At this point I'm wondering if the DRK even had provoke, based on what you've told. That crap is important to get...
Please, everyone considering using DRK in even semi-serious content, please get you gladiators to 22. Please.
Please.
Did we come from the same game @_@

I ended up getting a Steps of Faith (regular version). Went really smooth. I decided to take dragonkillers and sing foe as much as I could. Told people to prepare to get snares ahead of time while I went up the tower for the second dragonkiller, because I'd never seen that successfully go off before. Dragon gets snared and it goes off without a hitch, though I was expecting a message saying it got hit, so I walked back down confused as to whether or not it actually worked.
Dragon dies before it even reaches the third ward. I somehow left with 6 comms. As a Bard.
Wat.
Did expert today as AST. Tank leaves before I even load in. MNK leaves, get DRG. Other DPS was BLM. Was Sohr Khai.
Went through the whole dungeon with no tank. Only wipe was on last boss. It went pretty good! Both DPS thought I did good healing which made me feel good. :3 Walked away with both comms and gave mine the DRG, but both did pretty well!
I signed up as tank in progress for Trials, it was about 16 min in? I load into a party of ~4 people at Final Steps of Faith. The poor SMN says "I've been trying to clear this for three days."
Oh honey. I've got you.
I start calling for healers, dps, and another tank on linkshells and my server's novice network. As I start the call, the healer and one of the other dps drops. The SMN who loaded in with me sticks.
In a matter of moments about half the people I've farmed Nidhogg Extreme with have loaded in. We get a full team in a matter of moments and hand that hogg his butt nicely roasted. The SMN dies a couple times but manages to clear on their feet. It was a nice moment, coming back together to help someone triumph.
So, a paladin from my FC tried to clear Chrysalis for the story and complained about people leaving after the first wipe, so I joined him in progress on my AST. Noticed that we're short a DPS and a second healer, and without asking if everyone knows what to do, I said that I can try to soloheal (at this moment I successfully repressed my last Chrysalis run with the MT in Sword Oath not using any CDs during Triple and my co-healer hardcasting Selene while my panic heal was on CD, I writ about that one in this thread too). Before we started, we got a 4th DPS, and so off we went. A DPS died during the first sphere phase, and the MT (the DRK) didn't pop any CDs during the entire duty (here I remembered that last Chrysalis run *cough*), so Triple kept me really busy... but this time I was prepared and cast Stoneskin on a regular basis and made sure to have Essential Dignity available. During the second sphere phase, too many spheres reached the boss, so everyone but myself and the two tanks died - I managed to raise everyone and get the party to the meteor phase, but one meteor not getting caught up and most of the party not being at full health destroyed us, I wasn't able to prevent a wipe :(
Before we tried the second time, a scholar joined. ...one of those "Selene does all the work" guys, and he didn't even bother to use his shields. Except for this moment when the MT suddenly said "brb, ordered meal" - he eventually lost aggro and as my paladin mate didn't notice, I was the one getting tankbustered to death :( More struggles during the sphere phases and the meteor phase, but this time we cleared. Paladin mate and a dragoon got the clear achievement and the paladin asked in FC chat: "what the hell just happened!?" Whoops, forgot to explain... :o
I had a Duty Finder Party where the White Mage only cast Protect and Cure the entire time.
While in Cleric Stance.
(to the tune of a Hoedown)
Ohhh, running Weeping City, looking for healer gear.
Running as a healer, that fills me up with fear!
Running for the nth time, I swear and clench my fists:
If I roll another 7, I'll slit my goddamn wrists!
Aside from being jerked around by RNGesus on rolls, RNGesus decided to screw everyone over at Forgall by spawning 2 green pools exactly on top of each other. As the healer, I got to watch everyone be zombiefied, and the entire trainwreck of pain and desperation coming.
In another run, my alliance's tank kept D/Cing, which lead to me and the other healer dying, which lead to... unpleasant things. Eventually they came back and claimed that someone was using the microwave, which was what messed with their connection. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry.
Loaded in Antitower for roullete 60 ( yeah, not ARF )
then immediately the tank said: "Oh sorry S rank-" and left
eventually after no replacement tank we all left, i requeed and got ARF, oh well.
Got a good 41-50 Deep Dungeon run this time around. It's me the ninja, and 3 healers . I actually got a good chance to learn how the ninja class works (far from an expert though, I wore the bunny hat 2-3 times in this run and I'm still putting DoTs on low health monsters lol), since I didn't have 3 other DPSers getting in the way, so I got a larger slice of the pie. I can relax because I got 3 healers that have my back. The healers can relax because they got 2 other healers at their back, and whole onus isn't on just one. This really needs to happen more often.
PotD: Floors 21-30.
Got a DRG who did the absolute bare minimum. The second the exit relic started glowing, he was in there like a bullet and wouldn't move until we zoned up.
We booted him just before the zone up at floor 29. No regrets.
I had my first worthy experience fighting Ravana in the Trials. party full of 60's all in 210 gear and up. Everyone here knows by now that when you do some of these trials its basically a glorified tank-and-spank, so we were all blindly DPSing Ravana apparently all watching Netflix or something, when "out of the blue" we all came back down to Earth and noticed the 10 flaming swords sitting around the arena. When we all start floating up in the air one Lala says with perfect timing "Guys.....I think we F***ed up..." and then we were hit with a generous 30K AOE andddd wipe...We then beat it with no problems an no deaths overall smooth run. Everyone joked about our wipe after the win and no on was in a bad mood. It really restored my faith in the community.
i queue for exr on healer, 10m wait, don't want to wait that long, so i switch to war (recently got to 60, about 5 days ago), and get in instantly and get sohr khai.
i look at the party and see a white mage, bard, and black mage for my team and think "Sweet! this'll go smooth!" i couldn't have been more wrong. both the bard and the black mage were new to the dungeon, bard didn't use wm or foes, blm didn't use ley lines, for anything. i'm popping all my cds during each pull to stay alive because the dps is so slow, whm is goin ham healing me and dpsing, we're both stance dancing to try and kill things faster, nothing bad happens until hraesvelgr.
we get to hraesvelgr, 4 mins left on protect, i quickly explain mechanics, we start. LB bar fills and i call out to LB, no response. i call out again a few mins later, nothing. he's at 60% left and the bard falls off, 40% the blm falls off, 30% we're down to 1 platform about to be left so healer and i just jump off and we wipe.
take 2! same deal with LB, nothing. 40% bard dies again, 20% blm dies, 14% we have a single platform, i switch permanently into defiance and do a triple fell cleave + mercy stroke with internal release and berserk active and barely manage to kill him.
Timed out on Garuda extreme.
Been trying for 2 weeks just to get a vortex feather.
We either time out or vote abandon because people don't listen to directions. I don't want to give up but it takes too long to queue for this, I only get to try once a day. :/
Once upon a time, I was a little AST in i130 Ironworks gear, healing a Snowcloak.
The run went fine, except for the final boss, in which everyone except me managed to die, mainly because the tank was too busy dying to Lunar Cry to tank.
So it came down to me, constantly sprinting around the room, spamming Aspected Benefic and using Swiftcast to raise the tank whenever it was off CD. And without fail, every time I managed to raise the tank, they died again due to not dodging Lunar Cry.
This happened twice before I just decided to raise the SMN, who then raised the other DPS, instead, and both of them had better luck in dodging, before finally raising the tank.
At the end, I got called the MVP, got all 3 comms, and generally learnt that yes, ASTs can totally tank Fenrir. So today, one of my many mottos is: AST best tank for life.
Another time, I was a MCH in Keeper of the Lake. After the second boss, the DRG has to leave, and the 3 of us sit awkwardly, since the empty DPS slot is, surprisingly, not filled up instantly.
"Think we can at least get to the last boss?" the tank writes.
"Probably." I write.
Tank proceeds to pull both packs of mobs at a time, and I melt them all down on my own, with minimal input from the healer. We got to Middy boy in roughly 6 minutes, and would've melted his face off too with just the 3 of us, but I was dumb and tab target hit Middy instead of the Astraea, so we wiped, then came another DRG, and we finished just fine.
And at the end, I got 2 comms, which was a nice gesture, especially for a DPS.
Be me.
Be stuck on "Levin an impression" MSQ for 5 days.
After 60mins in queue go take a nap.
Wake up 3 hours later.
Within 2 minutes see the queue pop.
If you have a friend to help, it can be two manned as unsynced. You might have luck making a farm party in PF as well, and just go with 3-4 people.. Some still might need ponies.
Yesterday was terrible for roulettes. 10 min or so healer queue on ex, to have the tank drop out of HB while a dps was still loading. Had a painful 3 man trip up to the second boss (one dps was new and they were both kinda meh), when I called in a FC tank to help. 60 roulette, ARF with a dumb WAR (he popped all CDs at the same time, outside of battle, constantly. Also did small pulls and lost aggro to me dpsing). 50, tank disconnected as soon as we loaded into Keeper, kicked him before first boss, new tank came in when we were just about done with that fight. One dps was new, one was shaky on mechanics (and tank didn't give time to explain).
Lately, every time I land in Castrum Meridianum, the tanks are a couple of dumbasses who keep doing massive pulls (everything from entrance to first boss in 1 go), and including mobs that will go away with searchlights.
Usually I queue for MSQ roulette as a healer, and since I have all 3 healer jobs at 60, and am as overgeared as it is possible to get, I can just about handle pulls like these. I have to push the capabilities of my job to its very limits, but I can just about handle it even if the other healer is dead. It gets easier if they can contribute, and usually they can.
That doesn't mean I like these pulls. I hate them and I hate tanks who do them, and I especially hate tanks who pull unnecessary mobs and force me to do extra work in keeping them alive for no reason whatsoever.
So yesterday I queued as MCH for MSQ, because that's how sick I am of having to deal with tanks like these: I'm willing to wait out a queue time of 30+ minutes if it means not having to heal.
Unfortunately, this means that, since I'm not healing, the healers are a couple of ASTs, at lvl. 52-53, who clearly don't have maxed-out gear and stats for the dungeon. And the idiot DRK MT attempts to do a massive pull anyway. And we wipe. And the ASTs get blamed for it. I spoke up for them and we continued as usual, with tiny little pulls and no more wipes, but I want to know why tanks seem to think pulls like these should be the norm even when the healers are underequipped to handle them.
Queued for labyrinth of the ancients around midnight on my tank, hoping to score since it was a weekend. I think I waited around an hour or so, hanging out with mates and doing scrips, then decided to go to bed, forgetting that I was still in queue.
I was woken up the next morning at 9am+ by the sound of DF ding.
A 9 hours queue for LoTA. Even my mates couldn't believe it heh
i queue'd for WC as AST, we had a bomb awesome monk on our team, i kept getting balances, extended balances, and enhanced balances. needless to say, his DPS was through the friggen roof. it was a great run, since i got to spoil someone with great cards for once rather than burning crap ones :D
Early morning roulettes with my static mate.
Get ARF for level 60, like usual. Me on WHM, static mate on SMN, DF WAR, and DF MCH.
We get in there and groan that it's ARF. WAR is watching cutscene, he later types that he's new. Which is fine, whatev. He pulls one mob and tanks it, we shred through it but I notice how much damage he is taking. SMN asks if he's comfortable with doing bigger pulls, he replies that he should be fine doing so... and then proceeds to only pull one mob. I type out, that I can handle it and go grab the mobs that spawn in the wall and pull it back to him.
At this point I'm healing and then slip into cleric to Holy spam a bit... and suddenly I'm tanking like EVERYTHING. A Tetra later and everything is good, I noticed that the WAR didn't have any TP which would be Overpower spam, probably. But he never stance danced so he never got to use Equilibrium for TP gain.
Then I look at his gear... gray level 60 gear you get from Azys La weapon and left side... and then the jewelry.
Oh god the jewelry.
Necklace was level 51, earrings were level 59, bracelet was level 53, both rings were level 50.
I cry myself to sleep and prepare to tank, heal, and DPS.
First boss I explain mechanics, to target turrets... which he doesn't do, whatever. The second set of them, we don't burn one of them quick enough because IDK why, so it explodes and does spicy damage. Which wasn't a problem, I can heal it alright. I decide to DPS some, and then I notice I get hit once.
I was standing in front of the boss, because that's how the tank positioned him for some reason, so I figured I just got cleaved. Continue DPSing.
Suddenly I'm at 300HP. Panic eggs-Benediction and we clear without me being a fatality.
Next pulls go fine. Second boss, I tell tank to just stay on boss. Open up with my usual DPS opener, when I notice he's facing the boss at us. I try to type it out quickly, but suddenly the entire group gets hit with a cleave + poison damage and I have to recover it all quickly (my static mate types out to point him away, and she quips in LS that she figured pointing the boss away was a given).
Mob afterwards on the elevator is a headache, tank almost goes down because he can't dodge for some reason.
Last boss I type out to kill orbs when they spawn, and then to go into a black orb when the long cast is halfway done.
I completely forgot about the fire/ice orbs that spawn first phase that you have to dodge... the tank doesn't. Neither does the MCH, which is actually a bigger headache because he dodges less than the tank. (#ThanksObama)
I'm dealing with suppression stacks while managing my aggro with SoS and almost ripping off like 90% of the time. Kill it, he watches the cut scene in between phases. He asks if it's the mechanics are the same as I've explained, I say yes. Cut to the long cast where you gotta get fettered in the orb... he doesn't go in (MCH is late too, gg) even when I type in chat to get in. Second time, he doesn't even bother trying to go in.
It's not wipe worthy but it's sooooo annoying.
We kill it and I bounce so fast like please. Hellish run, considering the tank had only 4k more HP than me + couldn't hold hate + didn't listen to mechanics + slow pulls.
I've been leveling my healer as of late, really wanted to get one to 60 and decided to go with whm.
Well I'm starting to remember why I main tank jobs, cause having to heal some of these tanks is so bad the past couple of days. For some odd reason the most notorious of the tank jobs that I run into that I've had a bad time with are DRK's hands down.
They refuse to pop gcds, going through entire dungeons without ever popping a single gcd and don't seem to understand the concept of holding hate, completely ignore hate if it goes off to someone else or even myself.
I haven't run into wars much if at all well leveling, mostly PLD's and DRK's but I always dread when I get a DRK as a tank ...
buh ... just wanted to get that out.
1)PoTD AST-Noct (me), WHM, DRK and NIN, floor 41-50.
WHM asks who is going to heal and who is going to DPS, I mean is not like we had similar jobs per se and we were going to rob each other's job, I was in NOCT, so really easy easy run. Well nope WHM got offended that I answered we both could DPS AND heal and called her out when all she was doing was standing there waiting for someone to need some Healing, the whole run she only used cure I, and often DRK was pulling lots of mobs together where a holy/asylum would have been a very good help...no reaction at all. That was just...a kid pouting because didnt get the answer was expecting. So had she participated, the run would have been faster by at least a third.
2)SCH that had no fairy on obey, didnt know what shadowflare was, had no clues what lustarte was or even sacred soil. When she finally found shadowflare she said the damages done by that skill were so insignificant that it was worthless to use.
I am not sure PoTD is the best place to level a class/job, it teaches nothing about your job, how to use it when where and about mechanics as a whole. I still believe entry should be restricted to lvl 50 in each classes/job before entering the place with said class to further level it. At least there is some of the knowledge hopefully acquired on the way rather then stand there like a statue knowing someone else is going to do the job.
I've had discussions with FC mates regarding this. On one hand it IS a good place to level, but, if you're like me and aren't real familiar with how all the other classes work it may not be such a good idea. The reason is that the further into the place you get the more time matters. What I mean is you have to move at a faster pace the deeper into the dungeon you get, which means you don't really have the time to stand there every couple minutes when you get a new skill to figure out what it is and how and when to use it.
This is also the main reason I only run the place with FC mates.
Aery as a healer. Tank couldn't hold aggro. All three other people had CLEARLY never done the dungeon before. French! Never spoke a word of English! Never so much as read a guide! Went AFK when all the dragons attacked Estinien leaving ME to deal with it, desperately popping big heals to try to hold out. The DPS auto attacked, the tank ran around in a circle not knowing what to do. Three times in a row.
I didn't tick F. I don't speak French. Don't tick languages you don't speak for faster queues ESPECIALLY when you've CLEARLY no idea how to play and are far too damn lazy to read a guide before you jump in.
Roulette rewards are really not worth this.
Nidhogg EX bird farm party from PF
1st try goes bad
2nd try not so good
3rd try was quick wipe
4th try .. Ready check 7/8, one dps was not ready. Tank starts count down anyways.
DPs shouts in chat "Wait!! Wait!! Wait!!"
as a fellow DPs I didnt pop anything thinking everyone will wait, but guess what? They pull.
It shocked me I started poping my cds and trying to land my first attack as fast as I can but nidhogg flys.
I've had it with them. I ask them to reset quicky and kill myself with nidhoggs dive.
They get angry at me telling me to stop wasting their time. I tell them 2 dps were not ready for pull yet you still pulled! They blamed me and the other dps to be worthless.. stupid.. bad dps when is its clearly their fault for not waiting on CDs.
They blacklist me for talking back and defending the other dps. Am I the bad guy here for waiting when dps asked to wait for his CDs? I think not.
Was a lame party anyways with tones of mistakes.
As far as I'm aware if you choose roulette it sticks you with people from any language, or that's what I've found anyway; when I do specific 9/10 I get english speakers, when I do roulette I seem to get stuck with non-english speaking people a lot more. I could be wrong ofc.
You can select English only yourself, but the other players can choose all languages in order to make their queue faster regardless of whether they speak English or not. This is very common when queueing for duty roulette especially as queue times can be very long for some roles.
I don't blame the French for not wanting to work with other French players, they have a bad rep' on Odin when it comes to D/F, lmao.
Also, my point was that roulette seems to be random, you don't choose a language so you can get stuck with non-english speakers since they don't want to go to a French server, etc. (I seem to remember getting an option to choose what server anyway, like "dutch, french, english, american." I could be wrong and Odin, etc, is just labelled "EU."
Exactly ergo why someone should at least be 50. In my example she would have known what sacred soil is what shadowflare is what lustrate is... and how to deal with a fairy. Anyway no problem is potd and i take what comes it is just sad ..not using skills is dven more a waste of skills tban using them wrongly
@Darkobra
So yiu are complaining because they are french or because they didnt know the place??? One doesnt necesseraly equate the other. You had a choice why didnt you leave? i mean better than being this aggravated
The language options work the same for roulettes as they do for everything else: If you tic E and F you will only be matched with people who ticced E or F. As I only ever tic E I should only ever meet people who do the same, and with that claim they can speak English. The problem is people (and English speakers are guilty of this too) ticcing languages they don't actually speak, in hopes for better queues.
In addition, you get matched with people not only from your own server, but all the servers of your data center, in your and my cases, the Chaos center.
Don't know why that "Dutch" instead of "German" hurts so much x)
But no, all servers are simply labeled EU, but you might have read which servers are favoured by certain nationalities the most somewhere else and chose based on that? :)
Right?! That really annoys me. If you tic the language, it means you claim you can communicate in it enough to get through the content even if problems arise. But whenever I say that, I get shot down by people who say "It's justified because otherwise the queues would be unbearable" and "It doesn't matter, all content is easy enough anyway to clear it without communicating", "Don't push your standards onto me" and so on. Really makes me mad because actually, content is as hard as the competence of the participating players makes it. So all the time I end up with French players who know neither English nor German yet 'claim' they do speak those languages only to selfishly improve their queue times :/
(And yes I know other players do this too, it's just that I don't notice because I tic the other languages myself so they are supposed to appear xD)
I think he was mainly complaining about people queuing with languages they don't speak, which makes not knowing the place a problem (which it otherwise would not be, since if there was no language barrier, other players, or in this case apparently the only player who knew what was going on, could explain). This is also one thing that makes the usually calm me unnecessarily angry when it happens.
As for why he didn't leave, I don't know. I tend to stick with my DF groups as long as a run seems at least somehow salvageable, but I don't know if even I would have stayed with that group...
The language selecting system for Duty Finder needs to be fixed.
Very often people select languages they do not speak and it causes problems in Extreme Primals and in PvP. And even in normal dungeons when someone is new.
The FFXIV staff said in a video that with this feature people can choose to only be in a party with others who speak the same language.
They also said if you just want to match quickly, you can select any language.
The problem is that even with this feature, the people who want to be matched only with others who speak the same language will still be matched with people who just want to match quickly. In other words, the system favors people who want to be matched quickly.
If person A says "F only" but person B says "E, D, F, J", the system will see that person A and person B "match".
I would hope the system could prioritize matching people based on client language, and less on Duty Finder selections.
let me ask a question, what should an italian speaking player thick for a box?...yeah none. My point being that from the moment you use DF you accept many things and this of language is a consequence as it looks he was the odd one in that group since they were french, or better said french speaking people not necesseraly from France. Still stands if you are not happy with a group just leave, being that aggravated for such a trival thing is totally silly. I stick too with DF and I accept this fact so for me doesnt matter eventually when tired of dying they will either go or start listening.
Blaming cause they're newcomers ? You know that people don't respond/speak aren't only french ? I mean, ok you had a bad run, everyone got bad runs. Don't hate people for it, cause if that's something we should do, then the worst people in DF are the germans: stubborn, won't respond, won't listen and probably insulting you in german in chat when i don't even tick D on my DF !
