Please lift glamour restrictions!

I would have rolled a Dark Knight at level 1. Unfortunately, it's barred behind both the main game's content and five and a half patches of story content. Even the same, warrior is not marauder. Paladin has to play through conjurer and yet does not retain a wand. Dragoon plays through marauder, and it too changes weapons.

I vanished from this thread because the back and forth was getting absolutely ridiculous, but this... just doesn't follow at all. Please don't turn my request into something it absolutely is not. I am in NO WAY asking for the removal of jobs or armor sets designed around a particular job theme and pretending that I'm asking for that is disingenuous at best.

You don't lose a feature just because someone can glamour a piece of gear that they got from a quest.

You actually do. You lose the theme behind said gear, you lose the visual effect, you lose the meaning behind said gear, you lose what that piece of gear originally represented. You lose the identity. Anyone that tries to sell it otherwise is being dishonest at the absolute best.

You lose the ability to wear job gear if there is no such thing as job gear. The proposal is to keep the gear we currently recognize as job gear but take away its job association and instead make it (at least its appearance, which is all that matters for this purpose anyway) into generic "All Classes" gear. Instead of the Dragoon AF, for example, showing that you're a Dragoon, it would only show that you like spiky stuff. Outfits that can display your job would be a thing of the past.

You're acting like we'd still have gear designed around a job theme, but once the same outfits can be worn equally by any job, there'd really no longer be any such thing as a job theme, at least not visually. So what, we'd be able to wear gear and remember when that style used to be associated with our job? That's a far cry from being able to wear gear that is associated with a job, and which can identify us as being on that job.

(Also, not all the AF gear comes from quests. The i90 sets are available as a trade in from a dungeon drop. I think the AF2 sets are tome purchases. And DoH/DoL AF can be bought off the Market Board. For any of those, you can collect the set for any class/job you feel like, even if you've never even unlocked it, let alone leveled it. Currently, there's no reason to do so, since you'd need the job to be able to use its AF, but with unrestricted glamour, people would.)

He is not saying that you want the theme gear removed or for SE to cease creating it, he was saying your request removes the feature of 'unique to one job only' gear. If the all gear can be worn/glamoured by all jobs then it removes the feature of having pieces of gear that only one specific job can wear/glamour. It no longer exists so it is therefore lost.

I realize you personally do not care for the feature in question, but that doesn't somehow make it so your suggestion isn't removing anything. You just think it doesn't because you don't like the feature so personally you feel nothing was lost. Factually though? Yeah, something was removed: pieces of gear that are only wearable and glamourable by one job only.

I am not sure how you can argue a fact? It isn't just an opinion or question...something is factually lost by your suggestion even if you don't personally care about what it is that was lost.

Devs have already spoken on this part anyways. It's most likely not gonna happen, and I understand you couldn't give a crap about the lore, but I believe, the point is, players want to preserve what the devs (the creators, otherwise) already have created.

For the original classes and jobs. The job is literally a specialization of the base class designed for group content. Been that way since 1.21. Which is why the lore for the majority of them is written as a lost specialization rediscovered. If WAR was not a specialization of MRD then it wouldn't have inherited all its traits, actions, and weapon.

SE clearly stated with its introduction: "the new job system focuses on growing and strengthening the main character class."

This will be even more relevant when SE changes cross-class abilities into universal role abilities.

I know you want more options and I've said over and over I respect that opinion and I understand why some people want more. I also believe though that there are good reasons to keep some traditions and some job locked gear.

I've said already that I compromise that sure we can unlock that 95% of the gear in the game for all to use. I just feel there are good reasons to keep that 5% of job locked gear (someone did the math earlier in the topic) that was made in a traditional FF style to stay locked to those jobs they represent.

5% is not all restrictions maintained. It is only 5% of the restrictions maintained. So why are you responding to me about my opinions when you didn't read most of my posts? You don't actually know where I stand about the topic according to this response.

Even if you ignore the fact that opinions alone do not force anything on anyone you cannot just say we are forcing something on you without realizing you are doing the exact same thing. Which is what I already tried to tell you by flipping the words in the quote in my earlier post.

Maybe an example will help you understand because I don't know how else to make you see what it is you are posting.

For example lets say we share a cottage and say I have the power to do whatever I wanted and I decide I want to change something. If you don't agree with what I want to change, but then I change it anyway then I forced it on you. Say you have the power to do whatever you want and you decide to change something that I don't agree with, but you change it anyway. Then you forced it on me.

Get it now? As soon as someone doesn't agree with your changes in a shared environment and you do it anyway then you forced it on them, end of story. This is why it is hypocrisy for you to label the opposing side as such because your side is doing the exact same thing. SE is the only one with the power to force anything on us though so this is just an example if you ignore that fact.

So AGAIN, no one in this thread on either side is forcing anything on anyone else because none of us has the power to do that. We just all have different opinions.

When adapting this to the current subject, i have to ask, how invested are you in this game?

Simply put this game is often accused of catering to its fan base with over use of fan service call backs to the FF series. There is a reason for that. It was those same die hard fans who care for the nuanced history, story telling, world, feel of the game that pulled it through 1.0 and helped shape it to the game you all left your other games with their "freedoms" for.

To say the opinions of those that are happy with the system as is, mater less or are some how wrong is very near factually wrong. Time and again the developers themselves have stated that FFXIV is important to the franchise, as is keeping it's identity for the fans that make it what it is. You need only look to the monumental restructuring done to fix FFXIV from it's launch. If you don't care about that then i sincerely do not think i can communicate with you, we simply speak different languages.

Every class in the game can look like cloud strife if they've spent two years in game. Doing that obstructs the "recreation" which you think so highly of. What makes that okay, but transmogging other stuff not?

Cloud Strife is iconic in the sense that Final Fantasy 7 is one of the most popular games in the franchise, but it's still just one character from one game (and to nitpick, the outfit isn't even from the game, it's from the Advent Children movie).
On the other hand, an iconic job like White Mage isn't just from one game, it's an iconic job in the entire franchise. It's pretty much multiple steps above the Cloud Strife gear.

Why do you feel the need to be able to glamour a job-iconic set (like the WHM AF gear), onto the gear of a job that's completely unrelated to WHM?

I want to glamour fullplate. Why does my glamouring fullplate as a dragoon or a machinist disrupt your gameplay?

It doesn't. You can already glamour a few fullplate sets, and most of us asking to preserve the AF glamour restrictions are also asking that you should get more fullplate options to glamour.

On the other hand, glamouring Paladin AF gear as a dragoon or machinist would disrupt the game, because then the Paladin job wouldn't have any visual style to it, and would lose a great deal of its identity in the process.

It wouldn't disrupt the game. It wouldn't stop gameplay in any way. To be clear, I don't really support class specific sets being transmogged by all classes. But if you want to argue that it shouldn't be allowed, using a true argument would stand on better legs than disrupting gameplay.

Now, I do want to transmog swords as a warrior. And I finally have my case. Raubahn is a warrior and he dualwielded two swords. There's no class in the game but warrior who rages out. His nickname is even a beast's name.

Give warriors sword transmogs.

I have no idea where you got the idea that Raubahn is a WAR, he's always been stated as a GLA in both lore/backstory and gameplay (he owns the GLA Guild for one). And we've already been over why WAR will not get a sword glamour or classes/Jobs will not be able to equip another weapon type, as it completely violates the very backbone of the class system used in this game, the Armoury System, where your weapon is your class and thus identifies it.

I get that you want to play as a FFXII Archadian Judge, that's fine, you just have to understand that FFXIV's class system locks each weapon type to a class and there is no crossover and simply does not allow you to use one class's weapon on another class. And that goes for glamour as well for the reasons I've already mentioned. I'm not trying to attack you here and if it seems that way, I am sorry, but your comment about Raubahn needed correcting, as he is a GLA and has always been one.

And another concept that seems to fly over your head as well as many others is that gameplay isn't so simple as you want to put it. Gameplay encompasses all aspects of a game that create an experience as a whole. This includes visual elements. Certain aesthetics can appear jarring to players and disrupt a sense of world or immersion that the rest of the game works to establish. Disrupting that sense of immersion is disrupting an element of the gameplay. If you cannot hold a very strong suspension of disbelief, seeing someone running around like they're attending a rave or night party, or seeing a chosen warrior tank a behemoth in a maid's outfit, then they would find themselves finding it hard to appreciate the game at its full value. I'm a bit of a prude and would prefer not to see such overly garish outfits, but y'all flex your creative muscles where the game lets you. That said, a line needs to be drawn and at the very least needs to be drawn to the very sets that define the aesthetic and nature of a job. The very sets that make a player feel like that job. Allowing other jobs to glamour those sets would make it feel disingenuous and take away a very specific feeling of playing that job.

Besides even that, there is an ever expanding library of equipment at a player's disposal for glamour purposes, and often will you see generic gear that was once tied to one job now recycled for another. I would even side for allowing generic gear for any job to be unrestricted without need of recycled sets. There shouldn't be some need to justify why there should be one set of gear per expansion being specific to a job to provide a sense of iconic imagery. You can have your huge pile of junk to mix and match, but leave that one thing alone for those few, that's all that should be to it.

Not trying to nitpick or anything, but the lorebooks states Raubahn is adept in "Ancient Ala Mhigan Bladedancing" and he did use two swords. And fire magic. If anything he is an unannounced or unobtainable job. But a warrior he is not.

Nothing's stopping you from playing WHM and wearing the AF robe, or just idling in it if you don't feel like doing content as WHM at that point.

For other jobs, there's plenty of other pretty looking robes.

It's one thing if you don't care about the story or lore in this game. It is another to make an uneducated statement regarding lore to use as counter argument. Then call the opposition's arguments not "true". Especially when their statements are backed by the lore of this game, and the Developer's creative decisions with the armory system.

Best just to stick with what you actually know. Raubahn is not a WAR per Lore.

Given how the game works with animations, it would look HORRIBLE. Trust me, even if they did do this just to humour you, you would be swinging a sword like you would an axe, and it'd look beyond dumb.

Well, since you say that. How bout finding the quote that states that he gave into his inner beast? To me it just looked like he got a bit angry. Giving in to your inner beast makes you attack anyone in sight. Raubahn was still purposefully attacking those who wrought him wrong. Not any random member of the party.

I had retired from this thread but, but I cant believe its still going strong, that being said I feel even more strongly about mixing the gear than before simply based on poor game design. How can the game want to make specific gear but then on the other hand force u pretty much to share the highest optimal gear that you have per job. You cant be this lazy in my opinion if you want the job specific gear to mean something then you need to at least let us glamour it per job.

So basically if your a tank with how the system is set up now you can only have one job specific look you cant for instance have on all shire gear and then give your warrior a full set, and then try to give your pali a job specific set to. So basically it just leaves this gear as another piece of glamour that holds no significance because the game doesn't even allow you to glamour it per job unless you wear all different sets of gear to do so. So if the game is gona have a system that bad, then its no need to lock the gear behind a wall that they are basically saying doesn't even matter, because of their very on game design they make it to where you cant even wear full on job specific gear per job anyway.

Curious Gorge didn't attack everyone in sight. Neither do you when you give into your inner beast.

Some restrictions could be lifted, likeletting caster/healer share and all melee share.

But Curious gorge did attempt to attack. Thats what the lvl 50 quest is all about, taming the beast. Broken Mountain had also given in to the inner beast, thats why he was the villain of the line.

The level 50 quest is not the only quest wherein Curious Gorge gives into his inner beast. He does it on the beach versus crabs to save you and ..................................... that one woman. He does it again in tideport or whatever and scares the little girl. The town elder informs you he'll have a sit down with her parents to make sure they understand Curious Gorge would never hurt anyone.

2/3 times is pretty good. Either way, in Raubahn's movie thing when he rages out Ilberd calls him some berserker title, like the wild bull or whatever.

A Warrior (job) is a specific branch of abalathian hellsguard warteaching.

A warrior calls upon the aether in themselves, getting drunk on it, mad. It is called the inner beast becuase the hellsguards were primitive and didnt excactly know that its just aether. Same way a monks chakras are just aether as explained by erik, while the monks thought they were deeply spiritual they just harnessed aether in their fists. Just like an Abalathian warriro uses aether in their axe-swings.

Every single magical thing in eorzea is caused by aether.

Raubahn used no aether in the hallroom. he just go fed up with the bullshit and striked at the potato.

Being angry doesn't make you a warrior. Gaining power from being angry makes you a warrior. He kicked a pillar, broke it, and sent it flying at his friend.

Raubahn is the Bull of Ala Mhigo. It is not an inner beast reference at all. It is title gained from his victories in the Coliseum. That is why it is referenced by Ilberd.

Raubahn is consumed over the "loss of the Sultana" and is goaded the entire time until his breaking point. He even lost his arm for it, an attack he would easily block in his normal state. Ilberd even mocks him for it.

Any character in this game can be consumed by Rage over tragic loss or betrayal. We have seen it with other NPCs. Does not make them Warriors.

This is why in the case of special NPCs, with unique abilities, ppl refrain from labeling them to a specific job. Tizona isn't a normal sword either, it is cursed and has special powers only unique to the blade.
