There's a trade-off between jobs' diversity and balance that needs to be considered. But let's assume that for the sake of diversity they did something like the suggested change to Grit. This would mean that, for any encounter going forward, the dev team will have to consider how the boss' damage would interact with this new form of Grit. In other words, this would place an additional constraint to the team responsible for fight mechanics, possibly further homogenizing fight mechanics. You couldn't have a boss like Neo Exdeath that doesn't autoattack because DRK would be completely useless in such a fight, for instance.
So you see, there are things that can be done and others that can't be done because they'd not only destroy the balance in end game content, but also because there's a tangible risk that devs will be constrained when it comes to creating new mechanics, because they'd have to take into account whatever gimmick each job has. Reflect damage is just too problematic in this game.
As long as the tank takes damage, it would reflect part of it, not just for auto-attacks. Of course, the reflected damage per hit would be capped depending on your HP so you couldn't take a let's say 1million damage TankBuster during Living Dead and reflects 200k.
Also, you'd have to be alive to reflect the damage and the stance would not reduce damage (or less than Shield Oath), meaning that DRK would be trickier to keep alive since you wouldn't allow it to get too low on HP so that it can't withstand an unmitigated auto-attack.
Sure, it would need tweaks and tests, but I'm sure it would be doable and give something new to tanking.
lol, that outrage when the Gunblade goes to a tank job... ^^
I would be fine when they don't add new jobs at all, but instead reworking all the existing ones. Removing the base classes, split Summoner and Scholar, reworking Machinist, White Mage and Dark Knight, overhaul Warrior, Scholar and the synergy between Dragoon and Bard, so they don't outshine all the other jobs by default...
But as long as they don't make a huge overhaul I see no point why we can't have new tanks and healers, especially when they keep adding DDs while the DD balance is off too.
I have not heard talk about no healers or tanks however for me it is a big hell NO. Should they add more dps i will be like wtf SE, we have enough dps until at least 6.0 or later
I think 5.0 should add a new tank and a new healer. I know I have the unpopular opinion that tanks and healers are just blue and green DPS within the frame of FFXIV, formed through the content I run and the people I run them with. Because of that opinion, I see the roles of the game being "Tank/Healer/Caster/Ranger/Melee" as opposed to "Tank/Healer/DPS", and through this lens, I don't see "There are only 3 tanks and 3 healers while there are 9 dps!" I see "There are 3 tanks 3 healers 3 casters 2 rangers and 4 melee." So I don't necessarily feel the whole "There are so many more dps than tanks!" argument because if I wanted to play a caster, like tank I only have three options to choose from; it just falls under the same red banner that a melee will.
With that in mind, if the cycle they go for is "Tank/Healer/Ranger in odd expansions and Caster/Melee on even expansions," I don't think that's necessarily a bad balance to strike for--at least for the next maybe...two expansions. I don't think this game can handle too many more jobs to be honest.
Not only do I want to see a new tank and healer, but I want to see something new besides the same ol' "tank with big weapon and heavy plate armor" and "healer in robes that stands at the back." But my expectations are glaringly low right now, so I'm expecting more of the same.
Now, the IMPORTANT question: what tank-specific mounts will the gunblade job get??? Warthog? Dhalmel?? Raubahn??? Enquiring minds want to knoooow!
