I did for some reason get a kinda eastern/oriental feel of the latest art you made pip.

She just kinda had the facial structure with the mouth/jaw over it.

But as usual, your art shows the effort you put in.

though looking at it again, maybe it's the angle, that makes it look more flat faced than intended.

Welp looking at stinger for latest patch Fem Hroth are indeed way smaller then male counter parts based on size of legs shown they look to be around Viera proportions.

I'm really, REALLY hoping that npc is a special 'childlike' model al la Ryne & Gaia, I want big buffs girls! T-T

That character does not have a tail from what I saw but I am otherwise unopposed to them being at a more palatable size compared to Femroes.

Just saying, in FFX, where I believe they originate (please correct me if I am wrong) the ronso females (ronso being the bases for Hroths) were just as tall as the males, maybe a tiny bit smaller but not by much.
And, as you can see, much larger then the human characters. I would rather they TRY to stick to lore, a little at least, with the sizes.

I didn't expect big and bulky, but it does seem like they'll be even smaller than that. I still hope they're deceptively tall, at least, being like cheetah-inspired as a counterpart to the lion-inspired males.

That being said, the stinger is making me expect a slightly bigger Mithra instead. Can't say I'm excited for that.

i did some basic detective work of the latest patches 6.5 MSQ, specifically of a silent pair of legs that is being addressed as they and their travel companion, who for the sake of spoilers will be unnamed here, disembark from a ship in sharlayn in a short cutscene at the very end of the MSQ. the travelers arrived from the new world, which supposedly has a native population of hrothgar

I took a snapshot of the ankle that was shown for a short time, getting RGB values of 125,112,99 from the ankle on its lighted side. i looked up in the character creation for male hrothgars available skin tones, and the closest match i got was from a skin tone, currently available in-game, had the RBG values of 133,105,95. within 10 points/degrees/whatever, im not a color expert.

what does this tell? who the hell knows, but its fun to speculate, yeh?

Well they are shown to be shorter than Fem Roe in the Bozjan mural. I would think they are somewhere around Fem Highlander or Elezen height.

if those legs at the end of msq was a female hrothg, it will be a dissapointment, but not a unexpected one

Something tells me that they are quite beefy, but the angle in the cutscene does not do them any justice, imo.
Mind you, the current model implemented in the game is probably just their legs, so the awkward camera angle was warranted.

I wouldn't be surprised if the tail wasn't implemented either because they were scrapping for time or something. Because, let's be honest, they could've done a lot better. They did better tenfold with Fran during SB, or Yugiri in ARR, imo. Though, they had to rig Yugiri's hair and horns on a miqote face at the time. If you look at the old cutscenes where her face is veiled, if you pause for a moment, you'll see her horns moving like miqo's ears. It's quite surprising when you catch that up, but it's still better than the 2-miles-away-kinda-teaser-I-guess.

If they are consistent with how they handle their stuff, my guess is that the tail is completely missing on the model, and there's a missing texture or a hole there instead or something.

Plot twist those legs belong to a lala on stilt.

I haven't played the patch yet and I'm already scared to look lol

If I may, as a fellow artist:
What you might be iffy about is the snout. You used a solid line in the part of the snout that's closest to "us"/"the camera"/"the viewer"
If you still have the original file around, try removing that lineart and using shadows to show the change of planes. Same with the ears.
You clearly know how to show volume with shadows/lights because the neck and chest look very good! So just apply that to the ears and snout and see if that helps! :3

Here is a screen grab of both shots of the mystery legs. Using a link instead of an embed in case anyone wants to be surprised when they see it themselves.

My thoughts:

- Is it a Hrothgal?

If you look at the right foot on the right image you can see what appears to be fur right under the sandal leather above the heel area. Between that and the secrecy around their appearance, it seems likely this is indeed a female Hrothgar. I'm sure they didn't show the tail to leave room for speculation, or perhaps that wasn't even the actual full model.

I was fairly confident the mystery female voice in the Dawntrail trailer was a Hrothgal but I had assumed the devs wouldn't go through the effort of making a low rez model for only one patch. I guess that teaches me to underestimate the devs. ;)

I think this remains to be seen for a few reasons.

1. The angle and distance from the camera isn't doing the model any favors.

2. If you look at the left leg there is visible muscle definition which is consistent with the more buff race options like Roe/Highlander/Hroth.

3. If male Hrothgar are a hunched over male Roegadyn it would make sense that female Hrothgar are based on Femroes, and I think everyone is picturing femroes much more stocky than they actually are. The Hrothgal leg in those screenshots is completely consistent with femroe leg proportions.

That being said they could also lean more toward female Highlanders in overall size which again have those same proportions and still look plenty jacked. I will be as disappointed as anyone if they turn out to be dainty but given what we have to go on so far I think it's reasonable to give them the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully I don't live to regret that statement! lol


In any case, this is all my best guess from the information available and we'll know for sure soon enough. Unfortunately with this new information I think it is unlikely the reveal will be at EU fanfest. JP fanfest is January 7-8 and 6.5 Part 2 is shortly after that in mid-January. It would be odd to tease the reveal now only to show it off anyway in a couple weeks and then wait three months for it to appear in game. Seems like it would make more sense to reveal them at the JP fanfest where it's only a week or two later until she pops up in the game.

Of course I would love to be wrong and see them sooner but either way, they are 100% coming in 7.0 and we'll see the full reveal in January at the latest. Looking forward to it!

Just been over on the reddit forums and there are more pics and also you can see the fur. On discord datamine they say the model is a female hrothgar.

I don't know how they did it but someone posted better/more shots of the legs (which hilariously is just a pair of legs with no torso) from different angles and it definitely looks like they used the Femroe model as a base *on closer look the wide stance actually looks more like Highlander than Femroe, they look to be quite tall and there's visible fur texture on the thighs, abs, and what looks like a tail hole in the model.

They probably knew people would do this so they removed the rest of the body to hide it :D I'm also very curious how the rest of the model looks, especially their faces.

If I was in charge of doing it, I'd be 50/50 on removing the upper part of the model entirely and leaving it blank, or replacing it with something really ridiculous and fake.

(It's not a Hrothgar, it's three moogles in a trenchcoat!)

But the idea of someone being real cute and datamining the model to see who/what is standing there and it just being a pair of legs is honestly pretty funny already.

It is a little strange though, they went through the relative effort of "closing up" the leg model at the waist rather than leaving it hollow because you're not supposed to see it from that angle anyway. The implication is obviously that it's a female Hrothgar but it makes me wonder if it's not also a Yugiri-before-unmasking situation and they don't want to show anything of the final model yet so they took some poor Highlanders legs and wrapped a fur texture on it for now.

Quite possible if they were going to get a fully unique model, although since it's fairly predictable that they'll be based on one existing model or another, it seems more likely that they would just use that model without any of the new-race-specific adjustments to it yet.

Unless they want to go super obfuscating and stick it on a Highlander when they're planning to use a Roegadyn, or something like that.

Oh yeah there's no doubt they're going to have the same base body but resized and re-textured like everyone else, I was just thinking that Au Ra don't have a fully unique model either and it just wasn't finished at the time Yugiri was supposed to show up in the story so she got to be a masked Miqo for a while. We don't know how long ago they finished this scene so it could have been quite early on and this is what they had to work with.

But you're right it could pretty much go either way.

So it looks like I was exactly right. It wasn't the full model at all, and it looks plenty "thicc." It actually seems pretty similar to the Maho art we've all been gushing about for years, so perhaps they've been reading this thread after all?

Of course the most important part is how the head and face turn out but I'm feeling pretty good about what we're seeing so far. :)

In terms of all female characters ultimately being tweaked Midlanders, maybe, but Au Ra are as unique as any of the ARR races in a way that the later races are not. They have their own hempen gear design and unique versions of certain race-specific emotes, whereas - for example - female Viera has a direct copy of the female Midlander hempen gear and also shares the female Midlander version of those generally race-specific emotes.

(The one I particularly have in mind is a "lecturing" sort of emote, I think it may be /elucidate but that's too expensive for a PVP-allergic player like me to go spending precious wolf marks on when I need those for glamour.)

Thank you so much for this! From what I can see the fur is absolutley visible, she seems to be fairly tall AND have a tail, which is a guarantee for me to change! Now I hope the faces are also good, praying for at least 1 option to be really good!
It does give me more of Maho's RDM and RPR vibes than the SCH or the DRK. And nowhere close to their MNK.

It also remings me of the picture I have been praying that will elude at the final design. The one made by the FFXIV artist. She looked pretty "thicc" and quite imposing in that drawing (amazing work by the artist). I hope they will also have faces similar to that drawing.

One thing that I wanted to add. I don't think the outfit of the model is the racial outfit for female Hrothgar, more of a unique outfit for the NPC herself.

Absolutely, but I was strictly referring to the actual model. Having unique hempen gear and emotes wouldn't have mattered at all at that point since she was covered head to toe anyway.
