it's funny i see the same people supporting this change as they did the other crafting change. the funny part is one change it needed to be changed because getting all mats needed for gear took too long so that needed to be removed. now it is ok for this system to go in that completely destroys your gear because it makes them feel like they earned something. it seems getting the same gear items multiple times you would be against since you were against getting all the parts for a few attempts on the old system.
i do have one question on the materia system though. is adding the materia going to be a synth like it was to upgrade from one item to another or will it be just a put materials in and the game does it by itself on a random completion?
if it's the first option i won't mind as much due to the fact at least it would be the crafters skill on getting the item completed, but if it's pure luck randomized then i really have issues with it.
The forbidden branch may decrease the odds of failure. Not to mention traits may be implemented to lower the odds of failure. Who knows how they will implement it. It may be with every craft there is a trait that lowers failure by 5% and with all crafts the odds of failure for 5th materia is 25%. WE DON'T HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION.Quote:
The Dark Side...
Much remains unknown about materia and its full potential. There are dark whispers, however, that tell of a forbidden branch of the craft that leads to power beyond imagining…but only at great cost.
The forbidden branch is attaching more than a single materia. This was originally used in reference to slotting more than one materia when it was first announced.

We don't know the failure %s but I would imagine it would be pretty high.Quote:
Finally, rumors tell of a forbidden technique with a high risk of failure to attach another materia to an item that already has a materia attached to it…
soo people ask for gil sink.. SE makes an awsome way to sink gil i would call it a Gil Vortex, the ppl are angry cause the out come it to harsh..
rinse repeat...rinse repeat..
i like this system, if you got a crab bow+3 and you feel the edge and wanna try to get that +5 materia, go for it, if not stay with your +2 materia, no one is forcing you

Players who have met certain requirements can obtain the more advanced ”augmented materia melder,” which allows the attachment of up to five pieces of materia per item. Players can never fail to attach the first piece of materia. However, the success rate progressively decreases with each subsequent piece of materia. A failed attempt to attach materia will result in the loss of all items involved in the process, barring the key item.
@Arcell. I thought the augmented materia welder adds 2-5 materia. I guess the forbidden technique is performed using the augmented materia welder? Is that everyone's assumption?
Personally it will depend on success rates, for players to get a feel of if the risk is worth the reward. (Assuming the success rates of each addition of materia below:)
1. 100%
2. 80%
3. 60%
4. 40%
5 20%
(This is just a random guess)
By default, you'll see players try on lower level gear, so eventually we could see a lot of 5 materia pieced gear for sale on the market, which will give players with the gil something to buy rather then having to put in the time and effort.
I still have to withhold judgement on the system until I get my hands on it. :)
