing in some low level content and the things they say I KNOW they do not know what the difference is. The MNK in my story is a good example, he expected me to be able to DPS a lot (in one of the hardest level brackets to DPS as a healer) alongside a tank not holding hate to boot.
The dungeons level 32-41 are the hardest to add healer DPS in compared to other levels from a WHM perspective (AST has Essential Dignity at level 15 and SCH has the fairy so their utility is a bit better at lower levels than WHM). There is a spike in how much damage the trash mobs do in those dungeons once you hit Brayflox and you lack the higher level abilities, like emergency instant heals, that help you DPS safely without people accidentally dying.
A few reasons why it is not the same:
In level 60 content you can out gear it quite high above the minimum.
Some of the level 50 dungeons also have quite high gaps in min and max ilevel but some do not so there is varying difficulties there. In dungeons from 15-49 you can't out gear it much at all due to the fact that your item level goes up very slowly. You get about one more item level per level you gain. Compare this to Neverreap for example the minimum item level is i145 but it sync's to i210 - that is a big 65 item level difference. This massive difference in character power does not happen in content below 50.
You lack the extra abilities to DPS as safely as you do in level 60 content.
So not only are you not as overpowered you also lack abilities that can make DPSing as a healer much easier and safer. You don't have your "OMG tank is at 100 HP" emergency Benediction or Tetragammaton. You don't have Regen in content below level 35. You don't have Divine Seal until level 40. You don't have Asylum for extra regen while you DPS and you don't have Holy stun mitigation until level 45.
MP management becomes more of an issue in some cases.
Aurum Vale for example. You are sync to 49 well that's great you have Holy for this dungeon, but you likely cannot cast it more than 2-3 times because you don't have the inflated MP of higher item levels like you do at 50 or 60 so you are extremely limited how much DPS you can add before running out. Any healer knows running completely out of MP is a no-no because you never know when someone might accidentally pull a whole other group and then you have no MP to heal the damage because you decided not to bother managing your MP.
Some lowest level dungeons are pretty easy heal and add DPS despite all this since they are introductory dungeons and do not have very high hitting trash mobs, but as you get higher to the Haukke Manor and beyond dungeons it gets more difficult to do both easily. Also has a lot to do with the tank's ability to keep hate on everything and use cooldowns which when it comes to leveling dungeons you often get new players so expecting a lot of DPS from a healer in 15-49...well you might want to look to see what the tank is doing, how much damage people are taking, and if the healer is new also before judging them about it. (General statement; not towards anyone in here)
Don't get me wrong, I DPS quite a bit as a healer myself, and I don't mind if a healer wants to DPS. But I'm truly frustrated when, as a tank or DPS, I come across a healer who's too focused on DPSing to actually heal. And I come across so many of these "healers" that I'd say the problem lies in the gameplay design that encourages healers to focus on DPSing above all else. I really wish it would change.
In A12 on BLM, I got a lot of laughter and four comms for catching the maintank off-guard and stealing aggro with my opener before the first tankbuster was out. While the healers scratched me off the ground giggling about what happened, the maintank apologized to me with "Sorry, I totally expected you all to be shitty". I can't stop laughing myself about this, I never gained aggro although I used Quelling Strikes and had a competent tank with me :D
I was doing expert and was happy that I got uh... the garuda one (I'll edit the name in later), because that is my preferred one of the two. I had a good group we were plowing through the mobs and doing big pulls and I had no issue spamming some holys and the bard even did ballad after pulls so my mp was back up! <3 So we get to the first boss and I have a power flicker and everything resets and of course I am kicked off. I am EXTREMELY pissed because I was enjoying the run and I didn't want to queue again. Get everything back up wait for my ps4 to do it's restoring thing after an improper shutdown and then log in. I am still in the dungeon! Party is like.. oh.. you're back! We didn't even notice you were gone. I'm like how could you not? But they were able to kill boss and mobs without me and without dying. They were at second boss and we continued. I was sooooo happy and I thank them for not kicking me and I even got 2 commendations! Really great group and nicest players ever. I wish I remembered their names because I would give them a shout out for being awesome. Gotta love runs like those!
There was a Ninja in Sophia ex earlier who was using the ilvl 175 Bismark daggers and boisterously bragging about having the highest DPS. I don't parse and never have so I'm not sure what anyone was hitting for, but I'm pretty sure he was just going off the aggro table which he was #3 on the whole time. I was #5 though and didn't budge at all when my deathflare hit for 12k. I know SMN's are naturally going to be lower because our pet has separate damage values, but the table still really confuses me sometimes.
I really wanted to tell him to equip his normal weapons but I was afraid of being rude and we ended up abandoning anyways.
Got into Sophia NM via Roulette Trial just now. We wiped once, would have been able to clear but everyone else suddenly fell from the last tipping. The others had no problem retrying, except this other WAR from Ragnarok (Thanks lodestone) who looked like some sort of (O The Irony) SJW Aura with deep pink hair and face that doesn't like to be assumed their races made some sarcastic remark then went DC on purpose. The 7 of us did the job and just went melee wanted to LB, s/he came back and we lost the bar. Healer ress them but refused it—twice. There were no angry remarks from anyone whatsoever after we cleared it.
I'm a bit upset the rest of us literally carried a scrub and would like to take a jab at this tank who isn't so happy their trial roulette wasn't Ifrit HM and it didn't went well the first time but I remembered I am a gentleman and does not engage in online argument and it's 3am omgineed2sleep so I vent here instead.
I totally have to create a character in your datacenter just to meet Selli :D
Done that before (it was accidental / a brain-fart, but still)...
Context: I was queued into Copperbell normal to try to get back into the swing of things on WAR, and one of the DPS was a newbie ACN with there shiny new yellow rat. At first I went back and forth mentally about whether to tell them to switch pet or to see how things went. I chose the latter and things were mostly okay. At one point though, the arcanist wandered off to solo some mobs on their own and tankbuncle died, but they never got around to resummoning.
We get to the outside the final boss room, and I decide it's time to get the ACN on the right track. In the chatbox, I type:
"Topaz plz"
Diligently, the arcanist begins the cast, but even before I see the swirling rocks, I'm mentally facepalming so hard. "Sorry, the green one", I correct. Considering gem type is right there on the pet's nameplate and I main summoner, I really ought to have said it right the first time (then again, I haven't been able to use either carbuncle for three years by this point) :/
Thats funny cus i had the same issue in A11 yesterday. I went in as a DRG while my FC mate went in with me as AST.
There were 2 dark knights in the party and was a smooth start until the main tank died pretty quickly at the start (I never saw what actually happened. I only knew something was wrong when the boss started turning to party)
Other tank tried to grab aggro... that is for a minute until the boss turned to party again. Look up to see the other tank was in midst of raise while the other tank was number 4 in aggro.
Ok... so who have the aggro? I saw that it was me.
NAW NAW NAW :O
I turned the boss away from the party, put up keen flurry and foresight, pray for the best.
The cleaving comes (I think its called limit cut?) and behold i am still alive XD
I swear i stopped attacking the boss for tanks to grab aggro back but they couldn't for some reason.
I became a temporary tank until the adds spawn. It was fun tho XD
Just find the 80 floor boss of PoD is too huge. The mechanic is not complex really, but sometimes I can't get out of the round AOE because from certain perspectives it's hard to see its edge.
When I play as tank, the whole sight is even more incredible...what's the bullshit am I fighting? It's just like tons of clouds covering my screen.
I don't think there really are split sides. She is a lovely person and nice to everyone, in the forums and ingame. Don't have to be a Selli-fanboi/gurl to realize that, it's a fact. The only thing that goes on here is that some players genuinely ask why she got such a drastic ban, while others jump inmediatly to her defense, as if Selli was something chaste to protect from a player's corrupted and doubtful mind. And I'm not going against her, don't misunderstand me. But I do understand that obviously we don't know "both sides of the story" and therefore shouldn't cast a veredict, neither positive nor negative. In my opinion, we all should just leave it at that, whatever happened is between Selli and SE, there is no need to jump "sides". Also the sig thingy with #getSelliback2016 imo is a bit over the top but whatever lol, that is just my opinion. I do miss her, I've met her on FB and she is very nice to chat with, and her posts here were always very entertaining and cheering.
I hope I didn't trigger anyone with this >_>
I noticed people including her in their sigs and not seeing her around. I never meant to bring any drama or anything up, I genuinely had no idea what happened to her since it all happened when I was on hiatus. It really does suck though. She made me laugh a lot.
I had been wondering for a while too, allways enjoyed her posts.
I agree we dont know what happened I read the forums too irregular for me to have been around when the ban happened. No matter what, noone should get a permanent ban just like that. No matter what happened a warning should allways come first. Everyone can make a post that they whish they didnt.
Floor 61-70 of Palace of the Dead. I notice a monk either standing at the landing point or standing in the cairn of passage. Sometimes they come join the fight, but not often. I ask if they are okay. They said they were but that they were "multitasking." I'm not sure if this meant multiboxing, or trying to take care of stuff outside the game while in the game. I was tempted to just stand around with him until he actually contributed, but I'm not the type. But seriously, either focus on the dungeon or finish up what you are doing before joining. I get that people have lives, jobs, and kids. But that's no reason to basically want to be carried.
So, I just had a pretty bad run in T7 (the one with petrification mechanics, where you have to look away from the group), and a decent bit of it was my fault. Context: I'm not 60 yet. I've been using PF to clear Coils unsynced advertising Bonus for a Clear Party. Worked well so far.
I watched a video before doing this fight, read a guide, the whole deal. I prep all fights, this one being no different. We get in, and the first attempt is...rocky. People getting turned to stone everywhere, nothing is going right. This repeats a few times. I keep getting turned to stone by cones, and it's pretty awful. I'm getting VERY frustrated, because I keep turning my AoE outside the area and keep getting hit by people not bothering. What I only realized after the fact was: in my frustration, I started tilting and playing worse and worse. I could NOT handle the adds, I was probably the worst OT these guys had seen in a long time. At the time, I blamed it on me being sub-60 and doing basically no damage in comparison, but it was me being terrible. I know that now.
Eventually, the synced MT tells me to MT. I go for it, and MT the boss. Goes fine... until I get turned to stone by another cone. And another. And another. Somebody just could NOT be bothered to deal with the mechanic. Eventually, someone in the group started calling out the people screwing it up by name. Until that point, it had been reminders to the group as a whole, but that only goes so far. The power of public humiliation did get people to stop fucking it up. Turns out, at least one didn't actually know how it worked. They thought they did, but were apparently wrong, and couldn't get it figured out from the chat reminders. We finally got the clear, but it was not pretty. Not even a little bit. And I realized after calming down just how bad I was making it early on with my terrible off-tanking.
To everyone who was in that run, I am so sorry. That was probably the worst I have personally performed in a long time. I'm sorry you had to deal with it.
I didnt heal the tank cuse i said "im a dps healer so let my regen help you thru this dungeon" and he was mad bcuse i didnt overheal him with cures everytime he looses 5% of his hp:) so i ignored him and assized everything
She probably has telepathic abilities, to be honest.
She does do a lot of Mentor Roulettes... I'm honestly kind of surprised none of you have run into her while she's grumpy.
She basically got a 10-day suspension for swearing and being a bad influence on the community. She replied to a post in here, really upset that the person who posted it was treated so poorly and encouraged them to report the players. She got pretty passionate in the post and let drop a couple of swears. After the post had been up for a week, she got suspended for it. She waited out the suspension, but at the end of it she was met with a perma-ban. The reason why she got perma-banned was because she already had a 10-day suspension from when she first joined the forums (again for swearing/bad influence) which was back in 2015. It seems that since the 10-day suspension is the max punishment, any other suspensions coupled with that is a perma-ban. So she's actually got to fight both suspensions to get her account back, which she has been trying to do since she was banned but no luck. As for the #GetSelliBack2016 someone posted it as a way to show support/we miss you, that's how I viewed it anyway and why I think it caught on.

I think I missed a couple other replies (multi-quoting is really awkward), but I'm glad so many of you enjoy running into my girlfriend and miss her sassy posts. She misses you all very much and she says hello and wishes you all good luck in your duties.
Now to avoid being totally off-topic: I did expert today with the FC. It was Xelphatol and it was going pretty smooth until we got to the elevators and one of the DPS locked out our healer while she was opening the treasure coffer. Fun fact, did you know that there's a second elevator that goes down as the main one goes up? Because I didn't. And I went to send the first elevator down (like you do in Copperbell) only to get sucked in and sent down while our healer went up.
Just now in the expert roulette, tank pulled the boss next to me and let its AOE face to my ley lines...I wanted to kill him.
Been doing BismarkEX for the bird mount for a good while, decided to just do a long farm and get it, whether it be through drop or the totems. Had a great farming party that replaced a few times, and I have considerably terrible rolls(30-55). When I got 84 Totems, I said, "F*ck it! I'm getting it with totems!" So there were a few people left in the farm who still needed the whistle, and I passed on it for them. The "last" person got their mount on my 97th totem drop. We ran it two more time, and got my 99th totem...AND WHISTLE DROP!!! ON MY 99TH TOTEM, IT DROPS THE GOD FORSAKEN WHISTLE!!! I literally didn't know where to kill something, cry in a corner, or what, but RNGesus was sadistic tonight.
I guess lately I attract trolls...or DF is just being really bad lately...
Got Brayflox Normal in Leveling roulette with a DRK tank this time.
Right away something seemed off as they barely waited for Protect and then used sprint and ran off to pull two sets of mobs. This would be totally acceptable except they didn't use Grit...
They took a lot of damage at first so I started to heal, but of course no Grit I pulled hate on one mob after one Cure. I kept trying to Cure but by the second Cure I had hate on two mobs so now I am getting smacked pretty badly. I tried to keep everyone alive including myself but having to chug even more cures on myself to live I just kept getting more and more hate so I die first and we wipe.
We respawn and it goes basically like this...
Me: If you are going to multipull you really have to use Grit
Me: You were unable to keep hate off of my heals
DRK: Understood
At first I was like ok they understand (they weren't new btw their DRK was level 40, and they also have 3 other jobs at 60, so I was hopeful they just forgot it), but...tank starts moving ahead again still no Grit on so I ask again...
Me: Turn Grit on
At this point the DRK then uses Grit.............then turns it back off
Me: You have to keep the buff on it is a tanking buff it helps you hold hate
DRK: i don't need it
(sigh...why me?)
Me: You do need it
DRK: nope
Me: You aren't holding hate because you aren't using it (this was during a single pull where I had hate on 1/2 of the mobs and my last ditch attempt to make them understand)
Silence after this he just kept going to get the longstop gatekey with no Grit still. Next pull is 3 mobs and so since he refused to listen and I refused to eat a lockout because of this I just decided well even if he isn't doing his job I'll do mine. I healed plus DPS'd when I could but again I got hate on two out of three and the more I had to heal myself the more hate I got so I ended up having all 3 on me and I died and we wiped again.
After we died this time the tank left the instance and I was just like thank god...now that is over. So I told the group brb coming back on tank since I know they are hard to find sometimes and I left and rejoined on PLD and got my boyfriend to come heal and we had a nice smooth run with no issues and minus one fail troll who only ended up wasting their own time.
i know how you feel. I have been running Thordan Ex for the mount. Currently i have 50 fragments and during these 50 runs, i rolled 1 plenty of times. Seems people who died the most got the lanner whistle :C
There are days i like to crawl to the corner and cry cus RNG is so mean T_T
Me every time I try to tank anything in 24 man content:
- "Guess I'll try and grab a couple of these adds and pull them over-...nope? Other tank pulled them all off me? Okay well guess I just switch to my dps stance."
- "Hmmm, we've been sitting here for a while. Guess no one else wants to MT? Okay, I'll go ahead and pull. Let me try to position him corre- aaaaaand the other tank provoked off me. Wonder why they even waited long enough to let me pull. Guess I'll just switch to dps stance."
- "Oh no, the MT died! Time for me to throw on my tank stance and provoke! Alright, situation under control! Things seem to be going pretty smoothly, guess I'll just- oh...tank is back and provoked off of me for some reason. sigh, welp, dps stance it is."
To all you tanks who think you're the only competent one in the room? I hate you.
When I run it with my friends they know to pull the lever early while I deliberately lag behind so I can take the second lift. It catches a lot of people off guard. :D
Yeah, so when I MT and I die and the OT takes over, when I get revived I never take back the boss immediately because I have the weakness debuff now and therefore by definition am now the worse candidate for MT. So instead I do the OT job while I watch for trouble, ready to retake MT only if there's an emergency. I'm not really sure why you would want to do anything else.
A couple of minutes after I logged on the other day, an FC mate pops into leveling roulette. A couple of minutes after that, in FC chat, "Jhae, come tank my dungeon for me, please." So, I look at the roster and queue for Sastasha in prog. The healer is streaming video, and it's only been a couple of minutes, so it was either a knee jerk reaction to the streaming or because it was Sastasha. We had zero problems, and the thaumaturge sproutling was flinging Fire 2's and Ice 2's like a champ and things died super fast. I think the only reason the timer went past 20 minutes elapsed was because the healer was afk'd when I zoned in and we had to wait on him. Hope the other tank enjoyed his lockout.
