    I think one of the reasons equipped gear does take up space is the fact that there are monster abilities that will strip you. So in order for you not to lose gear/items when this happens should you have a full inventory, they make all your current belongings count.
    Also, the coding for this is soo old, I doubt they would be able to change it >.<;

    I forgot about that. Yea, it will probably never change. 16 spaces in inventory lost forever
