You're not supposed to stay up all night clicking to buy a fake house in a game..

That's true.

But the cost was trivial, and didn't require you to "stay up all night clicking to buy a fake house". And when I last played, if you couldn't afford the rent, or didn't play, you never lost the housing. You just had to pay the rent to access it.

What I'm trying to say with respect to housing is that after playing EQ2, I have zero interest in FF14 housing. EQ2 housing is instanced, so there is no need to "stay up all night clicking to buy a fake house", which is something the FF14 devs could easily do, too, since I think they're smarter than the current EQ2 devs (who didn't even develop housing to begin with).

Since I don't believe the FF14 devs are stupid, not by a long shot, I believe that they deliberately want you to "stay up all night clicking to buy a fake house".

If you're OK with that, cool.

I've known better housing in MMO's, so FF14 housing just doesn't interest me. It provides nothing that is useful to me, compared to other MMOs I've played.

From what I've seen in FF14, non-instanced housing is just a status symbol, and I just don't have an epeen.

And if there was a good reason to "stay up all night clicking to buy a fake house", I'd leave this game instead of doing that.

I'm a former EQ player, and so know what "Evercrack" means, and will never do that again. And so clicking on a fake house all night is not something I would would even consider.

I've sat and watched a stump for days for a class quest in EQ.

I will never do that again.

Edited Note: I do think that the FF14 devs have missed the boat for failing to recognize how easy it would be for them to fulfill some people's dreams.

Eh, that's up to the player than anything else. I didn't get my house because it's a status symbol and I wouldn't love my house any less if every player could easily get one. I got my house because of my love of decorating. I really don't give a toss about status symbols. That's never been my motivation to get anything online or offline. I get certain stuff because I enjoy that stuff, not because I want anyone to envy me or think I'm cool.

Well the devs need to realise that their vision is at odds with the playerbase. And I don't just mean the whole status symbol thing.

SE obviously wanted housing to be a very social thing otherwise they would not have created neighbourhoods. Well it's been clear for many years that most players are just not interested in using the housing districts to socialise beyond their immediate circles. Most players keep to themselves whether that's sticking to their fc house or their personal home. Most do not seek new friends in housing districts, they go to cities for that. By keeping housing in neighbourhoods like this SE are providing the playerbase with a feature they rarely use instead of providing a feature that would actually fulfill their needs as players - instanced housing.

Neighbourhoods are a nice idea, not denying that, but this aspect of housing doesn't align with the habits of most house owners. Any good dev team adjusts their content to suit the needs of their players. About time SE did that with housing. Properly.

Make it so you can only click 3 times per placecard per day, just to make it clear that means if there is 100 plots available, that you get 3 licks per plot per day, spread it ot, it solves the placecard spam, it solves the botting 100% and you can and will find value in playing the game other than spending all the time camping, everyone get a fair chance whether stuck at work/school some given hours or can play all day long as being on social welfare or whatever.

2a. suggest adding a timer per relocation to 48 hours or something.

What makes you think the plot that was left behind is in the Goblet? Not everyone who relocates comes from the Goblet. I know loads of people who relocated from the other districts.

This is not a fix because it doesn't increase the amount of houses in the game. All this would do is swap one frustrating situation for another. The reason why people placard spam is specifically because there is a lack of houses. People sit there for hours spamming because it's their only hope for a house aside from the rare times when we get new wards. If there were plenty of houses to meet the demands for the population there wouldn't even be any need for any sort of placard lockout mechanic.

With your "solution" many players would want placard spam back because they would have far higher chances of getting a house with infinite clicks than they would with a mere three.

And please no one suggest lottery...how many times do we have to say it...nothing is a fix unless it targets the actual root of the problem: the lack of houses.

The only option is more wards and not just in Ishgard (because some of us think it is really ugly).

The original concept was to make it something expensive, exclusive and desirable to FCs that players could actively work together to obtain and build neighbourhoods with other FC's... but 2 things happened.
1:- the community never formed bonds or meaningfull connections between players. everything is superficial and players are selfish..
2:- the wards were baren wastelands absolutely empty and virtually abandoned.. partly down to number 1 above very few FCs survived or made bonds strong enough to allow them to obtain a house.

SE's response to this was to open up the wards to personal housing and fill up all those empty plots and things kinda exploded there because everyone suddenly felt entitled to have one and they've been fighting a losing battle ever since...

There have been hundreds of suggestions to alleviate the problem but players are often so single minded that many of those ideas get shot down by the community without a moments thought.

one such idea was simply giving tenants more security and power in shared plots. allow the tenants of my personal house to reset the demo timer for example. something that simple would open up the possibility of sharing plots for a lot of players. if they had the security of knowing there home was not tied to my subscription. but players shoot the idea down because that means my house would be less likely to be lost to the auto demo and made available for someone else to buy. but they dont see that same idea could mean a group of friends sharing 1 plot instead of having 4 - 5 indiviual plots. thus making 4 plots available for other players. 4 doesn't like much but if even 100 people on a server of i dunno 5,000 population? decided to share thats could open up an entire ward.

if you combined that with the vast amount of other simple ideas players have made. such as giving appartments access to an allotment / workshop so they can do gardening and projects. this would also free up a lot of plots there's quite a few people out there whose houses are totally empty and exist only because they want to do gardening or airship/aquatic voyages. if those things were accessible through apartments they wouldnt need that empty house..

another suggestion is a legitmate sale/ transfer system. if a player decides they no longer need there house then let them sell it.. again everytime these threads come up people often say they only keep there house because they cant sell it.
and to relinquish it is a lot of work and hassle if its fully furnished. a fully furnished huse can be 600? items maybe even more... player inventories are nowhere near big enough to take all that furniture out.. so they just keep it.
