Why quote it all? Well that's not too hard to answer or understand. It adds context to the meaning of the post. You see, if I had only posted what you quoted, yea man that's pretty beast. Unfortunately that isn't how the world spins. It was all a singular thought process, therefore all of it should be noted.
I don't see what's so "asanine" about stating it isn't about your or my pet peeves. Such as not wanting to see people jump in a party. My comment, if you've the intellect to think abstractly, promotes viewing both sides, and if you cannot perhaps you should play titles designed for the individual.
As for you disagreeing with my "as a whole" comment, okay, I get you don't agree, fair enough. However, Yoshida said himself he wants to have XIV as the number one MMO. That simply isn't going to happen in the world market if you stay stuck to the ground. The MMO world as a whole, and not just the XI/JP market, are used to and expect free movement from a big name MMO. I'm sure you don't need me to list figures, you likely already know them.
And hey, you don't like free movement, coolbeans. I don't care to silence your or anyone else's voice on this forum, but maybe you should thicken your skin, as none of what I posted was an insult.
Man....this is so true. I have played ff11 and WoW for years and i have studied many other mmo's and if you want to please the majority you have to change some things. Putting jump in this jump isn't silly...people when they play a game want to feel like they have somewhat some freedom i mean it is a game it's suppose to be fun. WoW figured it out that is why they have over 11 million people....It can't always be about pleasing the few ff11 cult followers and I'm sure Yoshi understands this...well atleast i hope he does..he did say he planned on it being the best MMO in the world and in order for that to happen i will tell you now...it will have to have some serious fun game mechanics to pull that one off.
We are just going to have to agree to disagree, I respond to parts of a post that pertain to what I am saying, I don't like having a massive post just because I'm quoting someone elses paragraph, the quote function will lead people right to your post to read the whole thing if they are that concerned about the context of the message. I am speaking directly to you though, and you know the context of your message allready.
Considering you don't seem to think telling people to "Go play another game" is a insult I'll leave it there because you obviously don't think that was a rude and snide comment.
Also if you think "Jumping" is somehow going to make FFXIV into the best game ever and get millions of subscribers, I just can't say I share the same viewpoint.
I agree with OP. This game needs jumping and swimming.
Maybe they can add climbing of certain parts of the terrain.
Reading that snippet with Yoshida was a bit eye-opening and somewhat mind boggling. To be perfectly honest, I'm really shocked to find that people actually don't want more immersion in a game? I, for one, am glad that Yoshida is going to go through with the decision to add jumping and possibly even swimming further down the line.
My answer is obvious I don't think XIV will be doomed with/without jump, the feature means nothing to me and many others. It may lead to a few people leaving and a few people joining.
Overall it hurts the asthetic of the game to me but it's not a dealbreaker...I just prefer if it wasn't there because it doesn't add any value to me.
