Case in point, really.

What happens if SE takes this to heart and does this for legacy items, re-released as replicas, then vocal legacy players speak their displeasure with this as well? Are we not back to square one? Then it's even less about the "value" of the item or the memories that may have been incurred, but a status symbol that shouldn't be obtained "again" (since it was really just the same item, renamed). You cannot guarantee that no one will be upset over this solution, either. Despite, you know, this being a thing and why so much 'value' is being placed on something you cannot even own:
(Thanks again for posting the actual snip-it from the Terms of Service.)
I mean, that is pretty rich coming from you.
Our exchange was generally pretty normal and I was simply asking you questions in order to understand your point of view....quite civil really......until you got snide and passive aggressive with me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
When you make a blanket statement about something it can be hypocritical, I'm sorry that you didn't realize this. It has nothing to do with how others are behaving and I questioned you in my first reply which you could have answered, but you didn't. That is not my problem~ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You took that quote out of context. It was simply an explanation on why the argument of "grow up" is hypocritical. It doesn't reflect my personal opinions on this matter.
Unless you were just using it as a point to jump your thoughts off of, then I understand what you mean.
Well, unofficial sources have it that they changed the number of required tokens to 50 about a week ago. (was prev 10).
So there? Some quest/fate grind to do for an hr or so should suffice for us non-legacy players to get it, right? /s
I don't think Miste was picking on you, Nixxe.
I also understand the point of having something named as a replica.
It doesn't matter if I took it out its original context because I gave it a new context anyway. Especially since it was not the first time I had read "add replica to the name and it's fine." You just happened to be the last person I read at the time to mention this solution again, so I quoted you. Nor do I care about the grow up statement that was previously made. It was a legitimate question of where is the cut-off and is there a cut-off to begin with? I'm asking would simply adding "replica" to all legacy items actually stop the griping or would a new gripe begin once more legacy items were made available through these means.
I absolutely agree as a 1.0 player who stuck with game since 1.0 beta.. everything thing that meant something has slowly be trashed, watered down, sold for a quick buck. The 1.0 player base is frankly what kept this whole thing alive even after the servers went down twice(once for natural disaster and once for the ending of 1.0) I think this move along with others is wrong by hey that’s my 2cents and Gath’s Is worth more than mine.
Well..like I explained already if you were just quoting me to use it as a jump off point for your thoughts then that is fine?
If you reply to someone they are likely going to assume you are talking directly to them unless you split up your thoughts and/or explain otherwise.
Phone edit..

(1.0 forum joke). I think replicas would be more appropriate than the actual item though it is lazy.
Honestly by supporting a bad game for that long you only validated the ffxiv 1.0 mess for much longer then it should have lasted.
It was Yoshi P who saved 14 and if he feels it worthy to include a 1.0 item in this event then you really have no reason to complain and you also have been paying less for your sub the past 5 years which is more thanks then 1.0 players are deserved IMO.
It's also worth noting that no matter how flawed 1.0 may have been it did lay the groundwork for a lot of the neat stuff we see today. So there is indeed a good chance that the developers themselves may want to give current players a little taste of 1.0 in the form of the earrings. To my knowledge, we don't even know what the developers have planned for the seasonal event. They could have something special in store for us.
I may be wrong, but I believe some of the 1.0 developers still work on FFXIV to this day.
The White Ravens are completely unrelated to the Legacy Campaign.
Many people seem to be confusing these to belong together.
This isn't about legacy anything. It's simply about a raid reward that people got after completing the fight for the fights sake. The reward was not expected going into the fight, it was awarded for their accomplishments after the fact, not unlike how real medals are given out.
Thank you for your insight, but I obviously disagree. I didn’t see it as a bad game, I seen that it has some issues just like the start of XI. XIV had the great potential. I believed that it also could to have the same success as XI . Yoshida was able to work on the game to “improve” it but the players is what saved it by keeping the funds and the interest coming so that it could be worked on. It was those people who seen the potential of what the game could be and helped support/ save it. I believe if that interest was gone that we would have never seen the revision to 2.0.
As far as the sub , that in my opinion a thank you for saving the game just like our names in the credits.
If people can't do the content to get the reward, then they effectively have dead-weight status symbols laying around that some people appreciate the false scarcity of because they put value on it. They waited two full expansions and then some to basically unlock one earring model with only glamour value. You can easily see if someone is a legacy player or not and have their "fake Gucci bag" and not the real thing.
(Coming from someone else, but typed in fewer words ... and got tired of hearing my mechanical keyboard through my headset as I typed. >_>)
To which I really can't sympathise, since everyone can go back and do Coils unsync'd and (sans T9) easily claim the (irrelevant and pretty much only for desynthing now since there are dye-able replicas) rewards. This also includes the Final Witness title and the Louisoix minion.
It did rub me the wrong way for a short while, but then I stopped caring about it... because I've since done that with the HW Trials that I never did when they were released (also for the mounts), as well as The Manipulator Savage.
Simple solution:
Give people who got it an achievement. Then the earrings have no value beyond glamour. Furthermore, I think we need to be down to earth a bit here. Someone beating a boss from discontinued content 5 years ago should actually acknowledge "Hey, its a video game, thats just how it is". If you havent achieved any new accolades or what not since then, then I dunno what youre doing with your time. Yeah, the fight was probably difficult. But its been 5 years, the content is discontinued, its time to just let it be. No one is taking away your achievement. No one is making it worthless. You still played it. You still have the memories of it. Its not going anywhere.
Do you guys know why people won't answer whether or not they DESERVE this item despite the fact they did not DO the fight???
Because they know that the moment they say "no I do not deserve it" that the whole idea that these items should have been released in this event would have been silly.
They all try to conflate the issue with irrelevant details like "it doesn't matter earrings" or "the devs are free to do w.e they want despite community opinion."
In the end, they all know that they don't deserve it, they don't want to admit it because they don't want anyone to have anything that resembles a status symbol because it makes them feel bad. Makes me sad. :*(**
I've mentioned this several times and you keep ignoring it, every old content and every old event has had rewards made more accessible, we even have a lot of 1.x items currently available in the game. So tell me, why should these earrings be any different if they aren't even part of the legacy campaign?
Someone gave you a good answer before, that fight has an equivalent in T9 and T9 savage that many people cleared, and I'm using equivalent loosely here because as far as I know T9 was mechanically harder.
It's a rematch vs Darnus, and it's also higher difficulty.
People don't have access to the original fight either way so your argument is being sustained by nothing but memories.
Days later and the same person who can't take being told that they're wrong by multiple people is still trolling this thread with the same schtick.
/smh
This is getting silly. Whether we deserve them or not is quite frankly irrelevant and SE make that set in stone when they're the ones that dictate how they're handed out or not. Had they released the fight alongside this nobody would be complaining, or asking for them, and like I've said before, and I will iterate it again. We did not ask for this.
People are not arguing against these being handouts, but rather the mentality that many players are giving out with their comments.
Let me make it clear. Nobody asked for it, and the event has not even been released yet.
....You....WHAT!?
How is that even remotely something comparable. That's a horrible argument, please stop using it.
You can't compare a physical item that costs anywhere from $100 to $20,000 to a digital item that literally costs you nothing to get except maybe a $12 sub fee. (I don't know what the sub fee for 1.0 is, this is an estimate.)
Please, after 7 hours of customer service. My brain just can't. STAHP.
I'll be sure to notify the community that they are not allowed to complain about ANYTHING in this game because SE gonna do what SE gonna do. I hope for your sake you never complained about anything SE did otherwise that would be pretty hypocritical of you.
Buddy
This is also another example of people not saying whether or not they deserve it and inserting irrelevant details, keep em coming :>
UCoB wasn't removed from the game, Rivenroad was. If UCoB was a 5 year old fight and UwU was actually related to UCoB I would say yes, nothing wrong with the rewards being made available again.
Unlike you I'm not obsessed with timed exclusives and artificial scarcity, and I'm glad SE is agreeing, so you're on the losing side right now. I hope feast mounts are next in the list.
It's not the fact of people complaining or not, but you seem to be acting, or putting across as though we've had an option as to how we can obtain these. Like I said yesterday, nobody here has asked for them, let alone ask for them to be handouts. We never even made that choice. Let me make it clear, when I, or normal people complain, we generally complain about stuff that can change and can be implemented (If you said call them replicas or select an alternative then yes, granted you can have that and it'd be a valid and reasonable argument) . But saying nobody deserves them when the fight is not even in the game anymore, and probably was created on a different engine. Let me just go clear a fight that doesn't exist...
Friend
EDIT: I could create a poll, and have everyone in this thread and I would put significant stakes that the majority would say, we'd rather have the original fight, and participate on difficulty at the time, versus farming FATEs or doing a repeatable solo instance. I could guarantee that. Like I said whether we deserve them or not is irrelevant.
For all we know we will revisit that fight. Doubt it will be tough though. Didn't look hard to do the first time.
Oh you are so cute! :>
Has so much pride that they can't admit they don't deserve something and instead calls the person a troll.
You try really hard to avoid the question my friend, I admire the dedication, while I don't admire the motivation behind it.
You specifically made the claim that nothing matters cause SE is going to do what it wants, so yes you did say that people shouldn't complain before the mighty devs.
And the fact the fight doesn't exist anymore isn't relevant. The item was meant for people that cleared that fight and nothing else. A lot of people, including you, have a hard time of admitting that fact.
Well I'm glad we're finally getting somewhere, and yes specifically in relation to this topic because you're giving the tone that we actually want these as handouts. Know what's going to happen? People will complete this event, possibly grind it if they care enough, then those earrings will immediately go into someone's retainer to just be hoarded. I can assure you most people won't take pride in these earrings and they won't care very much for them.
Perhaps it isn't relevant, but you know what is? The fact that nobody in here lately has even complained about the means of getting them, just whether they stay exclusive, if you read the majority, or even a fraction of the comments it would be made pretty clear people have been arguing whether they should stay exclusive or not, and why promises get broken. Not how they should be achieved, or whether we deserve them for free or not. Granted your initial claim would actually hold some weight if people were complaining that we should get them for free. But nobody has, or those that have are in the minority.

For those who never got to play, or chose not to play, reasons don't matter. Might let you understand why some ppl feel the way they do, or might not. Either way, both series' are well compiled and executed.
She was actually based on a long-standing and still thriving role-play character (from IRC, not an MMO)...but this Soma obviously had to be tweaked a bit from the original Soma just a tad.
I don't role-play in XIV, but lots of my characters from MMO's come from the IRC stuff I've done in the past and present. :D :o
That's the smartest thing that poster has said so far. ;)
It's really baffling seeing some people obsess over timed exclusives as if they're the only meaningful things in their lives.
I bought both the Shiva and Odin statues purely for the emotes that came with them. I didn't do it for the sake of bragging rights, I did it because I thought they were neat and I happen to have a disposable income.
They set me back roughly £200. I've spent much more than that on cosmetics. The Mog Station could be updated tomorrow to sell the emotes for £5 and it wouldn't bother me. They could be added to the game as part of a quest reward and that wouldn't bother me either.
I feel the same way about anything I've earned in the game itself. I earn or buy things because I want to be able to enjoy them. If other people happen to be given easier access to the things I acquired then I consider that to be perfectly fine. In fact, I encourage it since it means that both friends and strangers alike are able to enjoy them as well.
The players who seem to only find enjoyment by denying others something neat are not the sort of players I want this game to cater to moving forward.
