Not so much a horror story as a What The...?

Finished CT as a SCH (I prefer to WHM, but queued as SCH randomly). Other SCH in my team was a nearly i90 SCH (I'm i73, though had some crap accessories on so more like i68 or i69).

I was DPSing when I could, healing when it was needed (not like the boss is hard to heal unless people derp), Rezed a couple people from a different group since they nearly wiped (we had deaths from people standing in AoEs or Flare; three total I think) and had to resummon Selene every Flare.

So...this other SCH tells me that I should have healed more and that my mana was too high.

Yep. A SCH telling another they had too much mana. Makes as much sense to me as it does you.

The various tanks anywhere who pull 3+ mobs and then go all "This ONE mob is the mob I care about, the ONLY mob I will ever care about." and do never ever generate any enmity on any other mob until the first one dies, not even if it means everyone will die. Flash? Flash what, what do you mean? Overpower? Is that like some wrestling thing?

DPS who never ever move out of AoEs because "Just heal noob". Especially when they really state that line.

I can't stand when a tank/group clearly unable to speedrun keeps insisting on it <.< I rather like the opposite, a tank that starts with a normal run then switches to speed when seeing the group is way overgeared and everything is going too well.

I only did Odin back when I was 30ish, and yeah was only ressing, so I didn't even feel underleveled except for fate reward :P Was fun though.

So we start and what do you know? WHM get's D/C'd... and we just stand there like, what now? I just say, "Karma is a bitch guys. See ya." and I leave.

I'm noticing a hugely increasing jerkiness at endgame, so much that I stopped pugging anything that's not WP because I don't wanna make my blood bitter for a game. If I did I would play LoL, but it seems the level of friendliness sometimes equals that lately :/

About this, yesterday I tried DFing Titan HM. I still need it, but everytime I give up on trying, because with my latency is kind of a nightmare and trying with strangers is stressful. I've been whm50 since september and beat Garuda 1-2 months ago, just to make you understand my reluctance. But since everybody keeps saying that battle needs a lot of training in DF, and that's the mind people enter there with (after all, all premades require experienced people only).
Anyway I try, everybody takes a load of damage (as expected in DF) and between having to heal more then I can move, my lag and my inexperience/inability I die at some point. I get ressed but in the meantime we wipe. At that point some bard proceeds to say i wasn't moving out of aoes at all. I answer that I have lag (no point in pointing out that if I really wasn't moving I would have died at the start of the fight) and he answers that if I lag I should do Titan HM. There, my rage starts to build. The rest of the fight, he throws an insult everytime I get hitted by something, and I become so nervous that I start screwing up for real cause I can't concentrate. So as soon as I died (was almost killing myself on purpose at that point) I dropped from duty with the mind of staying the hell away from any sort of the pug for the future. And yeah I'll probably never get my relic, but if to do it I have to stand all sort of insults while already being pissed by the impossibility to dodge stuff unless I'm speedy gonzales well...:/

Pugging seems to be ridiculous for you guys.

Luckily (or perhaps not, depending on your viewpoint), I play on Tiamat, chock full of japanese. Japanese don't bitch around about gear level or newness (is that a word?) to a dungeon, they just want to get things done.

Talking about WP, at one point I was using DF and got a tank who seems to know what he's doing but undergeared,and therefore can't really take (and generate) that much heat. The Summoner in the party insisted on using Bane to AoE the whole damn place despite me saying that the tank is not ready for speedrun (and it's pretty evident too). Luckily, none of us ends up dead, but healing an undergeared tank against mobs is really something that keeps people awake

yeah ive run across many bad tanks in * man parties. I see them really messsing up bad. thats why I always commend the healer at the end of a run. You all keep us alive and sounds like you do good work. Keep it up!!

Or running WP back when I wasn't geared enough and screamed "I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH GEAR". Tank ignores my pleas pulls everything. I pop all cooldowns and spam Cure 2 and even use Benediction in a desperate attempt to keep him alive on the first pull and we die anyway.

Not really. Tanks have a hard time because unlike healers, tanks need the latest and greatest gears all the time. Tanks also have to lead the party and manage mob aggro every 4 seconds (gcd). So far, my paladin can keep things under control, but with each harder dungeon, things get even harder.

Which is why I usually commend tanks that do things right (marking, enmity control, proper strategy, etc).

And that leaves the DPS in the dust :P

While it is true that healing is a bit harder thanks to the fact that you need to control 8 lives instead of 2 (which translates to the entire party instead of just you and the enemy), being a tank requires that you know the instance at hand and can lead the party while performing necessary maneuvers in the process. For example, in Garuda HM as a tank you need to make sure Garuda doesn't slipstream inside during the Calm phase. Generally, healing is all about spamming cure magics and not much else. What I'm saying is, healing is harder, but doesn't really tax your brain

Haukke N is a good one where you see DPS/Heals pulling things and causing wipes a LOT. I've also seen a lot more wipes caused by heals who don't know a dungeon than tanks who don't.

Also, for Garuda HM...people should NOT be standing near Garuda during a sisters phase at all...its their fault if they get stunned at those times. You see where she spawns and where she's going, and there's plenty of room to avoid her attacks. The only thing tanks really need to know with that fight is where to pull her during movement phases.

Ok... new low level story.

I level WHM to 50 first and got a relic and now I'm leveling black mage because.. you know... mage...

So on my BLM I put PHYSICK in the same spot I used to have Cure I on my keyboard, and I join a duty finder. And old habits die hard... if someone gets to half health I instinctively heal them. I can't help it. I guess I could take the power off my keyboard but I've been hitting that key and healing for so long....

So anyways, at the end of the SUCCESFUL duty (did I mention SUCCESSFUL with no wipes and everything bad died in good time) the WHM mage curses me out and yells at me in ALL CAPS saying that I need to stop healing and that healing is his job.

So I guess I should've just let people die? I mean if everygthing is healed I have no problems with healers doing some DPS, so if people are about to die shouldn't the DPS do some heals? (In four person instances, I know Primal fights are different) I sometimes hate the duty finder....

Ouch thats a bit harsh of the whm =/ did you say anything back? i can relate though when i was my Arcanist i always ended up healing party members too, the healer always leaves them to super low hp before they heal them >..< i can understand that they were just trying to save mp though and trying not to waste their heals. but still that was a bit of an over reaction from your whm =/

Fun healing story here. Or horrifying, rather, and I wasn't even a healer role.

I hit 44 with SMN and queued up for Darkhold. The PLD was not doing a good job tanking and before we even hit the first boss the WHM left. The PLD keeps going and I, having already sat through the queue twice because the first party all left at the first pull, stuck with it. I end up tanking a group of four mobs just spamming Physick on myself (Ifrit was out and didn't have time to switch to Titan even with Swiftcast). Then we go into the first boss and I'm pulling triple duty - DPS the boss and adds, keep the party alive, and tank the 2nd add that Titan can't hold. The fight lasts 10 minutes with the PLD and DPS only fighting the boss, but we pull through.

Shortly after a SCH joined, but because the PLD refused to use Flash, I'm still using Titan and doing heals/DPS. We did manage to win with less than 10 minutes on the clock, purely because the SCH and I healed the PLD through every single attack because he wouldn't dodge.

CT can be such a joy sometimes... I already had really cool CT pug runs and then again... there are runs like this:

At the first room of CT one of our tanks just rushed in and aggroed the whole room -.- We healers couldn't react fast enough to prevent him from dying. So I ressed him up. In the meantime our other tank had taken the aggro but he kept the lizard mob positioned in a way so that everyone got hit by its aoe...then he kept standing in the purple stuff...it was complete chaos and eventually everyone wiped. After that the first tank kept insulting us healers in alliance chat, saying how useless we were etc...x.x

Hmmm. I suppose you're right. Tanking indeed becomes easier once you know what to do, but healing's weight is always the same, and with the latest contents damage is guaranteed, so healing is always important. And hard.

It seems to me most of the CT runs are ugly, especially if you DF even your own group. That's what happens when you put 24 strangers together and ask them to cooperate :/ Never seen such a high level of stupid and jerky at the same time.

Yesterday I ended up in a ridicolous one. Had worse as far as wipes go but this was mostly...ridicolous. Someone always went to attack bosses right away, without asking if groups were ready or waiting for people to be buffed (since everybody was dying all the time in stupid ways, even protect had to be casted at every battle) or hardly for everybody to reach the room and not be locked out. Adds not dealt with at all most of the time, or dragged on the healers, aggro all over the table and people spread all over the rooms instead of staying in groups, bosses turned towards people...and what made it so bad was that the ones causing the wipes were complaining the run was going too slow, and when someone complained about what was being done wrong was laughed at. It was like being in maternal school. CT went now from fun to wth <.<

Omg... I had the worst CT group yesterday, worse part is it was my first time in CT. So we got Alliance A,B,C; I'm in A party with a friend from my FC, so he's tanking, while I'm a Bard. So Right after we get in, you can see what's going on. So our group isn't told anything, so we just follow everyone. B, seems to be organized in some way, but C... ooh dear. So we get to the first part and instead of waiting for the people left behind in the beginning, C then goes right ahead and start attacking, more than half the raid is stuck on the other side of the wall, including my friend. So I try my best to stick it out, but I get killed because no one said anything, just attacked. C keeps getting killed, and B seemed to know what to do So I was Rezzed and kept helping. Soon the part was over and the wall comes down and we continue our way, then we go to the bone dragon... Once again... aggro from C, B goes in and tries to be organized, we are just trying to pull though. Soon loads of people start wiping and lots of healers died because the C moves aggros and twice I got killed by AOEs. I finally give up and just go and rez myself to the other side of the wall and join the others. You can start seeing lots of party members start leaving and insults start going around from other groups and C is just gone, no more party members. So we just raged and quit right then and there.

So next time we are def going with our FC, at least that would make thigns a bit easier.

I wasn't there, but the whm might have a point. Early on, I was running with a summoner friend who thought he'd "help me out" with the healing. The problem was that he's heal just a split second faster than me (physik vs aldo), so I was basically wasting my spells and he was wasting his dps. Yeah, the target still got the shield but it was a bit of waste.

While not entirely a 'horror story' I'm still quite confused about what happened during a wanderer's palace run I did. (This was on duty finder btw).
Just as the instance started, I had a quick look at everyone's gear and weapons. The dps (Dragoon and a black mage) had standard gear, decent enough to do a normal wp run. Whilst the tank had full darklight with several pieces of ilvl90 gear. Comparing my gear with the tank's I'm thinking we'll be able to do wp no problem. I mean, after reading some of these posts it's obviously the tank's fault right?
The instance started, buffs etc, and we walked forward. The tank however, was just standing there behind us doing nothing, until he said something like (these aren't direct quotes).
Tank: Wow, sh**ty dps again.
I mean, it was obvious the dps had lower gear than him, but you could tell the dps put at least some effort into their gear. I could see some wp gear and a ilvl55 grand company weapon. I decided to be reasonable.
Me: It's duty finder, what did you expect?
Then the tank went on arsing around with the dps. Complaining here and there, so I snapped and said:
Me: Just shut up and do your job.
Apparently that worked, and the tank didn't say anything until the pull was dead. Then he paused and said:
Tank: I don't wanna play with you.
Well tough, I don't think elitists should deserve any sympathy, especially when the run was going just fine. Considering he was being mean to the dps, I replied back with the same.
Me: Fine, go cry like a little b**ch then.
The dps however, said nothing during the entire time! I don't really care what they say, say something back to defend yourselves.
So the kick option appeared and all 3 of them voted to kick me. I was shocked, really. No idea why the dps would put up with a tank like him.

This is..so shocking o.o

I'm just a few myth stones away from my next scholar piece, so I sign up for low level dr. Copperbell Mines with a glad, pug, and arcan. I figure this will be easy. First pull, the pug rushes in and the glad doesn't even try to tank. The arcan tries explain to them how to pull and things, but they continue to ignore him and he leaves. I consider leaving too, but its easy to heal them, I can do a fair amount of damage to things here, and I really just want those last myth stones.

A bard joins us and we continue on in the same manner. First boss is no problem because its just kill everything. We get to second boss, bard and I try to explain fight. I think they were listening because they didn't kill the bombs, but the tank didn't pick up the slime after it aggro'd on me when I healed him. So, I held the slime and tanked the fight while the bard did the bombs.

When we get to final boss, I suggest burning him down because I don't think tweedle dumb and dumber can handle adds. The bard and I keep trading hate on him and he goes down quick enough. And after the strangest dungeon run ever, I get my scholar gloves.

Aurum Vale with a SCH befor patch 2.1...enough said because remebering will cause me another therapy session... :-{

Any dungeons that has lag (certain dungeons seem to have lag every time I duty-find them)... usually has a couple incidents where a tank goes from 2k to 1k hp in the blink of an eye or from 1.5k to 100 in the same span of time. I also hate lag making aoe attacks hit you even though you're well out of the area of effect... Titan, and the Stone Vigil Boss make something straight forward very painful with lag magic. Even when zoomed out.

Can the horror in my story be me?

I just got back into the game after a few months, couldn't afford due to financial issues. I healed a few low lvl roulette to get back into the swing of things then decided to "test" myself and que for low lvl Titan.

I swear no matter how early I moved I could not avoid getting thrown off the edge T_T The tank informs me that the actual radius is about 50% bigger than the indicator but even being totally like 120 degrees around the boss from the attack by the time it hit I get knocked off. I have never felt like such a failure in dodging aoe before. My tank friend logged on later and took me through Stone Vigil for my first time and the last boss was similar, aoe's hitting me like 10y from the effect.

I tried to tell if it was lag but I admit to being confused by the sending/receiving difference, other mmos have only one number for latency that I have played. If someone can explain if maybe this was my problem? My sending number was very low (50ish) and my receiving number was very high (1k ish).

I've seen my share of derps and horror stories of titan this week as I got my scholar relic. I have learned I can solo heal phase 5 now... when the whm (with relic) is dying to the stupid, and so many dps dying to one shots from weights or land slide or bombs.

What's worse with this is that when a lot of dps do that, they usually start requesting a third healer... I'm sorry I can't heal through you getting insta gibbed... at least when all the baddies die it's a lot easier to heal 4 people than it is 8 :p

Also ran into a dps that switched to his relic healer and used nothing but cure 2.... was out of MP by the heart phase... he was using cure 2 when the tank was only missing 500 health his response when I asked was that people were getting hit by things... that attempt people were topped off and fine 90% of the time... And so many tanks that hugged all the bombs (there are some that you just eat, but come on if you can dodge them, do it)

I think I may have a chart topper here.

So did my Duty Roullette for dungeons and got WP. I was thinking...freakin awesome. 20minutes, quick simple done. Great. I can speed run it like a mofo. Easy week.

Take a look at the character list and we've got one geared Drg, a fresh brd and a fresh...tank? Wait...What? The tank has 3200 hp how is that possible. Insepct him. I kid you not he's wearing lvl 15 accessories. Doesn't even have his AF Chest. Has some random grey weapon. I'm thinking...k i'm pretty well geared I can carry anyone. Experience>Gear. Well.....yeah that didn't work.

This guy didn't know ANYTHING about his class so either he was trolling, not sure why someone would do that, or this guy lived under a rock for his 50 levels.

with group buffs and everything I was nearly 700 hp higher than him as a whm. He didn't know ANYTHING about tanking. I ended up Tanking and Pulling for most of the dungeon. WHM Tank FTW. All in all it didn't go to badly, just terribly slow. As i'm getting closer to the final boss i'm thinking to myself how am I going to manage to keep him alive through grudge.

My friend popped on, told him what was going on..he said boot him i'll join up and we'll down him. So we gave it a couple attempts and sure enough, I couldn't keep him alive through grudge. We ended up booting him. What I didn't notice was that we weren't automatically put back into the duty finder. My budy joins up a group in progress and after a few minutes of waiting gets someone else because I didn't have use queued to find another memeber.

We've got 30 minutes left on timer at this point. He clears all of his WP, Joins our WP and our best geared dps goes afk with no notice.....so now we've got like 4 minutes left on the timer and we're like...GOOGOOGO we don't have time.

The bard handles the Adds and i'm healing/dpsing like freakin crazy. We get to the last phase of the fight...where the big dudes are moving in...we've got maybe 5-7% left and i'm like shit we're out of time. My buddy pops all cooldowns to mitigate dmg including LB (we had no dps lb at the time) and I just dump my entire mana supply into holy...We maybe beat him with seconds to spare before we were all just rocked. Those giant ton's were on us.

Usually when I run WP, if healer has less than 3200ish HP I ask them if they feel comfortable attempting to speed run, was amusing one time with a barely 3 k healer running with FC members BLM and BRD (who both also have tanks) who just thought I was being ballsy, but hey that healer kept up, I dipped lower than I should but they managed it and I think it really gave them a confidence boost in their healing. I don't like to use gear as my basis on speed runs unless I see really poor geared dps. Again though I'll basically do a first pull to the beetles, see how it went and decide from there if I should slow down.

Oh yeah I remember the first time I ran WP speed run I was around 3100-3200. Mostly DL, had Garudas Wand. And i'm castin glike a mad MOFO and just couldn't keep up. Relic+1 helped significantly though.

My worst experience to date as a healer would be in the Sunken Temple. We got to the last boss, with some difficulty but we managed. When the heads spawn, they came straight across the room, past the tank, past the dps, and after me. And proceeded to beat on me for the next couple minutes while I try to keep both myself and the tank alive. We wiped. And we wiped again. And again. Until the tank quit and we ran out of time. And the second run, they inevitably came after me, past everyone again. We wiped over and over because the DPS just didn't understand not to kill them until I placed them on the platforms, or they just ignored them completely while they beat on me. My third time in people finally it right.

Are most tanks really this bad... Reading these stories hurt my head :(

When you think about it for every bad tank that exists there's probably a bad healer and 2 bad DPS. How's your head now? :p

im(SCH) healing in Ultima Bane with 1 roughly ilvl55~60 WHM, i am ilvl80 at the time, when i see undergear healer,im thinking "im gonna heal hard this time", and yes i have to heal hard..not really a problem tough..the problems come when after 2nd UFO explosion, 3 DPS dead...and while healing and my attempt to rez 1 of dps so we can kill ultima fast, 1 of tank is in low health, so i quickly run to tank trying to save him, but im too late, he died..so there is 3 dps dead and 1 tank, so i rez tank 1st..then 1st dps, 2nd dps and the last dps..the last dps i managed to rez just before ultima is casting 3,2,1..and all alive but we still dead coz cannot defeat ultima when time run out.
the prob is,the whm NEVER EVER rez any of dead bodies! she also dead..twice,i asked her.."do u have swiftcast?", she said...what class can i get it from :0
i really dont care if she dont have swiftcast..but please,rez people.u r WHM for the god sake..only both of us at the time have rez power

Dunno if this will help you at all, but from my personal latency-driven experience: the only way I have any hope to dodge aoe (dragonbreath in Brayflox, icebreath in Stone Vigil, Chimera tank-targeted aoes in Cutters' Cry, Landslide on Titan etc.) is to predict. It's not about reacting to it, but predicting it and being on the move when it's just showing up. I can't trust my screen with aoes, I just have to know when they're about to come and ready myself. :s

Last night, I finally decided to do Aurum Vale for GC and AK access. My FC was already in the middle of their scheduled runs, so I decided to just hit up the Doodie Finder. I'm not surprised by a 30min que because I heard this one's a nightmare for some people. It took me 3 runs to complete.

Group#1: Tank decides to pull all the mobs in the 1st room and stands in acid. 3wipes before room is cleared. 1 wipe on 1st boss due to poison stacks and neglecting the fruits. 3 wipes on 2nd boss due to no aoe-dodging and I'm OOM from multiple rezzes. Tank ragequits because "dps wasn't high enough."

Group#2: Smooth run. One death on 2nd boss because BLM tried to get a spell off before dodging that Optic Blast. Get to last boss with 50min left. Last boss is at around 10%HP. 90K Error and lockout.

Group#3: FC group established. Mission accomplished.

I did a Wanderer's Palace run through the duty roulette recently.
A few mobs in I notice the tank has on Sword Oath and Selene and one of our dps tends to be tanking 2 out of the 3 mobs in the group. After the first boss I politely ask the tank if he could put on Shield oath, at least for the groups.. "OK. Sure" he says after which NOTHING happens.
We manage to get through the instance ok, Selene/Eos and dps tanking. On the LAST boss the tank decides to put on Shield Oath.... great plan
