Rival Wings might be successful new content. Eureka is going to be a new kind of upgradable weapon experience instead of the relic/anima model of being directed around old content, so there's heightened effort being put into that area with a possibility of customisable armor too.
I don't really know what to say to people who are tired of all kinds of content. If anything that could be categorised as a pve trial/raid or pvp is considered not fresh enough, then what should they divert resources into making? It would be risky to do another 'reborn' of the game fundamentally changing everything. It's already successful now.
If there is another game doing a better job of drastically revamping itself while providing a steady content pipeline then maybe people could give examples of how that is done.
On top of that, I massively support the relic weapon being pushed back, it makes far more sense for it to be introduced at the beginning of the gear cycle rather than at the end when everyone already has a better weapon than the one we are being asked to grind for. I got my lost allagan in 2 months, why would I want to grind for a worse weapon a month before the end of the gear cycle?
There is no such thing as “enough” content. I hope the folks complaining do understand that. It will never matter how much they put out, it will never be enough.
This is an mmo issue, not so much a square enix issue.
Cant edit on mobile but I wanted to reply to this. The answer to this question sort of depends on if you’re a savage mode raider and/or if you really care about stats. If you’re not a raider but want to try for the best stats possible, it might be worth your time if they let us customize the secondary stats like with the 240 anima weapon.
Now if you don’t raid and just want whatever weapon you can get? Then yeah, I agree with you.
Also people one of the reasons why they had trouble with 4.1 was stuff like the concert they recently had, among other things, and apparently yoshi-p tried to push the concert back but nope, so the dev team pushed out what they could for the 10th of the 10th or you would of had the patch pushed back a month or two with eureka being added, which would of made people complain more because they had to push back the patch.
TLDR: To small a team, not enough time.
Even if you aren't a savage raider, at this point you still have far better options. You can get the tomestone for the lost allagans weapon from o2s (which even non raiders are clearing), and in 4.1 you will likely be able to get this from hunt logs too. From there I can see the upgrade item being added in 3.15 or 3.16, at which point the relic grind is pointless.
Also, customising stats won't likely be until much later in the expansion cycle, if at all.
Not sure what you people were expecting.. It looks to be about the same as the other x.1 patches..
All I'm seeing is a lot of people that are feeling that entitlement bug again lol let's be real for a min SE didn't need to give us patches every 2 to 3 months but they do to progress the story and to give us new content and there is a lot of content in this patch is there as much as past patches no but that's ok I meet we are starting a new patch cycle type with the 1 2 1 2 dungeon line up give it some time this expansion is still new and quality content takes time to produce
my friends and i had the same thought about the 4.1, i means we don't take part in raid (we are only a small group of friend), we don't do pvp.... well this patch bring nothing for us... one new dungeon, the raid at 24 (that i await since i'm a big fan of ivalice) but outside this, i'm not thrilled to try shinryu extrem, nor the binding coil mega extrem of doom...
what is a boomer it's this patch look like... a patch for a small portion of the community. the raid at 24 will be done until get one part in the week and it's over, no reason to redo it no reason to explore since well let's face it... it will be a freaking corridor.
i regret almost how the dungeon in the V1 was... you had multiple way to complet it and depending of the thing you had done in the dungeon you had different reward. like kill a certain boss, or finish in a certain time. all of this was making the dungeon less repetitive. don't get me wrong the dungeon was still repetitive after a while, but less fast than what we have soo far.
i wish they did make dungeon more like the adventure in wildstar, where you had a lot of different option that will decide how the adventure will evolve... more important, can be challenging.
i feel they need to focus on a content challenging AND rewarding that is tailored for group of 4 player. something that will be a challenge at the level of the extreme if not savage mode... but talored to small group. some people will tell me that dungeon is not hard and raid is the real end game.... it wasn't always like this... people have decided this, sadly we have seen in the past decade that the raid is less and less and less loved by the masse... to the point that even gather 8 player can become the true challenge. in past raid was for 40 player, then 25, then 10 and now 8 player. i don't say to drop the raid, i said to create challenge content that are for 4 player, for stir up player, making them want to try challenger at 8 by first completing challenge at 4.
it will have as goal too, to train people, because at 4... the error will be seen directly, if the dps is too low, you can't blame the other 3... if the healing is too low, you can't blame the other healer.... if the tanking is shady, you can't blame the other tank to be too slow to retake aggro... you will facing your own capacity and be forced to become good for beat this sort of challenge.
for raid group it will be nothing different than a second endgame for them, more content, but it will offer too a content that will slowly replenish the player that really want to advance... because if you want to have a raid of 8, it's easier to find a second group of 4 to make up a raid at 8. it will solve a lot of trouble....
i will say it again, because i have said it before... the new binding coil is an error... create a content specifically for less of 3-2% of the community is simply idiot. i'm blunt and insulting, for this i'm sorry, but i feel it's an error to focus time on a content that will not help the community to grow.
the game need a challengind AND rewarding content for group of 4. it must be the main focus from now, it's really really important now... we can't delay this anymore. why the deep dungeon did work soo well, it's because people want a content at 4 player... it was asked for ages and we are still waiting for it. it must be something that have the same level of priority than make raid content... because right now the balance in the progression of the game is extremely bad.
this patch is by far the best and the worst we had soo far... the best because we do get something related to ivalice.... and the worst , because in terms of content this three month gonna be extremely long... reallly really really long. the content is not enough... dungeon/raid are not enough anymore, you need to create a content challenging and rewarding for group of 4 player.
ah, I see so it's the game's fault you don't do anything the game actually offers.
If you and your entitelment squad don't raid, don't pvp, don't get exited for ex trials think 24 man are done 1 time and done. I fail to see what exactly is tingling your special snowflake for the past 4 years. You are getting dungeon and you ar egetting a 24 man raid since I believe that's all you do what exactly is missing for you in this patch? 1 less dungeon? relic?
all these special little star crying because patch is "empty" forget that 3.1 came out 6 month after realease si give it or take around 4.2
they also seem to forget that 3.1 came with if not as much less content than what we are getting in 4.1
they also seem to ignore that we are getting 4.1 half the tiem it took 3.1 to come
they also seem to forget that relics didn't came until 3.15 and it was only reused methods they already had been using.
they also seem to not think about the fact that they are building an entire new area dedicated specifically for relic, dedicated and more though out than any previous relic we have ever gotten so far.
they even have the balls to call the patch "empty" despite getting the same content we have gotten previous patches with the only expectation of 1 less waste of resources aka dungeons and relic got pushed back to 4.2 becuase they ae actually doing something substantial with it.
man I'd hate to have such an ungrateful fan-base thank god this is just the forums. Funny thing is they they just changed theit trailer format to a more consise and clean way (even tho I prefer the other one better) and we haven't even seen the freaking patch notes.
But if they didnt give us patches every 2-3 months, then players would just stop playing, which means SE does not get money. This is business, if SE does not deliver content, people wont subscribe, if we dont subscribe, SE does not get money. Please do not think SE is this benevolent creature that creates this patches, so you can have stuff to do. SE is a company and the patches are part of customer retention.
PS: They are customers (they are entitled) who paid for the expansion, in the hopes that SE delivers content, if they think that SE is not doing this, they have a right to complain on the forums.
because your vision don't match mine don't means you can be rude.
i don't do raid because my group of friend is not big enough, i don't do pvp because like tons of player that did join ff14 at the V1 we are mostly pve player... dungeon are unappealing, the craft have become a mess for age and ask more time spend into it than the reward expect, that don't means i don't level them... (well not in stormblood yet) i did level up a few jobs to 70 already, the tribes are all done and at max level soo far... our small guild have a house, airship... my squad is maxed for age
let's face it the game offer tons of stuff to do, but if you don't hunt, craft or raid you have little to nothing to do in the game when you have reach my point. i can go redo some deep dungeon but....meh... it's not challenging before you reach the last batch of floor. (if you play in full group of 4 player). i can return do my old raid from previous extension and patch.... but well... already done it.
finally is not because in the past they haven't done much that we mustn't tell them what we do expect... because for me the game had a lot of missing opportunity... like the hunt that are not different than fate without UI... worst you compete against the whole server for have a small chance to get it. it will have been far better to add it like in FF12 where you take a mission as group and go hunt your prey, yes is like the leves that havent get any update for age, soo bad that no mercenary leves was added in stormblood only craft and gatherer... they have failed to understand what was bad with leves and how make it more interesting.
diadem was too a big miss for me... i was expecting randomized small area that will have offer a true feeling of exploration, instead we had...a limited time area hunt/fate grinding. people say that they don't want fate grinding anymore and they release a content that is fate grinding gosh...
don't get me wrong, i know that they had a lot of trouble in terms of man power... but i feel they had miss the point on some content and have added it the wrong way... but it can't be helped, it's try and error... and it's part of our jobs as community to say what we feel don't work for us...
i know that we will get a deep dungeon V2 but not before the 4.3 that far too away... that something that was needed to be the main focus of the 4.1 instead of the relic, it was even possible to tie the start of the relic with the deep dungeon v2. giving them time to work on eureka and bringing it for the 4.3 instead.
here we will not get the relic before the 4.2 since the relic is tie to eureka that have been pushed back for the 4.2.... that leave us with little to expect for the next 3 month.
and one of your point is wrong, the content of the patch was tuned down for give them more time and focus for add new content, by reducing the number of dungeon at 1 in odd patch. means we will get less than with the 3.1 or even 2.1... we will get a raid at 24 like the other, we will get 1 dungeon instead of 2 before (for heavensward, in ARR it was even 3 dungeon per patch), the new residential area is nice but well it was already here... they was waiting to finish the relocation system and allows more player to reach it for open it then is not really new content, uznair upgrade... (i'm conflicted about this one since... honestly i don't like this content because it's not different than a jukebox, the battle are not hard and the reward is far too random, i have done a lot of map and i have get only 1 time to max room the most i did get is max 3 room), new hildibrand what is nice and.... that all... ohh no i did forget the squad get a few new feature, the trouble is since most my jobs are 60+ (only 1 is not 60 and whm that is about 54-55) i'm not sure this feature will be very helpfull for me.
all in all, this patch that will have needed a focus on content for give stuff to do is kinda empty, mostly because me like some think content like deep dungeon (or content of challenge at 4) must be added really fast after the release of an extension, since it will be our main activity, not raid...
But the reality is not that content is not coming, but that they don't like what's coming and the truth is that they would've complained regardless
The comparison to most of life of FFXI and patch 2.1, which can be considered the foundation of the game as it enstabloished most of what the game would be, are used to fuel the narrative that this patch will be empty because it lacks eureka and relics(it lacks more but it's not important)heck some said it has less than 3.1, but it's about the same only on 3.5 months instead of 5.
Another point ppl say is that this patch lacks lasting content, but that is a general problem of FFXIV not really of only this patch and tbh Eureka and relics probably won't fix that either
I don't want to say that complaining it's wrong, but we should see past our bias when we give suggestions and feedback
So if they release a patch which would only consist of a dungeon, raid and chocobo racing, would you be fine with that? What she is saying is that both PVP and raids are content that (before exp was introduced) was played by a very minority of the playerbase..yet at the same time content that was for all players was cut for that. So in the end other than finishing those dungeons/raids/1 extreme primaes in one week there will be nothing much to do for those that dont raid or pvp much. Heck even if you like to PVP will it be enough to keep you playing until the new patch is out?
I've been blinded by all the White Knight's polished armor in this thread! 0.0
I will have to agree on both sides in regards to the new raid (coil)
In one way yes raiders do need content but at the same token how many will actually get to see it and have cleared 4S?
If that was the reason we are lacking on other content like more dungeons as example well i agree with people on this side also.
Of course this was not the cause for the delay of Eureka i think but we should of had that by now as well.
SE should have taken a break like they had in HW, we may of had more now rather then later
The 24 man would be more fun if it wasnt the stupid one drop per week thing thats what makes it pointless we already have plenty of locked content
The dev team got chewed out big time for the delay post HW before we got more content, they don't want a repeat of that.
The concert and some hiccups are the reason some stuff got delayed, so they gave us what they could now, and working on the rest (eureka for example)
I'm just looking at it objectively. Holding a company accountable for the claims they made isn't entitled. Everyone keeps bringing up Eureka as the reason. We don't know anything about it. Given FFXIV's track record, it will more than likely involve fates. They moved to a shorter patch cycle to retain customers. We are getting a handful of content that isn't going to last 2-3 months and ALOT of fluff. Fluff is great if they also fix issues. But it looks like they traded fixing pvp for brd songs....I don't even play brd.
It's so you don't do everything in a week and be done, unsub. Gear inflation is also a thing.
Aside from RNG, savage loot is not awful if you are in a static. If you pug, you are at the mercy of everyone rolling for stuff even if they don't need it. I'm i339 but that's almost two months of O4S clears, and priorities are made so people can gear what they need.
this is an MMO, the first M is for Massive, make more friends, you already have "a group", what is it like 3 people? you can't find 5 other people to play with?
but that's not THE reason, that's 1 part of the reason, the other parts are treasure maps and Squadron updates.
To be fair, they were chewed out because after a nearly 20 week span between Heavensward's launch and 3.1, they gave us Diadem and Lord of Verminion, two pieces of content that were colossal flops. Basically, all there was to do four eight months was Gordias, Thordan, Voik Ark and four dungeons.
Well, I can say this, these UI changes are really attractive. Hopefully, it's a stab at trying to resolve more of the human error parts of the game, given how customized it has become.
Below is showing debuffs currently on the player on the upper left, buffs gained from party members on the upper right, and self buffs gained below the other two in the middle. It's no longer stuck to a single bar (but if you want that still, it's not removed).

Below is showing that target's cast bar can now be separated from the target's HP bar (hey, you can free up Focus Target now). You can also resize each of these bars individually. Enemy HP bar is 100%, enemy cast bar is 200% and enemy debuffs are 140%.

Everyone in this thread needs to stop complaining!!!!! There are people in Africa that don't even have computers!!!! Stop being so entitled!!!! You make me sick!!!!
I'm late to the discussion, but oh well.
Snark aside, I find the OP to be right on pretty much all counts. As others have noted there has been a decline since 2.0 in the abundance of content and more importantly the types of content. While people are being hyperbolic in saying there's no new content, I think what them (and definitely what I would argue) are arguing is that there is no new types of content. It's more and more of the same. This was a big debate that spawned back in HW shortly after release, and lead to me and most people I know quitting for almost the entirety of the 3.X series.
People keep bringing up WoW, but I think the more apt comparison would be FFXI. Two of their expansions really highlight my point, ToAU and WoTG. Each added new systems to the game. ToAU was themed around the mercenary life and added in assault and besieged to reflect this. Each were unique forms of content unlike the previous patches/expansions of the game. They still added in BCNM fights and HNMs as people expected, but there was something new to try. And this only continued as they added patches.
WoTG was themed around war and had the campaign system introduced. Where the new zones were controlled by the beastmen or allied forces. Each zone had a fort to attack or defend to gain control of the area. There were daily and weekly things to do more casually too. You could do something akin to guildleves for crafting, gathering, and other miscellaneous things. In general the feel of content was new and based around the idea of the war and the war effort, directly or indirectly.
The point I am driving at is, HW and SB bring nothing truly new to the game, its more of the same. And these patches and the complaints people bring up reflect this. All the while FFXI, a game developed by the exact same company, pumped out new types of content and developed new systems for their expansions/patch series. Even if they didn't always succeed, it at least felt fresh and they tried something truly new. Rather than that we get the same linear and gated dungeons, the same FATEs, the same scripted trial/"raid" fights. Its no wonder people are complaining, you can only repackage the same content with a new coat of paint before most people get the wiser. And that's something that's going to continually be reflected more and more with the retention issues this game has.
