The whole point of lockstyle (XI) and the glamour system (XIV) is you don't have to find the best combination. Since in FFXI lockstyled sets don't need to be on your person, and in FFXIV, there's a massive, dedicated space for equipment to be used as glamour, you don't really need to save space.

Combat was REALLY slow paced in the old days and especially in the early levels, and it was easy to type chats to each other when you didn't need to press many buttons and it took like 1-2 minutes to kill a snipper.
That's my favorite type of MMORPG. I enjoy exploring in Vana'diel and taking my time to do stuff in slow progress. No need to rush to the endgame to get bored and quit. That was when most of the social platforms were still new and most of us didn't have one but hey there is a plenty of players still doing like the old days. They help each other, work, tip a WHM for the teleportation, listen to leader's battle plan, etc.. The economy is very healthy even without RMT and bots. In retail, you don't have to trust us anymore since SE already brought you your trusts to play with.

In XIV, you were supposed to have friends you know and love to able to keep enjoying the game. Glam is one of things. We make many screenshots together of doing weird and kinky stuff for fun. That's how things are even though XIV is the game that is very hard for most people to find the right place they want to be in. I have seen several players constantly jumped into different FCs and still felt disappointed. Duty Finder/Party Finder exist for that reason but most of them hate it and beg us to play with them or nothing.

I love a medium progress myself, not too fast or too slow, 1 of the reasons I play retail. Happy gaming!

What I'm trying to get at though is that a lot of ppl think FFXIV has no social interaction and call it a "solo MMO," but that's really far from the truth. There is tons of social activity, it's simply that dungeons and boss fights are not where the social activity takes place, because that's not easy to do. You can't type a chat during a battle without compromising your performance (whereas in FFXI, it isn't hard to manage). Social activity happens in towns and company/personal estate halls. People hold social functions 24 7, people have dance nights, game nights (within a game lol), contests, shops, brothels whatever you can think of, it happens in the game. FFXI is simply much more focused on action so there is less oppertunity to socialize during battle content.

That said, I like the somewhat more upbeat pace that FFXI moved towards into its later years. I think current retail strikes a decent balance between the snails pace of yore and the rapid action of modern MMOs, and is one reason among many that I prefer the current live game to the idea of playing a "classic" server.

Honestly it's not the ingame battles, its the community outside of battles. They rather go afk in a rp club then go do some savage or pvp lol.

That's jsut where you meet people, interact and relax. If you meet the right people, you might indeed do those things. Community interaction is a choice, it doesn't happen unless you seek it out.

I don't participate in any of this stuff. I simply know it exists.
