Personally, I'd prefer to wait and play a role I enjoy, rather then get an instant queue but be falling asleep the entire time I'm in the dungeon.

I have to say healers have been pretty unnecessary for dungeons so far. Pretty much feel like they're sandbagging and slowing us down prefer to take like a red mage in their place.
I thought all the healing potency buffs would mean something but I guess not, there doesn't seem to be much unavoidable damage to heal.
Honestly, I haven't done any of the 90+ dungeons, and I have done every Trial and Raid currently available in Normal difficulty, but in my experience as a Scholar (was my main for quite some time, retook it recently)
The only time I feel completely useless is when there's a WAR in the party. Most of the time I am busy trying to keep the party alive and using most of my abilities in casual content; maybe I just have crap luck and I get placed with people even worse than me. That said, I support in spirit whatever strike Healers would plan. I am comfortable with the role as is, but if the majority isn't, then things will have to change. There's many things about this game I wish we could influence, and I hope this works for the better.
When this strike page started almost 600 pages ago I was firmly in the camp of “this won’t affect the queues but hopefully the catchy name and the discourse will finally allow people to see how bad healers are”, which in a way it did. I don’t know if they will hear any of it (or if they will spend the entire expansion fixing the travesty that is BLM) but I’ve reached a point that I don’t care
PCT is so hilariously well designed compared to anything around it and I enjoy it so much that the healers can genuinely go rot in a corner at this point.
If you wanna be contrarian to the strike please you have my every blessing to make my PCT queues faster, I’ve genuinely stopped caring about the state of healers and have moved to “I hope this strike continues to generate contrarians that will fill my queues so I can have fun
I started as a WHM when I first started the game. By the end of ARR, I moved on to the Tank role, and then DPS, and haven't played a healer again until just today when I got frustrated with the queue times.
Honestly, I get it now. My thumb hurts from pressing Circle to cast Stone so much. But also, it's nice to be able to just be able to play the game.
I feel conflicted, because I want queue times for DPS jobs to go back to being semi reasonable. On the other hand, healers really need some TLC. :(
This is expected, though, because both of the new classes are DPS. Someone earlier dug up a thread from the SB-era (the last time 2 DPS classes were introduced) showing even several months into that xpac, the DPS queues were exceptionally long. I've been consistently finding in roulettes that tank queues are instant and healer queues have minimal time (< 15 seconds). I don't really do DF content on DPS, so no info on those queues.
No, what you've (the collective "you" that has been posting, not necessarily "you" specifically) been doing for 5 years is giving your own opinion on why you personally find healing terrible for you. That's very different than proving that healers are actually in a terrible place from the perspective of the larger playerbase and game design. Some of those very same things that one person will claim makes healers "bad" is exactly what makes another person enjoy them (for example - people who want healers to have more dps abilities vs. people who want healers to focus considerably on healing and specifically don't want to be running dps rotations while playing a healer role).Quote:
You literally told us we need to show proof that healers are in a terrible place, you mean what we've been doing for 5 WHOLE YEARS
So all the factual charts and logs we've been posting showing that there's not enough healing needed in high end content to the point where we're spending 60-90% of our uptime spamming 1 single button is "our own opinion"?
Alright then, I don't have anything else to say to you.
Same.
I'm doing the MSQ for the first time on a non-healer and I'm actually having a lot of fun.
If people want to put their money where their mouth is and actually main healer to spite us, I say that's a great idea.
Okay here is something for you to ponder
Lucky brancho’s mega SB survey showed that the number of accounts tallied during his SB surveys showed that there was
-1.2 million DPS
-550k healers
-400k tanks
(Of course there is overlap and not everyone was active at the same time)
His mega EW survey showed this
-3.7 million DPS
-1.7 million tanks
-1.2 million healers
Lucky is the best survey data we have, so according to this they streamlined both the tanks and the healers and it led to the healers getting relatively less popular and falling behind the tanks that still enjoy all the benefits of square thinking they are the rarer role like tank achievements and default AIN status
We personally have zero evidence that people actually like the modern healers, we don’t have a massive amount of data that they do like them but we certainly have more evidence that people don’t like them. Healer wasn’t always the rarest role
Yes! It adds a layer of depth to the combat, and trying to execute your job under different circumstances is a big part of the fun. It shouldn't prevent folks from completing content, but it should serve to offer room to improve a run, especially since this game highly encourages repeating content
Well in my Datacenter as DPS you need to queue 20-30 Minuts for each Roulette because barely anyone plays something else.
The reason for that is mostly that we got two new DPS Classes (the Pictomancer does play nicely i will add) i did hear some FC Mates talk about the Healer Strike and those were not Forum visitors.
So who knows maybe it did contributed to the Situation.
More than likely, it's just another drop in the bucket. BUT we managed to make people aware that we have issues. Like you said, even non forum goers have heard of a healer strike going on.
This is probably the most we could achieve on our own. People are talking now. They might Attribute part of the queue times to us or Not, but word that many veterans no longer enjoy Healers has finally left the forums and lonely reddit Posts.
There has been people shouting something along the line of “How’s that healer strike going now, huh? Got my quick pop.” in new zones. Ironically by saying things like that they’re inevitably assisting in our endeavor: to get our discussion points being known to common players. I never try to actively speak of the strike to most of my CWLS & just yesterday they came to ask if I know anything about the healerstrike because they recognized that I’m a healer main & they heard of it in their first trial of DT. Had a good conversation with them as I gave them the enlightenment :)
Ah yes, I've seen some of those dorks as well, albeit in the older major cities.
Nothing a good blacklisting couldn't fix though, and being Dynamis, it might actually sting them a bit if I wasn't the only one who did that, because it probably isn't the greatest idea for them to make annoying fools of themselves on a locked down, low pop world.
Also apparently the strike is big enough that phishers use its hashtag. Of course that is bad that this is happening like all phishing is.
I support this effort.
I've been following this thread from the beginning. And I have never played a game that systematically destroyed its own balance the way this one has.
I want to say thank you to the OP. You put yourself in the line of fire, knowing you would likely be targeted by the puerile and seriously disordered that appear so clearly in this thread as festering sores on the backside of the FFXIV community. I haven't posted on the forums before specifically because the privacy features in this game are/were appalling and I haven't been willing to risk being targeted myself.
And thank you to all the healers who kept the constructive conversation going in spite of the best efforts of all the above mentioned festerers.
To all those crowing about stepping into the healer role for a day-
Get back to us in a few years and maybe we'll talk.....
Today I saw 428 healers.
ast changes are the reason i no longer play healer.
im sick of the devs giving every other role the attention when they cry out for it. especially those with big content creators playing the job.
healers ahve been asking for changes for YEARS and the devs juist keep doubling down on the decisions.
the devs do not like healers that much is clear. they dont want us having fun
It’s funny how the expansion is about the leaders listening to the struggles of those under them and learning/understanding the issues - and do what they can to make them happy.
Instead of telling them to “just leave and go somewhere better”, to instead find how to improve things so people won’t have to leave or make such hard sacrifices. Yes, some may be happy with how things are, but some see how those things aren’t sustainable or better.
It’s a very disappointing disconnect to see the very team preach one thing and their actions do otherwise. It’s also disappointing in the lacking empathy of some of the posters here mocking the heal strike. If they played this expansion, they’re not paying attention to it.
The thing is, they do listen to the community... But the part they listen to is that they find a few Japanese players who are content with the gameplay essentially being in maintenance mode and think they represent everyone.
Which is sad, because that’s literally what the antagonizing sides of the story do.
So.....is the strike happening or no?
Cause i cant really say anything fells different queue wise
The funny thing is.. it hasn't officially started!
If the Devs pay a little bit attention, even 10% of the entire community's focus on this, that would still, in my opinion, lead to positive change. What we need now is perseverance, because such changes would not be coming very soon - and that is a "lost art" in today's instant gratification world. But, who better than healers can persevere in difficult times, hehe :)
It has, a bunch of Healer mains have converted to DPS.
The strike in the name was basically just a clickbait about Healers who quit the shitty role to play the fun Roles and explaining why. Have to say a lot of the healers I have got in trials are complete noobs who haven't played the role much, we had a Sage who almost exclusively GCD aoe healed instead of oGCD/Mit. Had a bit of an effect in that way at least.
On this XPAC im going for a DPS, I won't touch a healer, until the role starts to be fun again. (Main SAGE last Xpac)
Expert roulette queue times on one of the highest population NA servers is currently roughly 20+ minutes with healer as the role in demand, and that's after pushing past the swarm of levelling DPS. Day 1 levelling roulette queues were in excess of one hour, again with healer in demand. This was in contrast with 5 minute baseline queues pre-expansion.
In fairness, I think the newer fight designs do add some value to good healers, but I doubt that will turn things around.
I'm still only at level 92 because I had to work this weekend and I also saw other vipers at level 90 yesterday so the queue times are only going to get worse at level 100 once we catch up. :p
How are all the new healer mains doing? Are you enjoying healing more compared to your former role?
It does genuinely seem that there was an attempt to design more frantic fights with plenty of avoidable mechanics that come at you at high speed. Unavoidable damage is still somewhat low, though it has definitely been increased. Savy players will still manage to dodge stuff thus keeping damage taken to a point where GCD healing isn't warranted, but I was genuinely surpruised at some of the Expert roulette mechanics, not only in bosses but also packs.
We still broiling though, even if the frantic pace of the dungeons and bosses does make the general experience more exciting.
The healer I mostly get are the most inexperienced healer I have ever got and in a decent amount of runs even not some small number. They have only the fraction of a clue what tools they have and the moment shit hits the fan they fall apart. But luckily a decent chunk of tanks are wars so they just heal 3 different people and still be fine In the boss fights.
But yeah if it’s a drk tank and you have an inexperienced healer it’s just perfect cinema seeing the struggle and getting punched into a pulp by trash packs after the drk runs out of cds. Also bonus points if the drk is also not good.
Let’s be real here some bosses are a bit more spicy the first time but some people say specific toothpaste is spicy. I really only had 1 boss were I said it I would be fun to hold full nuke button uptime and heal derp players when I did it as Meele (was healer main so it’s hard spotting fun fights when you play a actual interesting role) and that’s the 87 dungeon 2 boss. The rest is there I would say.
Me and my friends do dungeons as 3 meeles (3 viper funny enough so not even any self defensive tolls and only second wind and blood path and we are one shooting even with some deaths all the bosses) and 1 war tank and he is bored and say he sometimes doesn’t even use all his mitigations tools.
With a healer these dungeons are the most free ever expect people hard derping mechs and then again it’s the fact that other people shit the bed that you can have some fun as healer.
Like I helped people lvl picto and Viper a decent amount and playing healer actually gave me the time to slowly eat my sandwiches mid dungeon and finish some Netflix series and find new good music. If you find this is fun then more power to you people but I just can’t do this for a extended amount of time before falling asleep
