Well with duty finder and cross servers the baggage you claim comes along with being a bad player doesn't happen anymore or have very little effect if any or we wouldn't be having this discussion. The paser option I wouldn't mind some would use it I would use it, but the game design itself also has blame to go around as well the learn curve is just as bad Imo.

Nobody do endgame content in Duty finder, other content it really doesn't matter if that one ninja is doing low DPS because the content is casual and you're playing with that person once and that's it.

But the issue here is people doing Savage fights weaving 6 oGCDs because they don't care about being carried in PF.

Savage content is also used in cross server party finder which I put into the duty finder category, because you still don't know the party's skill level is until you enter which I think most people use. If it was all same sever then its most likely a static to begin with which you applied for and would become known for being bad pretty fast and this would have a larger impact on that player to get better if their serious about doing this type of content.

But for me I stop even bother with end game the reward structure is boring to me too even bother mostly play story know and then go play eso or swtor this game to vertical for my taste. /Shrugs

The problem about the low performing players will resolved itself eventually. As the decent players will fall more and more into statics or avoid PF as much as possible, the players used to being carried will be stuck with one another with no player to carry them. I helped that myself this patch as I was so sick of it, I didn't use PF at all for the whole duration of 4.1.

The reason I say ONLY endgame, is because of the fact that the endgame bosses have a wipe timer. If we took away the wipe timer, and it was just a matter of repeating mechanics, it wouldn't be a big deal because you could kill it in 40min and be okay. But since the timer is shortened to 11-14min on savage, parsing is a factor that needs to be played into the groups overall dps. I don't think I've had to kick too many bad players with low dps, but if you're not willing to put in the effort for the content and raising your damage, then you're slowing our group down.

I can understand that not many people want to think of this as a second job, and I can agree with that. I don't either, but I know that if I do content not suited for most people, I'm gonna get serious about it and make sure I'm doing damn good. And would rather feel achieved with a good group who understands mechanics, dodges and prevents death, but also knows clearing the floor level and not being carried. I hate carrying people who don't know what they're doing lol.

If you're not willing to put in the time and effort for the savage content and endgame stuff, then don't play it. If you expect hand outs, then you're gonna get chewed out (by someone) in the group or lead. Play with your friends if it's such a big issue. But otherwise, don't play the content that's not suited for casual play, if you feel you're not wanting to put in the effort that 7 others are also trying to do as well. It's a group effort piece of content. Not a single solo duty. Per Terms of Service, kicking players for slowing down the play and disrupting play for 7 other people is legal to kick.

The guy on the original post is a douchecanoe. You'll see that often. Just gotta get past those people though. There's always gonna be a bunch of those no matter the game.

That's what we been saying all along. The boss has a wipe timer. I don't care if someone is bad in dungeons, unless they are super bad and it's like playing on a level 50/60 standar, then that's another thing. when you are lvl 70. However you have to be very special to be bad in dungeons, because it all just requires 2-3 buttons to aoe :). Also the guy on the screenshot on the picture never mentioned parser, he also posted in this thread and explain what happened. Some people won't read through the thread, which is understandable, but however... the guy never mentioned parser or kicked the MCH lol

Yes, that'd be correct, but on a superficial level, it also helps anywhere else. But imo, say you're practicing a job out. You might want to run it through dungeons either for gear/leveling purposes or ex primals. The parser under these conditions would help you to start tunning your rotation in order to achieve a decent level of profiency. Same with sitting in a training dummy. You don't want to learn your job during raid, that's for sure.

It's a guide, extra data never hurts. Now if people DEMAND certain degree of DPS, well, that's up to them. Right off the top of my head "skip soar or disband", you can filter the poor performers instead of trashing the whole group because one or more people. If people are farming primals, they want to do it the fastest way possible and that requires players that are good. inb4 people interpret this as "OMG PURFFFECT PLAY AGAIN YOU ELITIST". No *SLAPS* NO! "Good" as in "people that got their rotation down" and "know how to play their job" and "are not dead weight for the group", like the DPS on the OP's fflogs: Both the tanks and the healers were carrying the DPS in that group, do you think that's fair? but you already covered that when you spoke about its utility in raid content. However, I am sure this also happens in Ex trials, which you excluded.

The tool can be used completely or partially, depending on the content you're running. It's always amusing to measure your own performance and comparte it to the rest of the group. For better or worse, it's there.

LOL skip soar or disband. In-game parser with showing average parses would have DEFINITELY helped there. Most of the groups I was in had decent dpses maybe lower than normal ilvl but their dps was good enough, and had MASSIVE tank or healer dps problems, but the DPS ALWAYS got blamed while tanks/healers were toxic. There were tanks hitting 1/4 of what they should be hitting (-1500 dps) or healers not even dpsing AT ALL that would call the DPS "shit" because they weren't skipping soar. Can't call them out because they'll ban you for mentioning their dps.

DPS is a GROUP responsibility, dps is just more responsible for it. Just like keeping hate is a GROUP responsibility the tank is just more responsible for it. You don't not pop diversion take hate or spam cure III take agro and not pop lucid, then call the tank "shit" .

Ok, so you hit enrage, that immediately tells you a few possible likelyhoods

1) Your group is undergeared
2) Your group is taking to much damage or dying to mechanics to much to have proper damage output
3) Your group DPS is to low due to people not understanding their classes.

Now, pragmatically you should be able to easily tell if youre properly geared or not. You should also easily tell if youre group is taking to much damage or dying to often. So the only real 'unknown' is your damage output, which stems from knowing your class and rotations IF the other two are not a factor.

Parsers can help you identify which members of your group are not performing as well, but the parser in of itself does not have any bearing on the fight directly or indirectly.

You can beat savage content without one. It's not as easy, but you can. You could go into any Savage tier and do the fight without any parsers running and still clear it.

So the point you should not be arguing is "We need this for savage content!" because you do not. You dont NEED a parser. You WANT a parser because its a QoL addition that will help you clear content EASIER.

Enrage timers exist so you cant outsustain a boss to beat it. You have a time frame you need to beat the boss in. If you reach enrage, it means one of those 3 factors are in play. And as for steering clear, it does not appear they have to, as they themselves have not added it to the game. They must either see the negatives of parsers being more prevalent than the positives, or that the issue is not that big for them to add it in in the first place.

Again, its a QoL that people want one. Not a necessity. And that QoL is not one SE wants to hand over readily for some reason. This could very well be SE telling the player base parsers arent necessary to beat content, but people are to reliant on them possibly as a crutch? I dont know, speculating there.

Whilst we might not need parsers to beat Savage directly, do keep in mind that 'high end' play wouldn't be anything like as optimised or clear cut without the data gleaned from parsers at some point.

Would this be a big deal now given how watered down Savage is these days? Maybe not, but it'd certainly be a very significant impact on more dot centric jobs where a significant portion of your damage never makes it to the chat log.

You can have a whole party with the maximum ilvl (since yoshi-p seems to think that's all it requires or best instead of best in slot), and still be okay, which is in fact the opposite. Otherwise, there'd be no point in endgame gear if stat weights didn't matter in terms of Crit/DH and Determination with food + overmelds. You can also try to beat the savage content with maximum ilvl in just the gear from tomes (no savage gear), fully melded and upgraded to 340 (or no melds), no wipes, and still be short on damage because stat weights play the same role as the player who understands their job, rotation and the boss mechanics.

I shall complete the answer with: Yes, I (myself) say it's a strong recommendation (your words), as opposed to being a requirement.

And before I come across as being toxic or such, yes my comments are based on experience. My casual-midcore group for Gordias-Midas outright wouldn't have been able to clear A4S (and likely wouldn't have even gotten A3S) without the use of parsers to get us past the DPS barriers we faced. We didn't call people out and promptly kick them, rather we worked as a team to make DPS opportunities where we could with the skills we had.

47 pages later and the general consensus is that bad players will continue to be bad while good players and potentionally good players want the visual means to improve themselves.

Look, in yonder days with games like FFXI, accountability was handled naturally. If a player sucked, they wouldn't gain XP as fast, they'd struggle to level, and if they were bad enough, groups would stop inviting them (or a BLM would Warp II them without warning). Because there wasn't a Duty Finder, because there was no cross-world partying, people had to be somewhat careful not make so many mistakes that word got around. The harshness of the game world and death penalties also imposed significant incentives for improvement.

In FFXIV, this doesn't happen. You don't need to worry at all about your reputation in any context outside of a Static; there's absolutely no challenge posed by the overworld or standard dungeons to force improvement; there are no real penalties for crappy solo play. The only incentive is getting forcibly removed from groups via kick-votes. That's what keeps tanks somewhat honest, and it's what keeps healers somewhat honest; do a bad job there, cleave the group repeatedly, let people die all the time, and you'll be removed from the party.

For damage dealers, on the other hand, there's no easy way to check this. Unless someone's paying attention via 3rd-party utilities, or is familiar enough with the job and paying attention enough to know the player's rotation is awful, bad damage dealers simply don't stand out enough, especially in larger groups.

That has to be fixed. Maybe it's not through a parse, per se; SE could introduce certain status icons that indicate how well someone's executing their standard combos, keeping their DoT spells up, and dodging AoE mechanics. Do a bad job, it turns red; do a good job, it's green; yellow for average. Maybe the solution is a parser. I don't know. But what I do know is that there has to be some mechanism introduced that alerts a party to poor damage dealers. That's not elitism - it's simply expecting people to do their job, and do it properly.

I would say parsing is necessary for progressing savage content just because there IS an enrage timer and the game fails to tell you that if you are ready for it. The enrage timer on extreme is basically none existing now and 4 men/24 men contents just require some knowledge for mechanics. For a new player that just hit 70 and done all content except savage, it is cruel that he/she are likely to be kicked/blacklisted after few attempts because of the poor design of the game. I've met some players doing abysmal DPS on savage and I believe most of them don't even know. SSS dummy fight is far from enough for meeting DPS check in real fight, not to mention that the fight isn't even gated behind SSS.

IMO, not having a parser is what breeds toxicity in this game. Imagine you are a player that finally finished the savage tier after months of pugging. One day you are farming O2S but somehow being told your DPS is low and asked to leave. What would be your first thought? I need to get better? probably not. It's more than likely that you think those players are elitist that ruining the game by parsing. But the thing you don't know is that you've been carried through the whole tier without knowing it. And suddenly stating the fact is considered a toxic behavior even though you are the one ruining others' experience. In this case the guy is lucky to get the clear. There are more people that are still struggling to clear the content without knowing that they are the reason for enrage. What will these people think when they see so many groups clear each week but theirs. They might straight out quit doing the content, even the game. Or potentially become toxic toward everyone struggling on the content easier than he is doing, even the people haven't seen enrage on same content. Isn't it sad how these happen just because the game doesn't inform you of such important thing?

However, for those who know their damage is bad but refuse to improve at all, you are the toxic one and you have no one but yourself to blame when you are booted for bad DPS. First, you think others are responsible for picking up your slack, if they refuse to do so they are getting reported/blacklisted. Secondly, why would you think others' are at fault for kicking you? You are kicked because SE allow players to do so. Blame SE for that. Lastly, SE granted the player the right to form the party they want and you know what kind of party you are joining beforehand. Blame yourself or SE.

DPS is absolutely not the most important factor in a raid. But dpsing is everyones job, when you are failing to meet the very basic requirement for the clear as your role, you deserve the kick in a clear/farm party. Again, that is not toxic, it is you that trying to ruin others' game experience and wasting their time. You should be paying their subs then, also, pay for their extra effort if they're not having fun. In OP's case, Healers and Tanks are carrying the group, a lot. If everyone is doing the DPS at OP's level, there will be no clear.

I saw some people think all us parsers want in party are speedrun level dps. I'd say that you are overestimating your skill and majority of players'. No one expect speedrun level dps in a farm party, they just expect "acceptable dps" for your ilvl. If you are kicked from farm party I can only assume that you are doing far, far, far from speedrun level dps.

I have mixed feelings on this because even if the game does a poor job of teaching this stuff there ARE ample resources out there that will at least help get people to an acceptable level. People who want to play well can take the initiative to seek out the information they're missing.

A lot of those people who are doing things wrong in savage are confrontational and rude when any attempt is made to push them in the correct direction. I've seen PLDs explode in anger when told that they're expected to OT, a RDM argue over giving up a melee positional spot on O3S, etc. I don't believe it's simply a lack of availability of knowledge, but a lack of desire to change and adapt in their gameplay.

To be fair though, SE also thought:

1) Diadem was good
2) Diadem 2.0 was good
3) LoV was good
4) Gordias was tested and tuned well
5) WAR was good in early ARR and PLD was good in HW
6) Eureka would be out in a timely manner

I could keep going, but I hope you get my point. They aren't impervious to being wrong, so when they say parsers would be bad (whether explicitly or implicitly), it's hard for me to trust their judgment without reproach.

Personally speaking - I have NO data to back this up - If parsers were implemented and harassment appropriately punished as it is now, I see more pros than cons.

We've seen in it this very thread where a player was like "you know I didn't care before, but I decided to try it out and WoW I had no idea I was so bad". I've already improved X% and am working on going even further!"

Alternatively, I imagine if I was a bad/ignorant player and I consistently saw myself at the bottom of the food chain, I'd do something to fix it. NO one wants to be the bottom. They'll either fix it, or leave. When faced with that option here's what I see:

1) They'll fix it by getting better, be it asking mentors, FC mates, outside of game research, etc.

2) They'll fix it by sticking with people they know where performance isn't expected and they're personal issues are known and accommodated.

1 is good, 2 is good, and 3 is unfortunate. I PERSONALLY believe that if they're that pressed to leave the game over something like this, it's incredibly likely they weren't going to stick around anyway.

One resource if examined and time taken to apply it in a logical manner should provide a fairly solid basis for a job's rotation....
The tooltips.

I'm pretty sure I could, if given a new job and time to logic my way through the tooltips, come up with a passable rotation.
Of course, I'm not going to come up with the most optimal use of cooldowns, but the basic rotations aren't that difficult for the most part.

Highly debatable. People who are jerks will continue to be jerks regardless of a parse. In fact, they already use ACT to bully but just are careful to avoid mentioning numbers.
