It's time to reevaluate the idea of adding a PLEX/Chronoscroll-like system to FFXIV

You DO realize I was the one that brought that article to this thread. That I was the one that quoted it. That it contained details specifically citing studies of what other MMOs do. OBVIOUSLY I know they look at other games. I'm the obtuse one. Lol.

I replied to someone who said PLEX could be a source of fraud. They linked an article about how RMT can lead to fraud lawsuits which involve the company in the middle of them. I pointed out why neither that article nor fraud lawsuits apply to PLEX. PLEX will not cause fraud lawsuits that could entangle SE. The end.

The other part of the joke is an acknowledgment of the fact that SE leans really heavily on WoW for design ideas. This is contrary to the rest of the article about how SE doesn't need to necessarily follow in the footsteps of other, non-wow MMOs.

You saying it's just a joke tells me you don't think that SE will do something just because WoW does it.

This game is a lot like WoW, cash shop and all. There isn't a lot of secret about that. If PLEX works out in WoW, do I think PLEX is going to be on the table for FFXIV? absolutely. Do I think that it will be specifically because it's WoW who did it? Yes. And I think you're obtuse if you think otherwise.

I hope this thread will end soon and we all forget about this Idea.

personally I think it's a lot more than just WoW they are looking at. however if it does succeed in WoW I think you are right and it will come to XIV. how good or bad it is really depends a lot on the dymanics of the version they choose to impliment honestly.

What in gods name gives you that impression. I literally pointed out that quote that literally shows them using other games in a study to decide what to do. You seriously think I missed that entire point when I was the one that posted the link in the first place. Now you're trying to force holes in my argument onto me because you fail to comprehend my words. Not through any fault of my own. That one line was literally him making a sarcastic joke. Because no one in their right mind believes WoW will go free. It has nothing to do with me not understanding that they look at other games for guidance. The PLEX system is simple in the extreme. There are no especially compelling arguments on either side, you either like the idea, don't care, or dislike the idea.

I see a lot of people throwing around that "if WoW goes free-to-play" quote as definite confirmation that Yoshida will never add a PLEX-like system to this game. However, I read it a little differently. The full quote is "If WOW ever goes completely free-to-play, maybe we will consider it." I think this actually means if WoW does something, we will consider doing it too. WoW has just announced a PLEX-like system. Consequently, I'm certain that Yoshida has already had multiple meetings with his team and with higher-ups considering a PLEX-style option for this game.

PLEX does not remove the subscription so I'm having trouble understanding the point you're trying to make.

If SE will test out this style of payment, it will most likely be through FFXI first. If a game like FFXI, through the same company, has stuck with a strict P2P model (no PLEX system) for 10+ years, I highly doubt FFXIV will adopt it first. Just my own thought and opinion, to be taken with a grain of salt, I could be wrong.

Oh, yea, if they were to re-evaluate PLEX, I could see them using FFXI as a guinea pig. Although that may be unnecessary, they can just watch what happens with WoW.

Actually, just playing devils advocate again, your analogy is flawed because of the part that I'm quoting. From what I get from the idea of a plex system, person A doesn't have time to make gil. person B has a ton of gil. Person A pays for person B subscription in exchange for gil. Both "person's" win.

Now in your example, Person A works for person B, but only person B reaps the rewards. Why would person A work for person B but person B gets all the money? What does Person A get out of it in your example? Its a bad representation of what people are trying to explain about the plex system. Its just like solving a polynomial equation. What you do to one side of the equation, you must also do to other side.

Well, at least they gave it a good run and were honest about it, unlike say...D3, Level 5 and SCEA with White Knight Chronicles 2 which didn't even hit it's 2nd birthday before being unceremoniously yanked off line.

Perhaps SE will offer a special discount campaign to XI players who have yet to move over to XIV? It would be a nice way to reward their loyalty, similar to the way that they rewarded legacy players of XIV.

Ummm... they're not ending subscription service for FFXI on PC. They're just ending PS2 and X360 client service. You'll still be able to pay monthly to play FFXI on PC. It remains to be seen if they'll consider/experiment with alternative payment methods for FFXI.

They also getting a Korean company Nexon to make a cell phone version of FFXI. After November FFXI will stop getting updates. But Nexon is known for only f2p games so who knows what the future holds for FFXI after the updates stop.

Its kind of like trickle down economics Selling this PLEX thing to spread the gil around right? But seriously it almost a risky gamble assuming this PLEX thing was unlimited to buy essentially it could make very little gil if everyone jumped on the bandwagon, however, if SE did make them limited they would be indirectly influencing the price and the economy because of the supply and demand assuming there is even a demand, I doubt they want to do that as its only just begun to get stable over here on my server.

I think it would also get complicated when you account for more days subbed = discount and Legacy discount and retainers. There is already issues with the time cards not taking any of that into account. There is someone making quite a profit off those somewhere.

If tons of people start buying PLEX to cash in, the price falls. As the price falls more people are willing to pay for it, and supply falls. If supply becomes low and demand remains high, the price rises.

Eventually the price will reach an equilibrium and will only marginally rise and fall from that point.

I don't know it just seems like a really bad idea to me your pretty much paying for a item to sell and a high price to avoid farming gil like we do now, but what would be the point, sure you could avoid all that spiritbonding for the materia you need for gear and weapons, buy the best crafting and gathering gear have the best melds etc. Then what you pretty much removed a good chunk of your game play and all you have left is raids and Roulettes and zeta grinds.

And besides many people with families and bills to pay don't have that kind of money to waste on a digital item to make fake money, should we really be making this a game where people with lots of real money should have the right to be lazy in game?
