Without all of those things Starlord mentioned, what would be the difference between Final Fantasy and any other JRPG on the market? Very little. There are very distinctive features and characters/monsters that make FF what it is.

FFXIV: ARR is already taking some of those FF ideas and reworking them for itself. Take Limit Break for example, not taken directly from other FF games that have had it or other similar systems. It's its own iteration of the Limit Break concept. Crystal Tower is another classic FF concept that is being brought over to 2.0.

It's not that they're copying features and ideas from WoW, it's just that for the most part our current game is nowhere near the standards of modern MMOs. Yeah, some of those features are included in WoW but mostly because it made them MMO standards, though the features themselves weren't original in their own right. Things like a UI that actually works well, a mail system, working guild/LS systems. You know, basic stuff like that which we don't even have right now.

I understand what youre saying. "A superficial FF skin over a WoW-clone is awesome"

What I'm saying is that's it's kind of boring, non-progressive, and not enough to seduce players especially with the MMO genre becoming increasingly more innovative (GW2, TERA, Blade and Soul, Black Prophecy, ArcheAge...all innovating in some way while SE makes a WoW clone and pastes a FF skin over it).

Lol'd at your comment about innovation, and then mentioning GW2, TERA, and BnS.

FF was never a completely original series. They had their own quirks. And the FF titles that were truly original were absolutely terrible (FF2, 8, and 14.)

You should probably just drop this franchise in general if you're wanting COMPLETELY NEW AND INNOVATIVE IDEAS LIKE GUILD WARS 2 AND TERA, right?

Regardless of whether I want it or not, I was responding to the idea that anything they're doing with ARR at present isn't just a superficial reskin of WoW with a FF coat of paint, which is pretty self-evident.

Anyhow, GW2, TERA, and BnS obviously did make some innovations, not least of all in terms of combat, or at least redeveloped upon something Darkfall already set out to achieve years before and actually made it useable in a MMO. And regardless of what people might suggest on these forums, these statements are repeated and made evident enough in most reviews/previews about such games. You'll never hear someone say "FFXIV has some really progressive game design concepts!"

And it's especially funny how you read statements from the developers of games like Archeage, Black Prophecy, Guild Wars 2, and they will all tell you their perceived problems with contemporary/past MMOs and how their ambitions will seek to rectify those problems. All Yoshi ever does is say how he wants to make FFXIV "standard" and be original "later". Like that's all he can say. Oh, except the one time he slammed SWTOR for making too many story quests, and then decided to repeat the same gameplay mechanic in ARR. lol.

Like the DoW, the DoM don't need in active mode before they can start a spell, they turn automatically in active mode after starting a spell. It is a subtle difference.

Yeah, I'm sorry, but no. I've played WoW, and FFXIV is not, nor has it ever been like that. It seems like you've simply latched on to certain features (ones that any good MMO should have, not just WoW) and ignored anything else about the core gameplay of FFXIV that didn't fit with your preconceived notions

Bringing a game up to Standard does not equal WoW. The only thing that's being like WoW "If anything" is the technical aspects of the game ( Server/UI Responsiveness etc). and besides the people that say " Its Wow with a FF skin on it" well let me turn around and say, " Having Quests with enriching storyline is what you mean by (FF Skin) then I'll gladly take that"

Thats good, i'm not a huge fan of the flat black ui (2.0's - not including chat dialog box).

I like immersive UI or iconic, the current UI is neither.

What are you talking about...? The current UI is immersive as hell.

I get immersed in it for hours at a time trying to find the one freaking item I'm looking for.

I like my UI's as Minimalistic as possible, in which case the current UI is acceptable things that could go are the exp bar, the minimap, the Moon phase and the send/receive. if the action bar didn't already take two clicks to activate, i would hide it. but then thats another click.

as for inventory management the game is in sore need of meta tagging

If it's not included officially I'm sure it'll be one of the first player add-ons to pop up. Sadly it'll probably receive the most downloads too.

Nope, XI is based on EQ (original, base systems wise) and did much much different in many regards which is why it succeeded, XI would have failed if it was a flatout clone, which is why pretty much every "WoW Clone" fails, doesn't even try to do something new or different, just "hey if we copy this we can make a ton of money"...it works for the first month, then well we see what happens.

Rift even tried to directly compete and well as said, we seen what happens lol. XIV wouldn't succeed even if it was an XI clone because the damage is already done, it has to be it's own entity while taking what works from it's predecessor since it didn't succeed and last 10 years out of "luck" or anything.

I would not consider FFXI a clone of EQ at all. I've played both and both play very different.

Game need better textures/lighting/shadowing in some spots and less 1 solid colors.

It doesn't look cartoony at all O.o and its just pre-alpha everything has more life and colors are amazing .. current version hurts your eyes if you are not wearing shades lol so much unneeded brightness

lol, i have the opposite problem with the current version. I play it on my 46in TV in my living room and if it is daylight outside i can hardly see anything on my screen, its even worse when its nighttime in game or i'm in a cave. and with no options for gamma correction or brightness sliders, i'm forced to only play after dark. thankfully i'm in canada so its starting to come earlier now ;)

I really don't mind if its a little more "cartoony" I just want the movement thing addressed. I like backing up like in the videos but only when locked on a target when you unlock "movement down key/or controller should allow my guy to turn and take off running.... AND it should look like it does now. I'm having a little bit of a hard time understanding adding jump purely for cosmetic reasons to take something so simple out that made it aesthetically pleasing.

FFXI is not a clone of EQ..but the devs and producer themselves said they used EQ as inspiration for FFXI. :)

Also I don't mind the "cartoony" look or whatever is going on with FFXIV. I like the anime/sorta realistic look the characters faces have. Well anyways the game is not finished yet so I'll reserve judgement until they show us something and say "Okay guys this is the final stuff, what do you think?"
