Connecting the DoTs: A Summoner Guide

Just want to point out that SMN is arguably the best DPS for A1S. The mobility and constant multidotting really shines on that fight. Even without a NIN/BRD/AST I was sitting at around 1180+.

Melees have it the hardest on that fight in my opinion. Between having to dodge puddles, taking one add, dodging AOEs, it seems rough. BLM probably as well, still haven't tested it there.

That's what I figuired, but wasn't sure if for some reason SS added almost the same potency to our dots as det, and also gave us SS on casts.

I haven't ran in to a MP issue and I over spam R2. With all the down time in fights it's really not so far.

You keeping dots up on both operators? And are you saving anything for adds? In normal I used to multi dot but pugs became so unreliable I just saved everything to burn 2 adds myself.

1180 is very strong, do you have a parse screenshot of your kill?

Yes, you can and should. My noob SMN tips for A1, day 1 of course:

- Do a regular opener, not much need to save stuff here
- For the first adds, if SCH Banes you can just Bane and use pet AoE and any additional help will kill it, you don't have to Deathflare. That said, you can Deathflare and Fester the boss instead, but you'll screw with your 3D timers - this is the option I went for because it was quicker and more consistent but probably hurt my sustained.
- For the adds after you enter the split phase, you can Bane off of the boss, recommended to wait a second so the other person can pick up theirs first while receiving your Bane. To kill the adds themselves, Bane or just regular DoTing them + putting Garuda on Obey + one Fester is more than enough.
- After adds you just multi-DoT. I actually had trouble day 1 keeping a cycle of 3 stacks = 1 DWT, the phase shift and the need to use stacks as you need them can be tricky and I didn't pay as close attention as I could have.
- Keep up E4E, it's very helpful for this fight, it's a tough fight for the healers if the healers DPS + heal. You can Super-Virus the tank busters but depending on your strat only one Virus may be needed, and SCH can get them by himself.

All I got. I didn't clear with a great number cause I died and LB3ed but it's clearly a phenomenal fight for SMN. I have a hard time envisioning BLM doing the adds as efficiently without having someone else place the adds, not something I think we should be doing in our gear if they're DPSing.

Not sure how Savage will be for A1 but SMN should allow for one melee to stay on the boss the whole time.

Bane/Pain when adds spawn is instant aggro followed up by DF when in pos is usually instant death for both adds.

Kinda sorta. Yon't have such an incredibly large amount of time to solo two enemies and place them in a timely manner, it'd be risky. Do-able, but maybe not super consistent and a lot riskier than having a melee do it. For now that's something reserved for when we'd want to push DPS later on, personally.

You cant do that in savage. There are four meteors so each DPS must take one add. Or you can have one of the healers do it I guess but the fight is already very heal intensive.

What you want to do is have all dots >15 seconds when you go into DWT - this is impossible on 2 targets, so you'll want to dot one, DWT and tri-d the other, then spend every GCD on ruin III.

Any thoughts on Esoteric tomes purchases? How relevant do you guys think is weapon upgrade from Hive tome vs, Asuran Dogi of casting to Esoteric body?

What food is everyone using? so far Sohm Al Tart HQ myself.

Well Weapon Damage trumps everything still I think so the weapon would likely be your first purchase. I'm using Baked Pipira Pira HQ cause that crit (and more leeway with accuracy if I need it) but I was debating about the Sohm Al Tart HQ myself. Since it's such a lower level than the Baked Pipira Pira, I haven't figured out if it would be worth it.

Hoo boy A2 is tuned pretty tight. Hard fight! Wish I was a better SMN though, but it's kinda laid out when you wanna use your CDs.

Tips from noob A2 SMN:

- Don't use crap on first set except one Bane + Garuda AoE
- Second set I would spend 3D + Bane + Pain + DWT + Rouse + Spur + Enkindle + Deathflare
- 3rd set, Shadow Flare as they get grouped up, then DoT + Contagion + Bane. Could save stuff for here but prefer it on wave 4.
- 4th set, DWT + full AoE.
- 5th set is where the DPS check of sorts comes into play. You have to kill the soldiers in a somewhat timely manner but not really if they just get stunned later than sooner. I would do a full set on the big tanks, then when they're grouped Bane off the little guys (the hitbox for big guy > little is terrible), then get a RS + DWT 3D on tank and Bane/Deathflare. Good DPS should have the second tank at 50% or lower before next phase if you yourself do it right.
- 6th set, you can Bane off the big tank unto the Hardhat if it gets pulled in, set Hard on Obey, then multi-DoT the other set. Save some stuff for next phase, that's the DPS check of the fight besides enrage.
- 7th set, get them all grouped up, RS + DWT + Contagion + everything you possibly have except LB. Goal is 2 down by next phase, 3 with a better comp/gear than us.
- 8th set, just multi-DoT here, it's a lax phase, just Obey the Hards and then multi during offtime rather than Ruins.
- 9th set ... hoo boy. You will be LB2ing here in current gear, this is without question. Get a full RS + DWT + Contagion Bane off with a Deathflare, then BE CAREFUL of the AoE, it will oneshot you if you LB2 during it and you don't dodge (I found this out 2X, much sadness, seems to pick caster I swear). Otherwise all you got.

3D seems best for refresh during 5 stack + Bane, probably a better use than saving 3D for DWT or anything like that. Hard freakin' turn. Good luck, fellow SMNs.

Edit: 521 ACC produced zero misses, which is pretty low ACC IMO.

I wish I can provide a parse but I'm a PS4 player. In A1 Savage I did 1300 on Faust was was doing 1100 on Oppressor on average. I am using Sohm Al Tart HQ. My rotation below:

Bio II > Miasma > Bio > Painflare + Fester > Ruin II > Swiftcast > Shadowflare > Rouse + Spur > Ruin II > Enkindle + Fester > Ruin II > Aetherflow > Ruin II + Xpot > Dreadwyrm Trance + Raging Strikes + Tri-Disaster > Miasma II + Contagion > Fester > Ruin III x3 > Fester + Deathflare

Any thoughts? I know it's far from optimized.

I'd just give the melee who picked the other one about 2s before I Baned. Worked every time. I think your partner's just being slow unless you were jumping the gun.

He was, but I didn't really feel like arguing since I just wanted the clear and the dps loss is kind of small so w/e. I will do it next week and hopefully not get mini'd again.

We didn't get to kill it on the first night (tonight). Our DPS comp is DRG, SMN, BLM, BRD, so no Trick Attack :(

DPS will drop by quite a bit since you will kill it right after the 3rd jump(lots of downtime). I can see 1.15k being possible with BRD/NIN and perfect rotation throughout the fight. SMN is definitely king there.

Yeah and next time I'll make sure to keep my dots up on the other oppressor.

I did 1600+ on faust and 970ish on the oppressor with a death, gave it 2-3 hours of tries and got it to enrage but not a kill sadly, I think I can do higher today.

Was at 1160ish before Mini. No BRD/NIN. I think 1.2k is definitely possible without any mess ups and having Bard & Nin.

I think I need a bit of help, since the SMN priority system seems to have changed quite a bit. You guys are regularly parsing over 1100 on a dummy, but I'm consistently stuck at 965. Any tips for what I could be doing better? I think my opener is okay, it's just prioritizing use of DWT and stuff afterward that makes me take a sharp nosedive on numbers.

EDIT: should mention that I'm i182, Hive wep, did parse with no food or pots, no party bonus, with Garuda, for 4.5 minutes.

Sorry for the late reply, your enkindle should be in the pot's duration since pets get buffed by the pot, also raging will still be up for a while if you use it during dread stance it's a waste.

You can try this rotation with ifrit or garuda. You will spike up to 1900-2000 dps easily. (with party buff and pot or just a party buff with a good crit rate)

This opener is very strong with garuda as well. If you do not plan on using a pot you can pretty much go with this opener:

you can squeeze a contagion between the Ruin3s, I just don't bother with miasma 2 on single target.

I plan on using pots for raid, just didn't feel like wasting them on a dummy parse is all. I appreciate the rotations linked with all tools at our disposal being used so I can use them in actual content, not just dummy practice. :)

That said, I reach pretty good numbers on my opener; it's afterward where I start to fumble. I feel like I should be spacing out my stack usage so that when Raging comes back up I'll have 6 stacks at my disposal...is this accurate? If so, how would I go about doing this? By only burning stacks when Aethertrail Attunement is about to fall off, or...?

I'm at work now, so sadly no practice until this evening, but I'm re-reading all the info posted here to try to get a feel for our new "rotation". >__<

6 stack RS doesn't get you anything, you can only do 2 Festers anyway and none of the other moves have enough potency even with RS + DWT to beat a regular Fester, including Painflare. You should just pop RS with your DWT + Aetherflow as you would normally be doing, not much changes from your rotation, it's just your 4th DWT is stronger than your 2nd and 3rd.

What I mean is, I'm entering my Raging DWT with Artherflow still on CD, so I'm trying to figure out how to circumvent this. It costs 3 stacks to enter DWT so Aetherflow has to come off cooldown at least 30 seconds or less after Aethertrail III is up, and mine isnt.

Are you staggering out your final Fester to bridge the gap between DWT and the next DWT? Typical flow is normally:

Opener, use 3 stacks (first 10-20s-ish depending on opener) > stagger 1-2 remaining stacks so DWT doesn't drop off but it will be back up by 1m10-1m20 depending on opener > 2 Festers within DWT, go into DWT immediately as you get Aetherflow > stagger final Fester so you can last until 2m10 - 2m20 > 2 Festers within DWT, go into DWT immediately as you get Aetherflow > stagger final Fester so you can last until 3m10 - 3m20 > Aetherflow + RS + DWT > 2 Festers > etc

Basically, for the staggering part if you're not doing Fester until you have sub-10s left on Aethertrail you will have to enter DWT early, possibly too early to even get Aetherflow.

You want to phase into dwt when tridisaster is about to get off cd, as well as having 3 stacks of aetherflow where you use 2 festers in dwt and the last stack you will save when your aetheflow has 25 secs until it gets off cd. It should be like this:

R2 -> DWT -> Fester(AA stack) -> Tri-disaster -> Ruin3 x4 -> R2 -> Fester (2nd AA stack) -> Deathflare. (you will have 2 stacks of AA and 1 stack of AF) by the time AA is about to reach 8-10 secs is when you want to use your last fester or painflare, it'll refresh your AA just as AF is about to get off cd. When Ragingvstrikes is back up you don't change anything, just time tri-disaster like I said above and maintain balance between AF and AA. Remember to not phase into DWT when fester is on cd so you can fester right away.

Also due to some mechanics in fights (Ravana ex comes to mind) you may have to use a pain just to keep you stacks up.
