Confusion: Archer to Bard? Where is the Ranger Job?

Any assumptions that have been made by anyone wishing to continue playing a ranged DD in regards to BRD, have been made based on the fact that BRD has always been a support character, and SE has stated that they wanted to add a support to the game.

That's not to say they shouldn't, just because people want to continue to play archer, the need to add both options.

You know what, I think your basically saying the same thing I am here. I am totally behind players expressing there desire for a ranged DD job as an option.

My issue is with the few here claiming that it makes no sense they way they are doing it now. I have played alot of MMOs in which BRDs were bow users. So its a tough sell to convince me SE is doing it wrong.

You played MMO where BRD were bow uses at the start of the MMO correct? This is the problem right here, I'm not sure how I can be more clear. You can't change the role a year later to something completely different. Its not about waiting for them to give us the job we want its about continuing on the path that the job has been for a damn year. To me ive always wanted to be a archer/ranger, I was a ranger in FFXI and a archer in FFXIV but now year later I end up a bard? That is what doesn't make sense to me.

To go with your other point about bard being bow users in other MMO those games aren't Final Fantasy and we know what a bard does in a traditional Final Fantasy game which is the direction they said they wanted to head.

I don't understand the whole "you can't do (fill in something)" logic. I understand that it would be frustrating to play something expecting one thing and getting another. Yet, the game is still in what is effectively beta. Everyone knows that there will be changes. Jobs and classes more being more attuned to specific roles. The developers felt that they needed another support type of class and archer fit that bill. We don't know how the other DoW will pan out after the class adjustments, but maybe having a heavy hitting ranged DoW didn't fit into their vision at the moment.

Bards in FFXI effectively raised a party's level higher and/or made a bad party into a good one while also nearly eliminating any down time. If arch/bard can accomplish that as well as being a light damage dealer then they could potentially being one of the most sought after job. You might not see big damage numbers but essentially you are the biggest damage dealer and one of the best supports when all the buffs are spread out on the whole party. That type of job sounds much more useful and interesting than a ranger at the present moment in the game. There's always lancer if you're trying to see big numbers.

It's too early to tell what will happen though.

Thats just it right there. You make no sense. You are a archer, a ranged DD. They made archer something other then a ranged DD ? how did I miss this. Its not my fault that bard were completely locked out of bows in FFXI, and that they exploped if you touched one.

Stop trying to make this FFXI-II. No one is making you take the job of bard, you appear to continue to fail to understand this.

You are 100% right Coglin they do not have to play the job, but I think the argument comes down to this. Only Archer is getting a job that would appear (only because we have no info yet) to be completely different from its base class.

I like how you highlighted one sentence while completely ignoring the rest. Why do you continue the ignore the universe that is Final Fantasy and its traditional jobs role. Also ignore that developers have state they want to follow this tradition. Its why we are getting rid of Gladiator and conjurer because people complained that it didn't fit into the final fantasy universe. And that people for some reason couldn't figure out the roles of the jobs based on their abilities.

This not about making FFXI-II, when the hell did I say that? I just want a job that is traditionally a heavy DD to continue to be a that PERIOD. Sure I can go play another job and I have lancer but it just not that fun to me.


If SE said today that Gladiator specialize job would be beastmaster would that not seem odd to people?

When you reject and shun any idea or suggest that is not match FFXI. Then you go on to tell us thats why you shun and reject it.

Care to tell us where they said the bolded portion?

All we really know in regards to Archer is that it's first job will be bard. I don't doubt that this will be expanded on in the future. We should all be happy to see a buffing job put into play, haste for me!
