What price is the community going face in a realistic sense? SE will most likely never add a Spyware type thing, it would not make much sense to remove ultimates altogether, that is pretty much the only time FFXIV trends on twitch outside of expansions.

Hell one could even make the argument that show casing these mods shows the devs how it positively impacts player experience.

Like I would not be shocked come 7.0 we are allowed to zoom out even further. Yoshi-P is not dumb he understand tye importance of ultimates.

This reminds me of the fear mongering around buying in game currency. As someone that sold WoW gold as a kid and allowed me to buy mu first car. The buyer is largely safe from punishment for the most part. Sure some get caught but more often then not they are safe. Also the one selling the gold is more likely to get scammed via charge backs

It would be a reaction to what the players are doing, but it would be a totally overblown and stupid reaction, so therefore it's still on the devs.

That wouldn't happen either way. The game has a known botting issue, either for farming drops, dungeon items, gathering nodes or Eureka. SE purges botters in waves. They haven't removed loot drops, gathering nodes or Eureka so far. This likely won't happen with Ultimate fights either.

But they do work on retaliating against people who actively cheat, especially the ones where there's immediate proof. Or at least, remove their clear in this case.
Which is what's always happened: They've always acted on cheaters whenever something's happened with direct proof of it. Because those are the guys they pay attention to.

I've seen bicycles pulled over for speeding AND running lights.

There's MANY places where if you get spotted, you're getting ticketed, and cops in the US tend to be very bored and ticket hungry.

Not everyone has to care about this, but a lot of long-time raiders probably had a moment where they were proud of something unique they earned due to overcoming challenge. The unique gear / mount only accessible to successful raiders is the representation of the accomplishment. To some people, that carries prestige in the context of their hobby. I don't see how this rises to "yikes" and "bigger issues." It's fine you place little value on these things, but that's not the case for everyone. It can just be a small token that they get to show off in game. I'm not the one with a melodramatic reaction - I'm sure you just dislike me as a poster which I'm completely fine with.

I don't mean that in a disparaging way, I literally just can't be bothered to care about holding grudges against someone I disagree with on the forums of an MMO. People disagree with each other, big whoop, unlike some people (especially in this thread...) I don't take that as a personal attack, so just because we disagree doesn't mean I dislike you. There's always another human on the other side of the screen, something a lot of people forget.

Second, you're misrepresenting my words again. I care about my own achievements because I only do stuff in this game that I find enjoyable. Because it's an mmo, and a small fun part of MMOs is showing off your accomplishments. That's why there are titles, and unique mounts and things for certain achievements, raiding or otherwise. It doesn't mean someone has a huge ego, or overvalues their MMO accomplishments in their real life. It's just a fun thing because this is a hobby and a game. One you clearly don't care about at all, which is fine, but doesn't mean people can't have their fun and show off a little when they spent weeks / months as a coordinated team to down the most challenging content. Letting them show off their shiny thing almost no one else has doesn't mean they need a therapist.

I understand your point. You just can't see that not all players think like you do about it. In reality legend titles just point out who it is okay to laugh at when they fail any mechanic.

From what I can see, ultimate titles are only valid for a month from release. After that period, whoever is wearing the title has a high chance of being a clown. It's actually easier to assume anyone who's wearing an ultimate title is a clown rather than a skilled player nowadays, pretty sad.

Or maybe just wear a title that suits you as a person or you personally like instead of wearing something only to show off. No one gives a shit about your legend title. Everyone accomplish goals in this game, clearing ultimate doesn't make you a better person.

It's just so funny, every single time one of the anti-mod or anti-cheat (I'll be fair and separate the two) people brings up the "prestige" of raids they almost always reveal it's about their ego. Like, almost without fail in these threads.

Why are people so bothered by someone choosing to wear a Legend title anyway? Do they ruin your immersion with it? Does it suddenly force you to skip cutscenes? Do they make expert bosses enrage and wipe the party?
Just let them enjoy the game and wear things they're proud of. You're not the judge of what someone is allowed to be openly proud of or not.

Wear whatever you want, idrc. That's not really the point of why people have issues with the Legend title, it's that it's very hard to know who actually did it or who just paid for a clear and had someone else pilot their account. Just because it's not as advertised as it used to be on the PF doesn't mean that discords don't exist where those people moved to, to continue conducting their business. If you're proud of that title, cool. If you put in the weeks/months of effort to clear it yourself, even cooler. If you paid for it though and are acting like a big shot who put the same amount of work into it as those who did legit clears...that's where people have the issue. That side of the game exists because people want the rewards but don't have time or care enough to put in the effort. It just has a negative stereotype that in my opinion is warranted and requires the person holding it to back up the weight of that title in other content or be associated with an RMT clear.

Hot take maybe but, I feel like that is a bigger example of cheating than someone using a plugin to make their UI look a bit neater. At least the person there is actually using their character and not taking a nap while another 8-man does it for them.

I'm bored so I'll bite, no you did nothing wrong in fact you should have reported them however kicking them is a problem if you don't have a replacement. Now you got to try to find a new person that needs a static that fits your days and time that is on the same level progress as you and mesh well as a group. So because you have all these variables finding a replacement could take a long time. No one really has to know that you reported anybody but if you still felt the need to remove him from the group you should have talked to other members, let them know before you kicked him that he's cheating and it you know it's a problematic, possibly work on finding a replacement ready to jump in so you're not suffering any downtime looking. In the end also get your group's opinion. Maybe he was well liked in the group and they would prefer to try to request that he stopped using these plugins when progressing content with them and that might have been all it needed to happen.
In the end you didn't do anything wrong however you didn't do anything right by taking everybody else's feelings or consideration into it. That is your biggest issue is you hurt six other people because of your decision to make it alone. To be fair though I mean this is a common thing in MMOs groups may have an individual's time change work schedule, may fluctuate sometimes, something personal might happen in their life and you have to find a replacement so for the group to fall apart just over this kind of makes me think your group wasn't going to last long anyway and if you had any issue come up you would be in the same boat. Don't stress about it learn from mistake, remember that to be a good and liked leader one of the main things you must do is communicate to everybody and try to keep everybody informed. Live and learn, it'll go better next time

My boyfriend who has played MMOs far longer than I have, said that anything related to really high prestige will lose its sheen over time - not necessarily because the content gets easier, but the content becomes less relevant the older it becomes. People who truly care about their achievement eventually swap off it outside of the first month of that content coming out. The later someone flexes that they cleared the content, for example keeping a The Legend title in current time, the more it implies that they did it for the bragging rights (or maybe even got carried).

Definitely agree prestige has a very limited shelf life before the same items/accomplishments become more commonplace/mundane. It's especially true in XIV with the unsyncing which you can trivialize content but get old mounts/gear.

I also agree with the other posters who pointed out that buying clears is also not very impressive.

There are many things taking away the prestige and it's a subjective thing anyway. Someone blind progging can always claim to have more prestige than someone else who just followed a guide. The longer content is released the more likely it is to have better strats developed compared to the earlier clears. And then there is the ever present potency creep. Even if i was to get a blind prog group together for an old ultimate or savage (on MINE), I can not dodge potency creep. I can not bring back aggro management. Unless you are the literal world first achievers you can always have your prestige invalidated by the person ahead of you. None of the rewards reflect this.

Actually I wear my Legend titles almost exclusively until we get clear the next Ultimate, to me the weight they have representing the work and the memory me and my boys put into those fights outweighs any title I can get on my own merits. It saddens me that I will likely get lumped into the Legend memes but I care less about that over the pride I have in my team.

This wouldn't be a problem if the people wearing those titles weren't awful at the game most of the time. Note I say the people wearing them, not the people that have them. Granted, I think part of it can be attributed to overconfidence. Not everyone that wears the title bought it, I think we all know that. Of those that didn't but still choose to wear it all the time, overconfidence often seems to bite them in the behind.

Doesn't matter how good you are. The second you become overconfident, something can and will come along to make you look like an idiot.

You are making a ton of assumptions here. Legends are high profile titles people notice, so if you see 10 making mistakes out of the 500 you come across you will start thinking they all suck because you've seen several mess up. Whereas anybody else that doesn't have a legend title could mess up over and over and you wouldn't even remember or care because it's not a prestige title.

In other words you've found an anchor for your discrimination and every time someone comes along and messes up you think "See?! I was right, there it is!". However, everytime they perform well its just expected and it doesn't register or you wouldn't even remember.

Basically "selective use of evidence" rejects material unfavorable to an argument. I am not going to dispute a lot of people buy them, in fact I saw a youtube video that shows this is a huge industry. But I think you should treat them as anyone else, because they are just people, so even legit ones may suck as puzzle solving like Rubicante EX but excel at other areas like consistency once a mechanic is mastered.

People wearing those titles doesn't mean they are good or bad, and they have all different reasons for wearing or not wearing them. The only difference is that wearing them gives you something to latch on to, and when you are looking for only bad things you will find them. The only other possible outcome here is that they don't mess up and you quickly forget, so of course you're only going to have bad things to say about them.

Do people really have nothing better to do than pay attention to what title someone is wearing in roulettes and then scrutinizing and judging them based on their performance, going full disappointed parent mode when they didn't meet whatever arbitrary standard they set?

You don't know if they bought the title or not and even if they did, it's not like they're stealing your cookies with it. Not your job to go against it by silently judging them.
Just enjoy the game and ignore other people's titles or what they could mean or not mean.

So much of this thread boils down to cheating vs breaking the rules where breaking the rules = tos.

Some distinguish between cheating and rule breaking and others do not.

Some are willing to break rules they consider minor for whatever reason and do not consider that cheating. They then have a different feeling for what exactly constitutes cheating.

For myself I have a personal ethical issue with breaking the rules of a game. Note I am only speaking for myself here. I won't do it to the best of my ability. The rules say NO 3rd party programs. As such I refuse to use any at all.

As for what other people do. I can't know what you have on your computer unless you point it out to me. The guy I witnessed harassing a newbie in a low dungeon with actual DPS numbers? Yeah I reported him for both harassment and parsing. The guy claiming thanks to his addon I was naked and then making very lewd and offensive advances to me (I was on a lala at the time and what he was suggesting is flat illegal in many countries)? Yeah I reported him. I don't go hunting for violations. If they are shoved in my face however, I will report them. Otherwise I really don't care what you are running on your machine for your use.

I do have one exemption: I want BOTS gone from the game. I will report them every time I see them.

Seems to me you're making quite a few assumptions yourself. Did you notice that nowhere did I say everyone with a Legend title sucks? Has it not occurred to you that stereotypes tend to have a basis in fact? Making note that an inordinate number of people that go out of their way to flaunt their BK crowns and/or Legend titles wind up getting killed by dumb crap is not discrimination, nor is it an inference about people that have mentor crowns or Legend titles.

Other way around, actually. I expect everyone I group with, regardless of what title they wear, to perform abysmally. I don't bother to look at character names, let alone titles. Until they die, anyway. When they die, I will usually take a look to see what kind of gear they have. In the process of this, I'll of course notice their name and title. And you know what? It's usually either somebody that's obviously new, a mentor, or someone with the Legend title. Of these three demographics, the one that dies most often is definitely the mentor.

Put simply, this game's content isn't all that difficult. It's all memorization and pattern recognition. I see no reason to view Legend titles as anything special and will therefore continue to see them as nothing special, while occasionally pausing to wonder why it is the ones that are so intent on flaunting them (flaunting being different from wearing, for those that appear somehow unaware of this fact) die so often.
