That is the thing negative experiences tend to stick around. I use my LoL example because even LoL in my opinion has far more positive experiences then negative but sadly people will focus on the negative.

It is kind of like parsing in the grand scheme if we really took into account the three possible outcomes negative, neutral, and positive. From a simple numerical stand point the positive and neutral experiences most likely out number the negative but people will focus on the negative.The sad thing is the negative experiences will for the most part outshine the rest.

Just like when I try to get my friends to play LoL the quote things they see on reddit or twitter toxic community and in the grand scheme it is not as rampant as people like to make it seem but the truth is the perception has already been established.

As a community we are in an interesting spot.

It's an interesting event, for sure, but likely temporary. A spike in Twitch presence or one world's increased activity due to Asmongold isn't going to change the community that much in the long run. If he ends up liking the game enough to continue with it as a secondary game to WoW, then great. If not, that's alright too. Things will settle down eventually and the community will be fine either way.

The community at the core will be fine either way do not think anyone has said otherwise but I do think the perception of the community will be skewed going forward depending on the spin his experience with the game takes and how many others follow suit. Will be interesting to see if other OTK members or other streamers join him depending on his experience.

I don't think so. Asmongold is a bit special in his own way (whether for good or bad) that people cannot use his experience as any kind of tool to predict their own. That's not even taking into account that everyone's experience will be different, but people like him especially.

The perception of the community also wouldn't change all that much as there has always been people who like the community and those who don't, and both sides have been represented in public based on people's differing experiences. Sure his experience might be more known as people report on it, but then again, he also carries his own baggage (whether true or false, whether by his own fault or not).

He's enjoying the game so far. I mean he was literally playing WoW and even ARR is better than that game right now. :p

Of course everyone has different experiences and sure only time will tell but I do feel if other WoW streamers especially members of OTK do try FFXIV the climate within game will go up in temperature just due to the more transparent nature WoW streamers tend to be regarding their opinions.

In the end it will be interesting if he does stick around and others follow to see how SE will handle such a dynamic between larger streamers and the perception especially in the west. Cause to my knowledge FFXIV has never really had a major presence on streaming platforms and if Asmon does keep playing and can maintain his viewership but keeps his persona from WoW while raiding it will be interesting to see how SE handles that dynamic, and how it will impact prospective players.

I cannot wait to see him stream ultimates. As mentioned though I do think the perception of the community will be skewed depending on if other WoW streamers try FFXIV since it will cause to a degree a personality shift with what the traditional FFXIV streamer. Sure we have mire transparent FFXIV streamers but their number pale in comparison and will be interesting to see if he can maintain their viewership.

What also makes it interesting is because take MrHappy he use to act somewhat akin to what many would view a WoW streamer to be but he choose to clean up his act after some drama. A part of me just thinks if Asmon runs his ffxiv raids like he does his classic raids it will put SE in a weird spot cause more or less he does what Arthus and Xeon have done but on a much larger scale.

There is nothing ‘we’ the normal players can do to ease the situation. If we speak up and defend our community, we’ll just come out as white knights. People will disregard anything we say.

Best we can do is ignore the situation and behave in a good way. If we are good as we claim to be, the truth will come out eventually. New player experience, content creators' voices can and hopefully will give a better representation of the FFXIV community.

This is why Asmon is trying the game in the first place. A lot of WoW content creators are praising it and its community. We just need to chill. Things will settle down and go back to normal after the hype goes down.

This is the sad truth, while they are the minority of the FFXIV community it's still a big crowd when all the black sheep across the datacenter move to a single world which happened in Asmons case. The sproud crowd dispersed over time because they couldn't keep up with him but players with mounts follow him all day.
I'm glad he is still able to enjoy the game, he really seems to be having fun while trying to ignore the people crowding him.

The ToS doesn't change just because any specific person decides to start playing FFXIV. So anyone who can follow the ToS can and should feel free to play the game.

If true about Happy, it just shows that people can change. Asmongold himself has said he's not the same as he used to be in the past. Spend more time in FFXIV and maybe Asmongold can change even more unless he isolates himself.

So, once again, you've accepted that people will just see you as a white knight and will disregard any defense you may make on behalf of the community. Keep in mind that defending the community does not mean defending the actual people who are behaving badly.

I'd be happy to ignore the situation if people didn't make a big deal out of it. So since it's a big deal to some people, why not address it in our own small ways? If you do want to ignore it, then there was no point in giving any explanation in the first place.

This forum, in particular, is a place where FFXIV players can discuss with each other. So anti-FFXIV generalizations are the last thing that needed an explanation, especially from an outside perspective, if, in the end, your only suggestion is to ignore it.

Spergs literally ran to the market board just to buy the cheapest glowy sword and jump around on his screen xD...
Seriously if you're gonna follow him, at least do it from a distance and stop tagging his mobs.

So annoying how these people have to ruin literally everything, no wonder social media platforms are the way that they are.
