That's not a challenge. That's called a timesink.

Oh yeah, i've been preaching this since those NMs were released and I saw they had a 3 min spawn time -_- I mean... even the normal mobs have a longer spawn time, that is just pathetic! Now all those NMs just sit up with no one killing them, who saw that coming... I don't log on these forms much anymore because most people on here are delusional, honestly.
What are you talking about? I'm just saying it's kinda pathetic how easy it all is. Calm down brah. If I wanted to play a game that resided under a communism community where everyone had everything and everyone was exactly the same then I would go play some freebie cash shop korean mmo.
To be honest, I welcome the fast respawn times, at least for the lower level equipment NMs. As much as I wish it wasn't so, I don't have the kind of time that I used to to wake up at obscure hours of the morning to try and claim an NM that five other people are camping which also has a 12% drop rate. It certainly is a welcome addition after taking years of abuse on XI.
However, I also understand that it diminishes the satisfaction of obtaining that Rare/Ex equip. Hopefully they can balance it out by possibly adding rare or very hard to get pop items for NMs that just have a much better drop rate than their previous counterparts.
and the same people that are glad that everyone has everything are the same people complaining about uniqueness. how unique can a character be when almost everyone has the exact same gear you are wearing? very boring to see an entire group running around with the same low level gear.
Dude, if you want to feel special wear a Tutu when playing. Seriously, there's a difference between class uniqueness and omgimsol33ticampedthisr30nmfor40hstraighttogetacrapitemisouniqueandl33t. I don't mind seing those nm repop so fast since they're just low rank nm. As for uniqueness, even with time sink NMs at one point everyone wears the same gear. It just take longer lol. If you want gear uniqueness, ask SE to make NM drop items that will only drop with just a limited number, like 2 or 3, by server end of the story.
I haven't read all 58 pages of this post so this may have already been said. But personally I liked some of the long and rare respawn times on NMs in XI. It made the enemy unique, and even exciting, when you ran by and seen it up. Remember the early days of xi, you're in valkurn dunes, and you see VE up? Maybe you or some of your party warp out to change jobs and try to race back to claim it? Things like that made XI interesting to me. I spent hours and hours, sometimes alone since I play late at night NA time, just exploring zones, looking for NMs or trying to spawn them. IMO a horrible drop rate with a fast respawn timer takes away from part of that "unique" feel. Maybe I'm the only one thinking this but I enjoyed some of the rare NMs in XI, they were the most fun to hunt.
If you did read they just say that way to much pretty much all the casual want 1hour or less HNM and NM they don't want anything to be unique they just do understand that some NM and HNM should be 10+hours even wow have rare mobs that did not pop for hours so i don't really know what casual game they playing but really they should be some mobs that have very high repop to make it really unique and you can alway do the bcnm to get the item like VE item lol
This again? I'll just go state my opinion again:
I don't have time to wait around for 3+ hour NM pops, nor can I afford to be on at obscure hours for pops, nor do I feel like spending time in the game not playing. Some nights I only have a few hours, on those nights I would love to be playing through challenging content that requires me as a player to be skilled. I want to fight something that is truly challenging, where even though we're 100% prepared we don't know if we're going to win. Fights that can throw curve balls that destroy you if you don't know how to handle it. That is what I prefer. If we had true challenge like that I don't care if the NM spawns every 30 seconds. If people are afraid to even go fight it, then the items won't be super common.
The difficulty should be the determining factor in who gets the drops. If everyone has it then that means that everyone on the server has at least that much skill. That's a win-win in my book. People get their loot AND they're all competent players?
Actually this can't be 100% true.
There are new players coming into the game every day and some don't have the ranks or support of a shell to help kill these NM's. Also a friend and I do a run every week for all the people who still do need items off of these lower NM's in our shell. On top of that we have already had people who didn't catch some of our other runs ask us to help them by going back to some we have already done since they missed it and need the item. I can say I do not have every item off of every NM either, since I pass on them for people who do need them more than me.
So while, yes, I am sure a lot of people do have a lot of the items. I doubt every single person has every single item off of every single NM that was put in on that patch. Also it's not boring to me, I find it fulfilling and it makes me happy to get someone something they really would like to have. Like our new member who is leveling Marauder, he just went for the fun because he was new to the game and shell. We ended up getting him two Marauder pieces, and he had never had anything off the NM's before.
Even if someone has every piece, is it really that boring to give support and help to others? This game is about working together and doing things together, supporting one another. Also as the Dev said, they are going to add in higher level NM's that will pose a greater challenge.
Also the lower NM's don't have to be about just the gear, players can go there for one person and it can also be used to get players used to working together as a group and learning the order of how to 'break' things on the NM's, how to use Light and Heavy properly, etc. I think it's nice to start people off with a NM that is more predicable and learn how to fight it to get experience in NM fighting when players are lower level, then work up to the (perhaps, since we don't have any info on them yet) longer pop time, spawn type, harder to handle NMs they might introduce.
Anyway I don't see why there can't be things for casual players to do, and also have things for more hardcore people to do. It doesn't have to be one way or another... they are still working on the game and there is more coming. Key to this is patience, which I have no problem with. :)
Then you should get what you can get in the time you play....and let ppl who can play more get more.... wtfing selfish ppl plays MMO lately...
if you are poor, you cant buy a lamborghini....you will buy a fiat..... or maybe you think all should get a damn lambo???
then since none calls you "blablabla doutchbag always out for pt-fest guy" or something like that, you should not care how other ppl decide to spend their time .....im working , going out, see friends and girls....and still play like a nerd.... is that a prob?
i dont know if you have ever played a MMO, because this is the 1st MMO in history that let you get everything in no-time..... mm maybe rift will...(you should try rift, you can get all gear after 10h play-time...or at least an offline game with MSN or SKYPE for the ONLINE-SENSE.... /sarcasm off)
I have been said it many times.... ok with those crappy repop NM, let them in game... so all can get cool gear, but many players need some more effort-challenging-content in game....In game the sheeps for the sheepskin are more camped then these new NM.... absurd..... and thats only because all players have alreday all the NM EQUIP....after not even 2months those NM are already obsolete....
Guys dont be egoist...accept a game that has both the content.... so all can be satisfied....
Cant be so bad...
YAYYYYYYY! Leaping Lizzy can burn in the fiery pits of whatever underworld you believe in, or ALL of them muah aha ha! I hated XI's NMs.
I'll tell you what's stupid waiting for hours to repop an NM, have it repop and some douche with a Xbow comes along with ++ in dexterity (or whatever it was) and claims it before you can... Yeah, no thanks.
I want to a pretty unique snowflake with gear no one else can get so i can show it off in ul'dah and have newbies say "OH MAI GAWD WHERE DID YOU GET THAT!?" :D
Well, I have to say that this is one of the things that people loves (including myself) about this kind of games (MMOs)
I was always jealous when I saw other people running on Jeuno with those really nice and cool armor/weapons, and therefore I know that the effort to obtain those items was BIG.
This can give you an idea about how big and challenging the game is, and that's something that plenty of players like it.
The feeling that you have played the game, leveled up a job, a craft, and there is still a full plenty of things to achieve, some of those really epic....... that feeling is one of the things I really loved on FFXI and any other MMOs.
I'm not against (and I will never be) to allow not so hardcore players to get good/great armor and weapons in game. Of course there must be a chance for everyone and the game should try to fit his content to any kind of players. But we could have both, we have not to choose just one. There could be equipment for more casual players with less time to play the game, and equipment for the hardcore ones.
Why? I would say why not.
Even if I'm not able, for any reasons (job, family) to get the coolest/better equipment or armors in game I will be happy for those other players that manage to do it. And I feel that this contributes to the greatness and uniqueness of a game.
Sorry for any grammatical errors.
I played FFXI and camped NM's for hours on end, and sometimes for no rewards. I did enjoy it though because i was in college, i wasn't married and had a lot of time to play. Now I am married, I have kids, a full time job and not so much time to play anymore.
I like the fact that SE introduced new NM's that repop fast. They don't always drop the item right away, but it is much faster than the FFXI NM's used to that's for sure.
Why do I like it? Because it is tailored to my life style at the moment. I love this game and i hope SE keeps introducing content for people like me.
On the other hand though, there are people that need and can play this game much longer than me and i absolutelly think SE should introduce other NM's that are similar to the FFXI style. (20 people killing a dragon for example).
I think SE will fix things with FFXIV and both sides of this argument will be satisfied. If they would have introduced a couple NM's that had a repop time of 2 days let's say, people would have still complained that the repop time is not fast enough and you would have had line-ups again, and people would have reacted disrespectfully towards one another just for a drop.
I think SE is doing the right thing and I think they will introduce content to please people that have more time on their hands. There is nothing wrong with playing 10 hrs a day if you can or playing 2 hrs a day. Been there done that :)
We all need challenging content, casuals or hardcore but time sinks are just lame and boring in the long run... There are other ways of implementing challenging content than time sink features.
What I don't get is even SE is confusing casual with easy mode. I mean, they could just have left the rank50 NM as before the 8-men party or even make them a bit harder even as some of them could already been soloed by the appropriate jobs.
I love challenging fights, not changelling claims. So I'm very happy they put these NMs with just few minutes (sometimes seconds) repop time. Camping gets boring after a while.
Want good equips that require a lot of time? There is no need to put nm/hnm with long respawn time. Solution: use content like Salvage/nyzul/einherjar/istanced HNMs -> challenging fights, long time required, equips to be proud of.
Its funny because the OP wants to spend more than 24 hours waiting on NM spawn just to get a weapon you will only use one time around. Not like there is another class that is allowed to use that same weapon. :P This isn't FFXI where you save your Special weapons for the next job to use.
true, but a game like FF can have all this things plus a couple of HNMs with a "boring" respawn time....
with a system like that you can have everything you want in a single game...since there are someone who likes that too
in FFXI, when i stopped play, you could get K.club from Lord or from the BCNM.... all happy.... easy
thats the future of the MMOs.....
I'm ok for FFXIV having more kinds of things, tho I have to disagree on this. Not everyone can camp or wanna have an LS to camp those HNMs (due to high respawn time), plus there are bots that ruin other linkshell's game experience.
To quote Carmillia, the important thing is not to confuse casual with easy mode.
Add more salvage/nyzul/einherjar-like content and that's fine for everyone that wanna enjoy endgame without have to run everyday to camp a HNM.
This shit thread was seriously resurrected to dispute what a "timesink" is?
All MMO are like that... when they game grows, when we get update-patches-more lv-new areas and mobs, your target goes on stronger stuff...its physiological
And i can tell you that FFXI was sure a game where the equip-life was much more longer than other games, also because the incredibly effort needed to get some stuff
