But you know, I still wonder what would FFXIV be like without YoshiP. Im kind of convinced anybody else that would replace him would just make the Monetization of the game worse then people think it is now.
And quite frankly, the games monetization is Kittens compared to other games.

It's made known by now that I'm heavily critical toward this expansion, but I still genuinely believe Yoship wants the best for this game.

The man doesn't even want to be on the board of directors, he wants to make great games that people will enjoy for years to come. He has to split his focus on too much. At the end of the day, this game might be milked by SE, and it does feel like not enough goes into the game at times, but it's SE that directly provides the funding brought by that profit.

No, that is the total amount of characters ever created. The majority of them either didn't continue playing the game, are bots, or level 1 alts that people didn't level, alts generally, or currently unsubscribed from the game.

But that number is relevant, because even if SE causes 100,000 of their current subscribers to unsubscribe, another 100,000 of those inactive characters could suddenly return to the game for a month to "replace" them.

The 20 million is a pool, and from it different people from this pool may be subscribed at any given month, aside from the people who just keep subscribed all year round like me.

MMO-Population was found to be bogus (they took the figure directly from the game's reddit follows which is not in any way a reflective statistic) and this caused it to say that games no longer running are still being played.

I don't know what Activeplayer is but given the only statistics we really have to go on are lodestone sweeps (Lucky Bancho and ffxivcensus), Steam charts or Square Enix's quarterly reports, it's unlikely they are reliable either.

Regardless, IMO I think she truly believes the things she's saying in her video. The idea that she's being disingenuous in her criticism of the game and she's only doing it for the views is a poor take. Anybody who believes that is purely coping at that point and is trying to dismiss her criticism as nothing.

True, but you can definitely see that this video is drawing more views in a shorter period of time than many of her other videos. The videos only been out for a week and it's at 117k views and 3,032 comments.

Aye, the more I dig the more those figures I used look bad.

SE announced a 27 million characters created milestone last year with estimates that it'll hit 30 mil at some point this year (Likely with some fanfare when it happens). There's no way 20 mil of those are actively subbing still IMO.

Yep. They just use the accounts/characters created number for promotion purposes because bigger numbers tends to grab more attention. From a business standpoint, it makes perfect sense. It's just a little deceptive if you dig just below the surface.

I think it's a bit of both. On one hand, Yoshi-P doesn't have unliateral control over finances and budget. On the other hand, there have been questionable decisions that are not related to budget, like dumbing down jobs and making content with no staying power.
