Something else to remember with the connection to the questline is more than likely Hildy either won't be there or might at most make a cameo. But this is a questline where we also really get to know another side to Godbert. And there's also Greg and his connection to the Aetherial Rift/Void type of things. If you don't do these questlines, you will only know Godbert in a more superficial fashion rather than being a good friend of his son, and you won't know Greg at all.

Tying the relic to Hildibrand quests is a bit strange but eh, it’s content. The Hildibrand quests have been around since 1.0 as well so it’s not like it’s something suddenly new. If you’ve been avoiding them all this time, then you now have a reason to do them. If you’re not going to get relic this time around out of some sort of self-imposed rule to not do silly content then oh well I guess.

That sounds more like a you problem.
Hildi has been here since ARR. He wouldn't still be here if he wasn't popular. Skip it if you don't care. Problem solved.

What a great decision. Hildibrand is some of the games best content, and judging by this thread, it's obvious there are many who need to have their hand forced a bit.
