For the past 3 live letters I've been pointing out amongst my friends that we've not gotten a glimpse of prototypes of hairstyles for Hrothgar hair.

Every time there's a live letter, and they mention it, there's never a picture.

This last one, right before the patch, we see the previews of Hrothgar hair, and a brief explanation of why it looks so janky. Something something ears something something.

Honestly, if this is an April Fool's joke? It's masterful.

It is revolting even for me, a viera player. This kind of thing made me loose all the hope that one day, we will receive one hat, or the fantasia problem will be fixed for hrothgars. Well, F**** the TOS, the unique way to obtain what we want, we know. I feel sorry for PS players.

Another disappointed Hrothgar player making a acc here to add one more voice to the cause.

Hiding the ears was the most lazy and pointless thing the person responsible for these haircuts could do. The ears clipping through not only would look better aesthetic wise but also way more natural looking.

Now for the hairstyles themselves, taste is taste and everyone have their own but I wish they focused on the ones most races have in common. But I'll not gonna lie that most being emo looking hairstyles are a really bad choice imho, seems the person who were in charge of this particular project have zero knowledge and awareness about why we players who play as hrothgar prefer them as a race for our warriors of light.

- Hrothgar/Viera should have hat access without it looking like garbage, full stop
- Hrothgar shouldn't have to fantasia to change their hair, nor should the hair delete their ears.
- Should have as much access to everything else other races have. If that was never a possibility, neither should have been designed in the first place. But now that they are, the onus is on the company to actually make them on par with the others with regards to these customization options.

Minimum expectation-tier things from a AAA company with an incredibly successful MMO. Clearly a problem, a large complaint from the playerbase for years now, and it should be addressed even if solving the problem is difficult.

That's my player feedback.

does anyone have links to a source in the past live letters where they mentioned that race specific hairstyles were coming to Hroths and Viera? I remember hearing it in a LL but I can't remember which

I do recall them saying semi-recently that they were having to change some things about how Hrothgar are constructed to implement the additional hairstyles. That could be the "shifting ears from head model to hair model" thing that people are speculating here.

Ears DO NOT hide under the hair... these new hairstyles aren't good. I appreciate that clipping might have been the issue, but clipping is NEEDED to make these styles look right. If it can be done for Viera, it can be done for Hrothgar.

If this was an April Fools joke, then fair enough. But if this was the genuine end look....it needs to be reworked I'm sorry.

(Also Fantasia-ing just to change hairstyles isn't great.)

As a hrothgar player I got to say that I am severely disappointed. These new "hairstyles" just look lazily made and feel like the best Square is willing to do is crap on Hrothgar (and to some extend Viera) if they dare to ask for something. Certain hairstyles linked to certain faces is absolutely outrageous. Having to Fantasia to change your hair is a scam if everyone else can do it for almost free.
I really hope this is a joke or gets fixed until 6.1 or else I consider fantasiaing back to Miqo'te ... which will probably just makes Square even happier when the get more money from me ...

I was so excited about the new hairstyles and then they just remove the ears for no reason while still not adding the option to wear hats :(

I just started to level up a Dragoon as my new main physicial Class and it looks so sad without being able to wear the Dragoon-Helmets >-<

Given that we can't use non-default hair styles in the character creator, that would seem to be a hint that Hrothgar can finally change hair in-game.

Mind you, that still doesn't make this right. I mean, the bar for Hrothgar treatment was so low it was almost a tripping hazard in Hell, and they still found a way to make it look worse.

I believe that's exactly what it is. My guess is that these hairs can only be used on a new Hrothgar "head" for each face.

The hair update is so bad it looks like a joke. I can't believe they were being serious, it was laughably bad, but now I'm genuinely upset. Hrothgars need to use a Fantasia just to change hairstyles, can't wear hats, and lack basic customization. We were told back in 2019 that an update was coming, and then Covid happened so it was pushed back but we were reassured with the announcement of Endwalker that the update was still coming. I was expecting the default hairstyles would be available across all head models and would no longer require actual IRL $$ to change, and that would have been fine, at least a step in the right direction, maybe a new hairstyle or something? But this? This looks like awful photoshop and it just further isolates the Hrothgar race. The developers obviously have no interest in Hrothgars, they barely even showed up as NPCs in Endwalker, but this is just an insult. I cannot believe the same people who made this amazing game also spent time, money, and energy on this awful update. I have no words, just disappointment.

Looking at those new hairstyles made me have actual horrified goose bumps.

Cut off my ears? Well, yoshi you literally have no excuse to keep Hrothgar from wearing hats now. I still love my Hrothgar to death and willing to settle if I can wear hats since my ears are "hiding under them"

These are awesome! Even if isn't the same as others (like unlocking hairstyles) would be nice to have more than head-locked hairstyle.
I REALLY hope they postpone it. It's almost an offense to Hrothgar playerbase to be without ears. And the lack of hairstyles for both are also... sad.

It completely irks me that almost all youtubers are silent on this topic, and even even if they did cover it, they ignored all the issues. Why are they so scared to be honest? Why do they ignore all the game's flaws? The only one I've seen mention it was Zepla, and it was extremely brief.
The people that actually have a voice arent even using it.
The lack of acknowledgement from the community AND Square regarding this is very concerning.

I technically have a YouTube channel, but I feel like If I talk about it now then any additional info or added context for 6.1 release will then date the video. Speakers Network or Shenpai are usually the ones that would generally critique or mention the more technical faults of ffxiv such as limitations in character customization or the content segregation of Viera and Hrothgar from the rest.

Oh my goodness, just saw a vid with the "new" hroth hair, my heart broke and I don't even play one. It also makes me REALLY worried about fem hroth (which I had been looking forward to) being awful.

One of them is Cole Evyx. He's a Hrothgar player, and youtuber that covered the LL. He said nothing negative besides "Its not my style but other people will love it". He's delusional if he thinks we love it

Dev team needs to pick hairstyles that work around the head shape and ears of the Hrothgar. Shouldn't be too hard to do since there are a few hairstyles that are perfect for that.

The people here posting their own Hrothgar hairstyles look amazing and should he considered added into the game. I would wear most of them with my Hrothgar! :D

Hello everyone. I have renewed my subscription and come to see everyone's opinion on the new Hrothgar hairstyles and voice my own, needless to say I'm devistated. No surprise, this has caused an uproar amongst the community.

Just like everyone, I thought this was an April fool's joke. After the photos were shown, I waited for a "JUST KIDDING - here are the real photos" and when that never came, I was shocked.

To the certain group of people who preached "We dont need more race-exclusive hairstyles, I just want what everyone else has" Well... Here you go - this is what Square Enix can provide. Viera were lucky, we kept our ears. Hrothgar not so much. They waited 3+ years for this?

I thought above all Hrothgar would be the ones to get more race-exclusive hairstyles. I knew the majority of modern-aesthetics wouldn't suit Hrothgar at all, but I did not expect their ears to get removed in the process. The hairstyles they selected were very dissapointing, it really doesn't fit the "Hrothgar" aesthetic.

People can continue to scream unfairness at the thought of Viera/Hrothgar getting unqiue hairstyles, but unless SE remove headgear from the game entirely, or spend years fixing all hats/hairstyles PROPERLY to our heads (Which would take years), then I don't see a more fair compromise than giving us something to make up for the restrictions. "Fairness" is a two way-street, not when it's a convenience to you.

Remember guys; popular demand is what keeps winning. We were promised more race-exclusive hairstyles, this is what we need. If everyone's content with Karen hairstyles that only a few will actually wear, good on you - but I want Yoshi-P to keep his word. The limited races deserve better. (Unless Yoshi-P says the 2019 statement was a mistranslation, I'll continue to think otherwise)

I was one that wanted the hairstyles the other races have, but with ears of course. Once female hrothgars are released they will be able to use them as well, so the haren hairstyle and other feminine ones had to come because they would want to use them. I just expected the more masculine ones to come first. Hopefully by the time the next expansion will be released, viera and hrothgar will have access to all hairstyles in the game. And hopefully hrothgars get ears as well...

To be honest I don't really agree with this narrative spin that it's somehow the players own fault these are bad because "we asked for this". Players ask for many things every day and we've seen them reject or sometimes just not respond to plenty of them so it's not like they're completely at the mercy of the wants of the playerbase if they have something different in mind, people asked for these mythical race-exclusive hairstyles for a long time as well.

If they really had concrete plans for either of the races in terms of hairstyles they would've gone through with them or even talked about it again beyond that original possibly mistranslated/misunderstood statement. To me personally, the fact that it took until 6.0 for Viera to get something and 6.1 for Hrothgar makes me think they didn't have any solid plans for their hairstyles at all, shared or new.

This isn't on the players who maybe did or didn't ask for something.

They act like Hrothgar players have been screaming and throwing a tantrum for the last 2.5 years when all we've asked is for them to decouple the hairstyles we already have from the faces, so we could have some form of variety. I would rather have 1 unique hairstyle for Hrothgar for every 10 hairstyles added for other races because i prefer quality over quantity.

I'd rather listen to a popular content creator than a bunch of speculation on the forums. Here, she has actual proof and statements from Yoshi-P - like I said, unless he states it was a mistranslation, then this is what I'll believe.

Why else do you think the idea of race specific hair was scrapped? It's obviously to do with the outcry of people asking for the current hairstyles in the game instead.

Just a side note:
