The patience thing will never be a good argument considering we're now nearing two years of being patient. If anything, I'd say we're more patient than most MMO players out there.

I'm hoping it's because they're trying to get a direct response from Yoshida. Either way, they need to be very careful about how they're going to respond to this. It will be interesting to see exactly how they'll handle it.
I'd say three more wallpapers would be enough.
YOSHIDA!!!!! WE WANT GUMMY BEARS WE DEMAND GUMMY CHUBBY BUT CUTE BEARS SO WE CAN GO TO OUR INN AND EAT THEM BEFORE GOING TO BED, THEN GET NIGHTMARES OF ATTACKING GUMMY BEARS!!!
/sarcasm off :D
This topic was well worth the 46 pages it took for Rokien to come in and make himself look like an idiot.
*Raises Hand* Umm .. Sorry to interrupt as everyone is obviously enjoying the battle, but considering SE is attempting the never before accomplished feat of rebooting an mmo that was never taken offline. Wouldn't a small demo be worth more than a whole Advent Children worth of CGI? As I said earlier, nobody is questioning the CGI (Except maybe the lack) of FFXIV. They are questioning the gameplay and can FFXIV deliver on the promises it's been making for the last 2 years.
I would think people who have been playing this game would understand that more than anyone. As anyone who watched the KARA demo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0KTUysrwgQ will tell you, if something is truly awesome then it will make news on its own.
I have a change of heart about this. I re-read the letter and this:
"Well, the public release of new info regarding version 2.0 is set to kickoff with this year’s E3 in Los Angeles. We also plan to unveil a brand new promotion site for version 2.0 soon after E3 ends."
FFXIV will be represented. I think we are all in for a big surprise in the next letter, prolly to come right before or during E3.
There, thats what I was waiting for. Somone gets it. "If something is truly awesome then it will make news on its own." This is what SE, Yoshi, and the Dev team understand. Rushing to make a fool of yourself at a highly publicized event is truly ignorant. Honestly, If yoshi can keep the bunches of cry babbies on this forum playing this long, I certainly trust he will make xiv a sucess
That's the only line I needed to read to understand we are getting new info, nothing more.. the rest underneath it, was the reason behind not have an FFXIV 2.0 Trailer at E3 and rescheduled to August on Gamescom and Penny Arcade.Quote:
"Well, the public release of new info regarding version 2.0 is set to kickoff with this year’s E3
That makes it sound like the playerbase hasn't been rewarded for their "patience" yet. Yet let's take this into an actual account. Ok two years, actual payment didn't start until January 2012, so we've only been paying for these last 5 months(for those who have paid since payment started) up until that point this game was pretty much an f2p without a cash shop lol. Also take into account that your character isn't getting deleted upon 2.0 so that free time you got isn't lost, another perk for sticking with the game, so to do a quick overview let's see what patience has gotten us so far.
-Free online game til January 2012
-Legacy Campaign allowing said game to be at the same price we are paying for now along with a unique mount (total savings of 36-60 dollars a year. but since Legacy is giving us the main bonus then we should technically be saving 60 dollars a year)
So ya, patient for 2yrs, 1.5 of which was free and now we have an upcoming event which should give us a lot of interesting news. So ya saying to be patient for another week should be enough when it's alrdy been shown that our dedication and support is paying off lol.
You know...how does a CGI trailer change anyone's opinion about FFXIV again? Cuz the summary of the thread is: No trailer at E3 = FFXIV 2.0 fail. So my question is, how does a CGI trailer reflect *anything* about the game/gameplay/quality at all? Last I checked, a CGI trailer was just that...CGI. And last I checked, we don't play the game in CGI soooo >_> wth are you guys whining about. A trailer at E3 wasn't going to do shit, especially without a lot of information behind it.
why? why would you be upset? are you worried that SE or Yoshi will make a bad decision and throw millions down the drain? Dosent sound like somthing any buisness would WANT to do, soo I think I would trust SE over making sound buisness decisions before I trusted the gamers. If its not A poor buisness decsion you fear then maybe its the selfish want to see more cool things faster... in wich case, want in one hand and piss in the other, see wich fills faster. SE and Yoshi must put the games future success before the selfish wants of its more oblivious players. Or maybe you enjoy investing over a year on a game just to see it tank... in wich case go play Diablo III , at this rate wont even be a year lol.
There's other reasons too. Most people don't bother and assume everyone is on one side which is "GIMME GIMME I WANTZ NOWW" and the other side is "I FULLY SUPPORT DERE DECISIONS FROM MARKETING STANDPOINT." And then you have all the assumptions. People just assume everything is the way they think it is "Oh trailer automatically means cgi trailer. There's never been gameplay footage in it." and on the other side people are expecting gameplay footage. No one really knows anything about it. I wish people would stop assuming either way. e3 is a big event regardless what anyone says. And they will loose future customers because of that. I want this game to thrive more than anything. I just hope it was really was a good choice they made.
Also, to people complaining about people complaining about the trailer. You're whining as well.
Ah were all at fault here! Were all whining for some reason or another! :P
>.> What's even going on in this thread? The drama never fails with you guys lol.
Basically the only problem with not showing the trailer at E3 is exposure and the lack thereof. That's all. At this point it won't change what 2.0 is or isn't but it might impact how many people pay attention when 2.0 launches. I just hope that since E3 will be quiet for XIV info that when they do start their marketing campaign it will be in as big of a way as an E3 presentation would have been.
I don't think E3 would have been too soon, in fact I fear the marketing blitz will happen too fast and be gone in a flash and people will blink and forget about it, and by people those who are not keeping up with the game at all, those are the ones that E3 would have targeted better. We'll see what happens I guess.
Exactly. The moment you state you're disappointed with the decision or you think it's a bad idea, you're instantly thrown into the naysayer category and viceversa. I do partially blame this on the fact that the letter is a tad unclear though.
This is another thing that's bothering me because they never stated this trailer is CGI only, yet there's so many claiming WHO CARES IT'S JUST A CGI TRAILER ANYWAY! I would absolutely agree with them IF ONLY we knew that it really was a CGI only trailer, but we don't.
Oh I truly wish a certain someone listened to you about this, but surely they won't. Fortunately the ignore list works wonders.
I admit I'm kind of disappointed in SE for missing this opportunity to drum up excitement for 2.0 with new players. We here following the game already aren't really missing anything because we'll all see the promotions when they ARE released. But a lot of people who don't follow XIV's progress as closely or at all are going to miss out entirely, which in my admittedly novice opinion (in terms of marketing) is a huge missed chance to draw in new players which the game is in sore need of.
It would have been downright outrageous to charge monthly fees (charging for the actual game was bad enough) for the unfinished mess this game was at release. Also, they had no choice but to let us keep our characters, or there would be no reason to play. I would hardly call these things rewards, more neccessities.
The Legacy campaign was a good move, though, but it works both ways since players who have been on the fence have to subscribe now if they want the Legacy status.
At the end of the day, no matter how you put it, we're still sitting here two years on with an unfinished game, more or less beta-testing it (and even paying money to do so). Yeah, I'd still say we're patient.
Considering NA is a big part of their player base you think they would have more to showcase @ E3. rehashing old information that anyone can freely look on lodestone to see and whoah wait we got this new site for when more information comes out is just a waste. LAME Yoshi.
Yes, but im not whining from a point of extreme ignorance/lack of common sense/insert insult here. There's nothing wrong with complaining. There *is* something wrong with complaining about something that you don't even comprehend. The least ppl could do with their complaints is exercise common sense. I'm *all* for complaining, but let's at least pretend to have brain cells when we do it yeah? The complaints in the thread are just retarded, especially considering a trailer without information was *not* going to do *anything* to drum up any sort of mass interest. From a marketing perspective, all it would've been to gamers was a fail game with a new trailer. And anyone with a shred of common sense could see that, but all the community is good for these days is face-rolling drivel on their keyboards.
It has nothing to do about whining, its all about complaining while using some brain matter. I mean cmon, you have to see these ludicrous conclusions are just that...ludicrous.
you also have to be smart enough to use brain cells and realize that if the game is supposed to release in just a few short months they should have at least something that people can put their hands on. if they don't have something that they could have made a hands on demo for at least the console version for e3 you should really start to question if the game will actually be even close to ready by the time the release date comes up.
you also have to realize that e3 is the largest show for the na players and it is also the spot that specializes in consoles. i would have thought they would have been prepared since release is in oct/nov, but undoubtedly not.
You use this. Yes, but im not whining from a point of extreme ignorance/lack of common sense/insert insult here" and then you say that it is a CGI trailer which you haven't a clue whether or not (ignorance) there is any gameplay in it. And all it comes down to is ignorance. I won't even bother.
"Yes, but im not whining from a" You say it best yourself. You're whining. Doesn't matter. Your whining = other peoples whining = whining = whining.
We don't need a goddamned trailer, we just need solid information about 2.0. Seriously. Who cares if there's a trailer or not as long as something good comes out of E3? It's not like a trailer is the only thing they could show. Maybe they'll be demoing 2.0 live! That's what I'd like to see.
You also have to realize that there's a lot of things @ E3 that will topple FFXIV and won't stand a chance there.. Esp. with Wii U Taking the spotlight. Esp when FFXIV is already failed MMO, they need to "Wait for the right moment to strike" E3 is just not one of them.. doing it Just prior to 2.0 Beta ( Gamescom and Penny Arcade) is the perfect time to strike.
E3 is going to blow me away with these games:
- Nintendo Wii U
- Assassins Creed III
- Resident Evil 6
No one is going to bother with FFXIV a Failed MMO @ E3 when there are better things to look at.
Well according to what Yoshi was saying in the letter it doesn't sound like it. They are keeping the trailer because they want to keep the wraps on, so while what you suggest would be super freaking awesome with a cherry on top, I doubt that's what will happen so I'm just going to expect a Q&A and that's about that.
yes, you are correct. you must also realize that those games that will be blowing people away at e3 while that "failed game" is showing nothing is creating a buzz for those games. when se does start their massive promotion they not only have to make up for the original release and the bad press it has already gotten, but now they also have to play catchup to the buzz surrounding the games that were shown at e3 that blows it out the water.
now look at your own statement and word it just a little difference
"No one is going to bother with FFXIV a Failed MMO @ E3 when there are better things to look at."
no one is going to bother with FFXIV a Failed MMO after E3 when there are better things people are already looking at.
lol Either way you put it, the 2 Conventions in August will cover lost ground + Youtube ^^.
the more i read from you and a few others the more i realize people really dont know what e3 is really about
there are 2 things people expect at e3 and look for
1) new unexpected released, these only really happen during the main press conferences
2) games that they have already been following that have not yet been released that they are waiting on
going off of this, you can pretty much guarentee 14 wasnt going to be in a press conference, so that rules that out, and as for #2, we are alreayd released, so giving people an "update" on a released game is pretty pointless. it would be the equivilent of blizzard going there to advertise warcraft, it wont do anything for them
also given the history of MMOs at e3, its also a bad time for it, usualy most mmos give absolutely no or little info at e3 cuz its not the time for them to shine. in the past, all you ever really see for them are trailers, inside the main conferences(again proving point #1 above)
ive been a hardcore following of e3 for years, and this has pretty much held true every year so far as ive been watching it and see what gets covered and what they actualy show.
I'd imagine FFXIV is just one small part of what SQUEENIX has to show at E3. Do you really think that a revamped version of a previously released game is all they're going to show?Quote:
No one is going to bother with FFXIV a Failed MMO @ E3 when there are better things to look at.
It's not like anyone's trying to 'beat" nintendo or capcom. It's a show, not a competition.
1st The trailers done- not showing at E3
2nd They plan to show off the trailer with their launch on a promotion site.
3rd At 2.0 launch, those who view in current time on launch can try the free trial (instead of waiting)
4th All information will be available ("not trickles of it")
So Square Enix doesn't show their game at E3, I've never gone there(and probably never will). It's no big deal for me and beside, SE's a Japanese publisher, they don't owe E3 nothing. I'll still be playing FFXIV just like the rest of the world and I'll get to see the trailer on the web.
I know their reasoning doesn't explain much to most of us westerners and it doesn't make sense. The mainstream media and gaming world ( players & non-players) have scrutinized XIV before it's launched w/o even playing and comparing to last years' they'll new to have everything up-to-date and ready to rock and roll. So to me, they're pretty much going to "land hard running" and full speed.
