aaaand so those of us who aren't fine with what we got now should suck it up and sit quietly?
Question: Are you against complaining about housing too? Or is it just people being upset at inequality in clothing that gets you goat?
If you are happy with the current selection of male clothing, enjoy your wardrobe. No one in this thread is holding a gun to Yoshi’s head demanding better clothes. In game you are directed to make suggestions in the General Discussion. This is a suggestion thread.
Housing is different. The demand for them is staggeringly higher than the supply, which makes people start doing all kinds of shady stuff with this to capitalize on that market.
And then there was quite the demand from the community towards the devs to remove the race lock on the Hempen Camise and Pantalettes, just because certain pieces were more sexy and revealing, if you would say it like that, giving the artists a hint that this is more preferred.
Though, I do bite, out of curiosity : Can you show me the most recent clothes that warranted your specification of 'slutty'?
Ah, yes. They did say they are somewhat uncomfortable with designing that.
But I do wonder if they are trying to design a new suit from the ground up, instead of copypasting the look over. Though for the most, its the ears I guess that they want.
I already said I see the issue with the outfits and hope that they'll fix it. Bashing the artists about the decision is not good feedback.
Stop putting words in my mouth.
The recent string of new years Q&As included a player asking what happened to the bunny suit and another complaining that all male pants look the same. As Yoshi P did not burst into tears at either of the two comments, I think its safe to say that devs can handle critiques. When personal "discomfort" interferes with something paying customers want, perhaps a bit of flak is warranted.
What if:
Girls can keep their dresses--
but boys get capes.
Girls keep boob physics--
boys get cape physics (boys don't have extra physics!)
I think that's a good trade!
I would like some new male outfits myself and face hair as the few got kind of suck and been a few characters with facial hair who wouldn't mind having for my miqo'te
It sure is fun to have to wait two years and counting on a stupid male bunny outfit that we have zero proof is even real.
If it was done on Roegadyn and Hyur, why haven't we seen it yet?

Ah yes, the two genders, dresses and capes. Capes aren't even considered a masculine clothing item, why would you make this distinction? All it's doing is asking for them to do it only to unlock capes because of the overwhelming demands to give ladies capes too.
It IS different, you're not wrong - You can't do anything about whether or not you can have a house. You can, however, Fantasia into a lady, as many people in this thread alone have testified to doing because of the glamour situation. Which is not a valid workaround as far as I'm concerned because this is still a situation we shouldn't be in.
At this point I'd really just like absolutely all clothing options in the game to just be unisex.
Though, I will say as an opinion that male miqo'te probably could do with better facial hair options. Most of what exists is kinda... well, wispy-ish or like "I missed this spot while shaving" to me.
Or heck, let someone play Gandalf with the big beard.
The issue with specifically making unisex gear and hairstyle designs is that it risks leading to most gear being designed to be either feminine or androgynous. The people who enjoy dressing up their male characters in such a manner do not mind, naturally, though those of us who want to dress our characters based around conventional male beauty standards or just 'Rule of Cool' end up being screwed over. More variety in general would be neat and as part of that variety I think it's best that gender locks remain in place for some gear so there's stuff that can specifically be designed with the male models in mind.
Some more armor themes i would like to see.
Alucard Lords of Shadow
Mongolian Armor
Kingdom Under Fire character concept
Aion Armor concepts:
Unfortunately while it doesn't need to mean it, the XIV gear design team refuses to build around male bodies as the male bunny outfit is the best example about how androgynous/feminine clothing will be prevalent.
Another good example is the chest gap on the Hellfire Striking/Fending set, clearly that was designed for a more feminine chest, but it worked well for male Roegadyn and Highlanders.
The design devs think it's icky to accentuate and build around male features/bodies but approve risqué gear for females. What's hilarious is that it's sexism, females are 'normal' to have the opportunity to look like harlots, but males? Nope, no such thing as a male getting dressed in risqué gear. I doubt it's JP culture either considering JP servers asked about it in the recent visit Yoshi did.
Individuals within society asking for a thing does not mean it adheres to society's norms. It's a culture that's very old fashioned despite it all, very sexist, and highly homophobic and transphobic. I can easily see why a male developer hailing from that society would feel uncomfortable dressing up male charas in outfits considered 'sexy', as unprofessional as it is.
As far as I know, Japan has a "don't ask, don't tell" approach to gay/trans rights- do your thing, but keep it out of sight. And don't expect special treatment or acceptance by the majority (basically, stay closeted unless you know for a fact you can be yourself in present company). It's not any better than the aggressive gay bashing we're used to, but considering that there's a huge emphasis on cuteness over there compared to Western cultures (yes guys can be included in that too, especially for media marketed to women), it's a bit strange that we're stuck with what we've got. The Japanese are well aware that men can wear more than pants and long shirts/armour. We can only speculate as to the "why" since SE's not going to share their internal design guidelines with us but there's no harm in people adding their voice in asking for change. Maybe SE will reconsider some of their principles if we raise a big enough stink about it. And kindly tell their devs to get over it for an outfit or two. :P
The Aion gear is all I'd love to see for male armor in this game. It's masculine, it's cool, it's stylish. I'm hoping one day male gear will look like this, rather than what we're getting right now.
Then maybe the culture is the problem... perhaps they can look into replacing the individuals who refuse to change for their consumers, rather than saying "deal with it" to the person paying them for a service. But I would assume in this day and age, people would be a little bit open to the idea.
This, basically.
Wasn't there some Final Fantasy related title recently with a scantily clad male protagonist that ended up with his design being changed? I forget the name since I believe it was some sort of mobile game and I do not play them myself.
I remember the original design, though - it wasn't feminine. It simply showed off the guy's physique. Which isn't all that unusual for 'fighter' types to do. Historically, many societies based around combat have done just that.
It's Mobius Final Fantasy. Apparently it was "too sexy" according to player feedback.
But it became an alternate costume plus there's some other skin-tight and/or revealing outfits in the game.
Why would anyone be uncomfortable with a male character being 'too sexy' unless they aren't comfortable with themselves? If they aren't comfortable with themselves, then maybe they should work on their personal issues instead of ruining things for everybody else.
It's good that it was made into an alternate costume, though. Gladio ended up getting a shirtless costume in FFXV and games such as Tekken 7 don't hide the big, beefy muscles of the male characters. :p
On the note of male bunny suit that has yet to exist, I don't see much of a problem with the following shown here, but alas... (and hiding because slight spoiler alert):

Only a week to go until the next Live Letter. Hopefully we get some news in regards to male glamour...
Considering all the time devoted to "fluff" stuff like glamour, housing, etc. I hope they'll at least acknowledge that there are some very vocal people asking for information. From what I can gather the JP forums are also asking most of the same questions we are- why do females get quantity AND quality more often than not, and why can't we have more variety? I mean it'd be kind of refreshing if they were bluntly honest and said it all came down to $$$ but anything at all would be nice, really.
Yes, please. I'm getting really tired of the very uninspired outfits for men, and almost any time there is something new, it's geared entirely towards female characters.
