Final Fantasy: A small history lesson.

From what it looks like to me is that since the merger with Enix, final fantasy games have been medicore, when it was just square soft making them the game were awesome and absolute classics but since Enix came in they have been going downhill fast.

That's because that's around the time that Hironobu Sakaguchi left the company. The Final Fantasy games aren't even in the hands of the original creator anymore. Not sure the dispute that happened but he left and formed a new company called "Mistwalker." Something I found incredibly funny is one of his recent games was named "Last Story" and shares a similar logo and look as the Final Fantasy games. Wanted to try but sadly it's Japanese only.

I think Square-Enix is finally realizing how far the fanbase has fallen since it's hayday, and they're focusing more on quality since simply having Final Fantasy attached to the name isn't enough anymore. I've always been a fanboy of the series but I have to agree that the games have been kind of bleh. Graphics are nice but I really wish they would focus alot more in a storyline that draws you in, a battle engine that is fun, side/hidden quests, expansive world maps, weeks upon weeks of gameplay material, and a leveling system that wasn't yet another rehashing of 10's weird sphere grid system. I don't want to get exp to gain darts to throw at a board and try to hit balloons to gain +2 int, I just want to friggen get exp level up nuff said with the possible rare item to use to boost my stats. (sorry ranting)

Anyways all said I think the company can make a comeback easily, it's just they have to really focus on quality and expect to wait a while before people have trust in the series again.
