I am tired of being the hero (aka the chosen one)

You'd have to probably play a sandbox MMO where you kinda make your own story and do whatever. Back when I played Archeage(good old Beta days) I was a petty thief on one character, another character I was a diplomat, and another char I was just a simple farmer/rancher....and then it went P2W. I kinda feel ya though OP but FF series is all about the epic adventure or being the hero. At least in between big content releases you can be a simple adventurer.

It depends on your perspective. If you see all the subs around you as a herd of WoLs, then it doesn't make sense. However, the MSQ doesn't acknowledge that there are thousands of other accounts progressing it. It only acknowledges the current avatar on any given account as the WoL. As another example, the lore surrounding WHM has very few outside the Padjal who are even allowed to practice it, but at any given time there are hundreds of WHMs online.

Another way to look at it is your character exists on multiple dimensions that are all the other accounts subbed to the game. Your account however, is your dimension, and in your dimension you ARE the WoL. On all others you're just a regular joe-schmoe. Instances kind of exploit this in the beginning and after a clear where you get a glimpse of the members who are with you, but it always puts you at the forefront.

Many things are more convenient if you group, and several others require that you do it, including the MSQ. Just because the story only recognizes one WoL doesn't mean the devs are treating the game as single player. If I was designing a game, I would think that most would favor being in the spotlight.

That's not exactly true. The implication of Stormblood's ending is that without the Warrior of Light, there is little chance either Doma or Ala Migho could have been liberated. Many people focus on the fact that we're god slayers, and yet there's plenty of times in the story where the NPCs state we're one of the most highly skilled warriors in existence. We have Hydaelyn's blessing to push our trained strength and skill, but the ending of Stormblood makes it clear that we're the reason this happened.

Then why do you play the game? The story is a well done, people are really over blowing this whole "chosen one" narrative.

The quest lines and the NPCs have started mentioning your adventurer friends.

Mhm... the english version does that occasionally (for example in Rabanastre). I haven't found it in the german version yet and I kinda doubt it's in the JP version either. I'd need a translator to know for sure, tho.

And the lore book kinda pointed out how we did most of the stuff in ARR and HW solo, especially Thordan, who was the strongest primal of all. So yes its kinda seems to be a certain idea of the English version to make fun of this. Maybe they read the discussion in the lore forum but it kinda annoyed me a bit. I am fine if we have others with us or not but please stick to one side. And if we have others with us I feel bad for those. They are kinda the people that the OP wanted to be. x) The helpers that do a lot of heavy stuff too and yet get no single credit at all. Heck they are not even seen in the cutscenes. No wonder that they dont help us in bad situations directly after such a fight. I would feel annoyed too if the WoL always just steals all credit. °_°

I'm glad you mentioned this. I remember they said at the US Fan Fest (while speaking about Uematsu's new piece for Stormblood) that the direction of the story this time was less about the supernatural threats we've been facing, and more of a focus on the "human" (metaphoric, not literal) struggle. I for one, love that about the current story. Gods and demons and dragons are fun to fight, but nothing hits home like a mortal conflict.

Because I enjoy doing challenging content with friends and pushing myself to be better. I'm sure the story is fine, it's just not to my tastes. I've never really particularly enjoyed any final fantasy story.
