Good thing we don't owe SE our money either. Company entitlement at its peak.
They are if you actually bothered to read the thread and the conclusion that they can keep charging for stuff as long as they announce it well in advance, unlike they've done so so far announcing their monetization plans a week before the implemented feature is added, and after that feature had been hyped for over a year with no mention at all that part of that advertised feature would be monetized upon. Which is, you know, the main concern for a lot of people.
:)
It's the principle.
The game operates on a Pay to Play scheme. For $13-$15 a month, I expect to be able to experience all that the game has to offer. P2P was actually made the game appealing to me because I knew I wouldn't have to deal with Pay to Win or Cash Shops. Yes, I am entitled because I paid money for it.
That said, I am reserving my judgement until it has been confirmed that SE will be charging real money for the Gold Plan. For all we know, the Gold Plan may cost us gil, which is really how it is supposed to be.
Monthly subs are the rental for accessing their servers if you actually bothered to read the ToS. Under 4. BILLING PROCEDURES AND RECURRING TRANSACTIONS
"In order to access SQUARE ENIX's servers to play the Game, you must agree to a recurring subscription ("Subscription") with a minimum subscription term of 30 days, and pay a recurring subscription fee ("FFXIV Subscription Fee")"
Hmm... don't see the part where they said it includes whatever you feel that you're entitled to. Oh right, the link: http://support.na.square-enix.com/ru...2&tag=users_en
Oh look!! It is also highlights additional features!!
"Further, Square Enix may offer you the chance to purchase additional features for your FFXIV Service Account, which we call "Add-ons" or "Options." Add-ons may be subject to either additional recurring fees or one-time fees. A "Recurring Fee" is a fee that will be charged on a recurring basis until you terminate your subscription. A "One-Time Fee" is fee that is only charged once."
I guess this thread is the result of people not reading what they agreed to before they signed up and paid for the game :(
TL;DR: You paid subs to access their server to play the game, not for the additional features.
yeah, sure, let's make the last economic model fair become a milk cow.... dude you know that you simply tell them go rips more your player.
seriously, i dunno when you did begin the mmorpg.... and that the most big trouble a lot of the modern player are simply coming from the....free to play model and find normal to be overcharge for everything. here the point of the subs model was to make more fair community, the only stuff that can affect what you can or cannot do, it's yourself and your dedication... not the size of your wallet.
sorry i will be blunt and rude... but the cash shop is only a despicable way to simply get more cash... now i wonder if they make a game for money or if they make money for game.
i'm still waiting to see what it will be really and the reason behind the cash shop part (if they really do this) because... if them explanation are not good, you can be sure that some people will simply destroy them reputation and place them at the same level than some company like EA. indeed this company make tons of cash true, but they have the worst reputation around.
anyway, i will wait but i don't hope a lot from tomorrow patch note.
ps: by the way, we are at 24 hours of the patch and still no information on the coming feature? if i was paranoid i will say that they aren't really confident about this plan.
Seriously, you're still trying to argue your way out of the ToS which you agreed to? It was your mistake for not reading the ToS, accepting it and went ahead paying for the subscription. Then now you're complaining on the forum for what you have agreed to. Like seriously?
Please. Go. Read. The. Freaking. Terms. Of. Service. Everything was written in Black and White. You agreed to it.
Summery of the OF when it comes to housing, cash shop, and pretty much everything SE creates....
Anything you pay REAL $$ for: "OMG PAY 2 WIN, SE TRYING TO GOUGE US FOR ALL OUR MONEY!" "LEGACY SCUMBAGS DID THIS TO US AND THEIR EXTRA RETAINERS!" "YOU'RE RUINING MY IMMERSION!"
Anything you pay large sums of gil for: "OMG SE ONLY CARES ABOUT THE 1%, LEGACY SCUMBAGS WITH GIL, AND RMT!"
Something free for everyone: "OMG I'M NOT A SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE SE." "THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE SPECIAL FOR ONLY ME AND MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER!"
You guys always find a way to be upset ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
exept that this part of the terms was changed right before of the add of the retainer, and more important we had some promise to not see this sort of stuff.
other point what is the interest to pay a subs every month if at the end we need to pass by the cash shop for get acces to some content?
the subs allows you to have acces to the whole game, it's too in the terms of usage, you get acces to the the software and all the content added or corrected later.
finally, and i will use an image quite violent... slavery was too legal and part of the laws, it don't change the fact it was despicable as manner to act. (it's not at the same level, but the principe behind it's the same)
for make it simple, they can add option and addon, it's legal and part of the terms, it don't change the fact it's despicable as change in the way the game was until the 2.4. (actually did begin with the 2.2)
what is amazing it's how people give quite interesting argument and the people against simply don't give any good argument i still wait to see one that is revelant of why do this sort of add?
because that the point, why they need to make us double charge for a content developped with the subs and advertised for long (since before the release of ARR)?
because at all the people saying they need more cash for increase the quality of the game, i will answer, they had get tons of cash, sadly it was not used in FF14 most of it! a lot of cash was used for other game than FF14. that why we still get bad server!
and by the way, it was proved (by SE himself) that the game did get a loooot of profit and had a large impact on the society recently. then why now ask us to pay stuff in the cash shop, outside the fact to be greedy and want to get more cash.
honestly if the cash was really for the game, i will say ok, why not. but soo far i haven't seen anything going in this sense.
u_u Accept this has been in the ToS since the beginning (even in 1.0 mind you)

I've been lurking for quite a while in this thread, and I must say it's reached new highs. lol.
I for one, will go on the lesser side of the fence and say I'm actually pleased to see a premium wedding service added to the game which I can buy with real $$$. I think people have different ways of looking at it when it comes to what they are willing to spend and what they /want/ to spend and of course how people budget their RL funds. I work my job so I can spend extra money on whatever SE wants to throw at me (and yes, if I want it bad enough I will spend a good sum of money on it- even if that means over $100+). While it might be a minority, I'm sure there are others like myself willing to drop a decent amount on vanity & cash shop- and if SE wants to take advantage of that, by all means be my guest. I work in the visual effects industry now, and before in the gaming industry- if they feel they can make a profit, a company most certainly will. Plus, most the time I'm more than happy to pay extra to support a game and company I love. Long as I don't see high end game raiding items in the cash shop- I'm a happy cat.
So thank you SE, I fully support your cash shop and your premium wedding implementation.
If you're playing the game now it means you accepted the latest version of ToS. However, as mentioned by the kind legacy (I assume) poster below. It was even in 1.0.
For players who are currently playing the game/have access to the game and is complaining about paying for additional optional features (I can't stress how many times I have mentioned that it is optional). You accepted the latest Terms of Service and agreed to it. This thread is actually totally pointless by this fact alone because it has already been clearly defined in the ToS which you all have accepted.
People are surprised that a TOS gets changed? This happens all the time with many online games (or even just games getting downloaded in general).
People act like this is the ONLY mmorpg that has a cash shop that sells mounts, minions, and other things not content related in terms of raiding.
Look at WoW... there is a cash shop where you can buy mounts, pets and all types of things as long as it is not gear that can be used in progression. Many other mmos do the same thing as well. As long as it does not harm progression and is strictly vanity it usually happens.
They offer a free version. I can understand people getting mad if there was only one option, but there is not. There is two options, if YOU REALLY WANT the other one just pay for it and split it with whoever you are marrying and get all the stuff, but if not then just get the regular.
Maybe if I still keep defending my favorite game and company on their own turf I'll be rewarded for it!
And people wonder why discussions go nowhere.
I understand that alot of players do not like the Gold Plan and I agree with you guys. But this is their game and they are not forcing us to us spend money on the Gold Plan. If you want a virtual marriage, then you can do that, if you want the extra stuff, you need to pay money. Aslong as the Cash Shop users bring in alot of money for SE, you can expect this to continue with different features. Personaly I have mixed feelings about the Cash Shop, sometimes I buy the items and other times I disagree with what they are selling. Aslong as it is mounts, minions and outfits, then I dont mind. But the moment they put in hairstyles and things like jobs, colours etc. this is when I start to complain on the forum.
If you dont want to support the Gold Plan, then dont buy them. The truth is majority of the players that I know who complained about the Sleipnir mount, ended up buying them in the end. Aslong as players complain on the forum, but buy the items, you will only send SE a message that you agree with their business practice.
I have a question. Do both the players register on the mogstation for the marriage? Or just one person registers? Thank you to whoever replies! =)
I'm pretty sure you have to have both people agree to sign up.
Yeah, just wondering how it will work. I mean will my partner receive an mail in the game or a confirmation on the mogstation? I've heard from people that it is similar to the one is FF11 but we've never played it before.
It's probably like a proposal with a confirmation code. "Hey, this dude wants to marry you! Use the code if you don't want to break his heart!"
lol read! You DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT!!! There is a Free one!!!OMG AND if you want the dam mount there is a PAYED ONE!!! No one is putting a dam gun to you're head and telling you to pay is there?
In the end SE will lower are take it off if player end up not paying for it.... sooner or l8te it iwll drop or go free for the Mount one >.>
Eternal Bond now up in MogStation. Costs 7 and 14 euros in my account. I was giving Square the benefit of the doubt until the last minute...
SMH.
Soo... yeah I was right, if you buy the top package, you get 'priority' in scheduling your event...+ all the goodies. Which also implies that those who do not fork over the 20 dollars (including those that only buy the 10 dollar plan), also happen to be at the mercy for scheduling options for those that do. So now will you all listen?
https://scontent-b-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/...a0&oe=5509BAAF
Well... it also requires that the platinum plan party both be online in a party together at 1:00am PST on Friday in order to get that "priority" (as Gold priority is at 2am and everyone else at 3, with rescheduling at 4), so I question just how much competition there will be after the first few weeks rush. And also, on International servers, there's more likely to be a time spread of "good times", unlike perhaps Japan where everyone's in the same time zone. I get what you're saying about the precedent, but in practice I'm not sure how big of an issue it'll be except on the busiest servers in the early days.
28€ for a wedding, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
Sweet. I'm happy the prices are reasonable. I bought my platinum wedding.
Just realized, the Bracelet is tradeable, meaning people can make gil selling this stuff in-game.
This game has now officially become Pay to Win.
But there's a free one too. I mean this isn't as bad as i was thinking it was going to be. Yeah you get a bit better stuff for the paid but at least you can get married without needing to pay extra. As long as the content isn't 100% behind a paywall I think this is tolerable.
In order for it to be pay to WIN there has to be something you are actually able to win by buying it. It's just a vanity item. You can't take this item, buy it, and go win some content or pwn noobs in the frontlines.
