Also in WoW there are abilities like Warrior Charge and Mages missle attacks that can be dodged by jumping. The more you jump the less you are on the ground susceptible to these attacks. As far as I know there isn't any attacks in XIV that would be affected by jump. Mainly because jump is not implemented yet lol. Doh! >.<
PvP it has the advantage in WoW of confusing your target and making it difficult to target them for a "Mouse Targeter". This doesn't happen in XIV because we mostly tab target and there isn't any PvP..... yet!
In WoW in PvP you can also run towards a mage jump over them. It's the quickest way to geto out of their "Field of View". This would work in XIV because if a target is not in front of you you can't cast a spell or target it! So if we had PvP this would be advantageous in XIV. Could be used against Mobs as well.
Personally I would prefer a jump attack that would just position me behind a mob. It would just look better than doing a normal jump. Because such a jump, depending on the mob size would need to be quite high to get over! So a normal jump you would just pass through the mob. This just looks silly.
So, point of this is. If the game supports advantages to combat for jumping, ppl are going to abuse it and use it. But if it doesn't make a difference, it likely won't be used in battle unless it's incorporated in skills. Which I think is the best way to implement jumping for battle.
Regular adventuring and traversing the terrain, though jumping anytime would be nice. Could make some interesting videos with XIV's head and eye tracking combined with jumping! :D Yayz!
